Words of encouragement for a chicken...
steel replied to RIP Psyclone's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If you must think about it, think about the fact that hundreds of people do it every day (even every hour) and that it is only a few moments of your life. Think about the fact that more people are injured taking a morning shower every year than on roller coasters. -

That's the general consensus right now, yes. And it will be a GCI. -

Yay! Thank you for liking Worlds of Fun. I hope you rode Patriot in the back. If you thought it was intense in the front, you'd love it in the back. I think I end up saying this in every Worlds of Fun thread on this site: Timber Wolf honestly is not that bad. It has been ten times worse. It's running really well this year. I'll admit that the helix is completely pointless, but other than that, it's a perfectly good ride. Boomering is way rougher. EDIT: About the crate - supposedly that sound is a leopard. The map basically just means that the "animal" inside comes from the Ivory Coast. Stay tuned on that. The announcement should be August 16th. -
Worlds of Fun Construction - Prowler

No, I'm saying that since it isn't 100% confirmed yet, we can't be saying that it is, but it is so obvious that this is going to be a GCI that there isn't really a point in arguing for anything else anymore. -

Contradictory? How was I being contradictory? It isn't confirmed because we aren't absolutely, 100%, no-doubt-about-it sure, but we definitely know enough to be fairly certain of what this will be. -

No one is saying it's confirmed (and if you are, leave). But it might as well be, so there really is no point in arguing. -

I'm sure he just means that the announcement isn't too far off (meaning Coaster Mayhem on August 16). -

I don't think that looks bad at all. Makes me feel like I should get out there as soon as possible. -

It would definitely be very advantageous to learn German. French would be helpful, too, to a lesser extent. Maybe even some Italian, too. Especially if you're looking at Intamin or B&M. I'm sure they would be able to get around the language barrier, but you might as well save them the trouble (plus you get to know another language). -
Favorite Photos YOU Have Taken
steel replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes, it's photoshopped. But I don't care. I love it all the same. I mean, seriously, this picture is so BA. (Upon viewing the preview, I see clearly that the hi-res version is miles and miles better - this one has "BAD PHOTOSHOP" written all over it. I assure you, the original doesn't look that way. Still a visual treat, though.) Higher-res: http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/3514/62308046rc6.png I might as well post this one as well. The sun sets behind Patriot. For the record, the ride that followed this photo was freaking awesome. This is Space Shot at Adventureland, by the way. -
I don't know how you can even call Twisted Twins a "dueling coaster." When I was there, the only flyby was the bottom of the drop. There were plenty of other locations, but the timing was way, way off. I don't care what anyone else says, I really enjoyed Thunder Run. The airtime was a ton more powerful than I expected. Are they remodeling this section or something? If so, I find that quite ironic, as that part of the park is the only one that looks good at all. In a perfect world, SFKK would do a massive rehab project spanning five or six years, beautifying the park, getting the staff up to an acceptable level of competance, and kicking out old crap and putting in new stuff that people will actually be excited about. First, trees. If this were an RCT park, I would go completely crazy with trees. It's flat as the day is long, so terrain isn't really much of an option. The remaining choice is a buttload of foliage and some flowers to boot. When I go to a park, I'd rather not feel like I'm walking through a parking lot, and that's what I got with SFKK. It's surrounded by city, so it needs to feel like an escape from all the hustle and bustle. Second, staff. When I was there, it felt like every employee was working in slow motion (which ended up being catastrophic for one Ms. Lassiter later that afternoon). It took a full minute for the Greezed Lightnin' team to check the train one time. It should barely take a minute to complete a whole cycle of guests. Along with that, it seemed like a lot of them didn't know what they were doing. Finally, cuts and expansion. I say, smack an Intamin prefab a la Balder in TT's lot, destroy T2, and retrack the living daylights out of TR. IMO, T2's lot is a prime location for a dark ride of some kind. But none of that will ever happen (God forbid SFKK become some sort of competition). I can dream, though, can't I?

Son of Beast or Beast
steel replied to dragsterfan420's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Like I already said in this thread, Beast wasn't made for airtime. It's ridiculous that people give it so much crap for not having very much. No, it doesn't have much, because it isn't supposed to. Complaining about a lack of airtime on Beast is like complaining about a lack of inversions on Nitro. It's fine if you were expecting there to be a lot of airtime, then you were disappointed because there wasn't, but it is still quite an experience without it, and it really is unfair to bash it for not doing what it shouldn't. I'm not trying to feed anyone an opinion, I'm just saying... -
Worlds of Fun Construction - Prowler
steel replied to Jive's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
At this point in the game, I would be completely amazed if this didn't turn out GCI. EK is done, so the timing is perfect. Renegade was a huge hit and CF has said they want more. The terrain is ideal for a woodie. Worlds of Fun has gone two years without any additions at all. It just fits too well for this to be coincidence. The only other explanation I can think of is that the wood is for Timber Wolf, but I don't think they're in need of too much more wood for that project just now. -
Son of Beast or Beast
steel replied to dragsterfan420's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Okay, I am definitely standing alone on this, but Beast is my favorite woodie ever and it will probably stay that (better than Voyage, too). Nothing in the world, nothing, can ever compare to sitting in the front row of Beast at night. Even if it's not as fast as it used to be, the cool air pounding against your face is well worth the lack of speed. Even in the day, I think people tend to be very unfair to Beast. It's a completely different kind of ride. It wasn't designed to have major forces, it was designed to simulate immense speed, and that is exactly what it does. If that's not your preference, fine, but don't beat it down for not being what it isn't supposed to be. Furthermore, I have ridden Beast in the back row and I had absolutely no problem with it. It's rough, yes, but it's a totally different rough than I have experienced on any other ride. As opposed to the violent shaking that Voyage experiences coming back (which people try to pass off as "violent intensity" - complete BS, IMO), Beast bounces. I can't get enough. Especially in that helix (Omg, don't even get me started on that helix). -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
steel replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Okay, we honestly don't think that non-coaster enthusiasts are all stupid. And if anyone does, he or she can leave this forum, because that is outrageous. In this thread, we make fun of pure stupidity. Not things GP say that only the most knowledgable coaster enthusiast would understand, but things some GP do and say that are completely wrong and that they, as park guests, either should know about or could easily find out about from a park map or other widely available resource. It's not about making fun of all GP. -
It looks really good. Maybe you could have a comment section so that members could also share their opinions about the rides (like TN's database). That way people planning trips to those parks could find out what to expect. Even a "Rate this Ride" function or something like that. But that's my only suggestion. Keep it up.

Yes, "coaster/dark ride" is not an accurate description. If Ripsaw is a dark ride, so is Millennium Force. Same kind of thing. But it's still fun. -
Adventureland (IA) 2008: Adventure Island
steel replied to steel's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^Honestly, Splash Over is fine. All new rides are bound to have problems sometimes. Twenty-seven shut downs isn't all that many. As for the water jets, those are the operators choice. Just because they aren't on doesn't mean they aren't working. BTW, how is flooding for you? Staying dry, I hope. I drive past some of the flooded area on the way to work every day. It's getting dangerously close to the interstate. As much as I share that hope, I don't think it's going to happen. Adventureland is very, very stingy. They don't do anything very expensive. On top of that, it doesn't seem like they plan very far ahead, which makes any kind of expansion fairly unlikely. Probably, all we'll see in the next few years are small additions to the new Adventure Island/Kokomo Kove area. There isnt' too much room left and I can't see them taking out any of the rides they have right now (*maybe* Inverter). What they should do is take out Inverter, Underground, and Dragon. At Inverter, put in a Moser prototype of an S&S Screamin' Swing copy (again, stinginess at work). At Underground, put in GOOD family coaster. At Dragon, put in a small, compact B&M invert (I'd even take a Batman clone). -

It is the epitomy of a family coaster. It's more of a tour of the park than a roller coaster. A little more than half-way through, it goes through part of the log chute and up a second lift. Lots of helicies and small hills. None of it anywhere near the floor. -

There WAS a coaster where Inverter is now. Super Screamer. That's why all the ugly concrete. Splash Over doesn't have all that many problems, and the jets are on whenever it is both warm enough and not too windy. News about Kokomo Kove! Opening has been delayed to early July because all of this rain is making it impossible to do any work. The structure looks about done now, though. It's just a matter of its surroundings. I snapped this with my cell phone on the way to work a few days ago. -

Cedar Fair didn't own Camp Snoopy when it added Timberland Twister. They were long gone at that point. Camp Snoopy just had the rights to Peanuts then. I agree with Vffreak07. Our Corkscrew is better than CP's. Why did you skip Como Town? You totally missed out on the best drop tower in the state! Glad you enjoyed the parks you did visit though. Stop at Adventureland some time. -

First of all, I know what a traumatic experience is, you don't have to define it for me. I will never say that she isn't allowed to be upset at SFKK or even SF in general. I am not very happy with them either. What I said is that she does not understand that SFKK's policies do not reflect those of other amusement parks and that this industry in general is one of the safest in the world.
