Expedition Geforce cable snaps...
Vekoma Fan Boy replied to hobbit's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No, but according to the reports, the catch car on the end of the cable (which does not have anti rollbacks) fell down the lift and into the station after the cable snap. I don't know if it would have been extremely dangerous should there have been a train in the station, but I can't imagine it being the safest situation either. -
Expedition Geforce cable snaps...

poo-poo breaks. These are probably 1-2" cables at best. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I've not had a chance to see one on my own.) I DON'T see why its so amazing. Its fatigue. The ride is 1:15 long, so assuming 1 minute to load and check the train (unrealistic, but a best case scenario) and a 10-10 operating schedule, the ride cycles 320 times a day. The cable is bent 4 times per cycle (twice going up, twice going down), so that means it is bent 1,280 times per day. And assuming a fully loaded train weighs 10,000lbs, (1000lbs for each car, plus 3000 for 28 riders) that means the cable lifts a total of 3.2 MILLION pounds every day on a best case operating scenario. When you think about these things, its not very surprising. I'm more concerned for the catch car itself than anything if it actually fell down the lift and into the station. Then why don't we see this happening with elevators? They have to make repeated trips hauling heavy loads sometimes 24/7 & yet we rarely hear of an elevator cable snapping in an office or apartment building somewhere. Because elevators have an FOS (Factor of Safety) of at least 12. That being, they have 6 cables, each one capable of holding double the weight of a fully loaded elevator. (And therefore has an FOS of 2) Not to mention they also have automatic brakes that activate once the elevator reaches speeds of over about 5-8mph. If there was no such thing as an anti rollback device I'm quite sure that Intamin elevator cables would also have a higher factor of safety. -

WOO! Yay for transfer tracks! Do I see elevator lifts coming in a future release of NL 2.X? (Since he said vertical switch tracks.) -

^Raise the supports in the last picture upwards. The "top" rail on the turn is not supported and the ties between the rails would snap and send the train into the supports. Don't get me wrong though, the ride looks fantastic! I just thought I'd give you a little bit of advice on that last picture. -
I'm all for this. Honestly the only thing more dangerous than texting while driving is texting while driving with ME in the car. I will raise all f*cking hell if you do that. (I've even punched friends once we've gotten out of the car for doing it.) Seriously. Pass it to a passenger and have them read it to you and type your response for you. ITS THAT FREAKING SIMPLE!!! As for things such as GPS systems, makeup and eating, the makeup can go. I have no problem with a GPS system guiding you so long as you have a shred of common sense. And again, so long as you have a little itty bitty tiny amount of common sense, eating a chicken sandwich while driving shouldn't be a very big distraction. While I agree on the issue of the supports after the lift, I don't see any reason to do away with the loop. Corkscrews are used in real life and a corkscrew is just a loop that has been stretched sideways. As long as it isn't a terribly high-g maneuver like a pretzel loop typically is it should be quite fine. Keep up the good work though; I LOVE the scenery under the lift! Now that I think about it, maybe I'm gonna go pull out my RCT3 disks...

RCT2 Patches
Vekoma Fan Boy replied to JEAPUgrad's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Maybe wait until windows 7 comes out and run XP as a virtual machine? Joking aside, maybe you should just log onto the web page from a computer with XP on it (friend, family member, school, etc) and download the patches to a CD-RW or Flash Drive. (I'd recommend the latter. 20$ for 8 Gigs of space in a package about 1/10th the size of a CD) and transfer the files onto your computer. -
A hard drive search doesn't work like a Google search. You need to do a search for all (or part) of the file name. Do a search for a specific track you took a screen shot of. Like, say you took a snap of a coaster who's file name is Wooden1.nltrack, the screen shot .bmp file would be saved as Wooden1[long string of numbers]000x, where x is the number of the screen shot. (Ie. the first screen shot taken of a file is 0000, second is 0001, third is 0002, etc) So try doing a hard drive search for [Track File Name] 0000.bmp

^It does. You have to put dummy LIMs on (as in they don't actually do anything) and turn off the brake display. This will show the LIMs, (which, while they do not look like brakes, are stationary) but maintain the deceleration properties of the normal brakes (IE. They don't get messed up by E-Stopping). However, I prefer to simply turn off brake display altogether and use supports to simulate the track mounted brake fins used on most Intamins today. -
The infamous Rollback!
Vekoma Fan Boy replied to themeparkman25's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I THINK he meant after a roll back the ride wont allow the train to be dispatched again until the "problem" is rectified. Or something like that. -
^I know. Its just that some people tend to get angry when they are corrected. Though honestly, I would split the Origin/Start node definition. Like this: Origin: The exact center of the NL building area. This point's coordinates are 0,0,0, and it is marked by a gray four-pointed star. This is also where the start node is placed by default. (See: 'Start Node' for more information on it) Start Node: The first node on a No Limits track. Denoted by a standard blue node with a purple cone surrounding it. This is by default placed on the origin, (See: 'Origin') but can be moved by clicking the node and dragging it, or changing the coordinates in the Vertex Panel. Typically, the track is built after the start node, by placing more track nodes with the "build after" button, (the dashed line followed by a red circle in the top menu) however, one can build "before" the start node by using the "build before" button. (Immediately to the right of the build after button. Has a picture of a red circle followed by a dashed line with an arrow on the end.) The node that is defined as the start node can also be changed by selecting the node, and going to Edit -> Set First, or using the Key Command Shift+F. Also, a few more definitions: Control Handles: These are used to shape the track. They only appear when the node they are attached to is highlighted. Changing the positions of these change the shape of the track. They can be moved by clicking and dragging them, or bringing up the Vertex Panel and changing the coordinates of them and, and changing the values in the CP1 and/or CP2 boxes and pressing 'Apply CP1' and 'Apply CP2' Vertex Panel: The properties panel for a vertex (node). Can be opened by double clicking a node, or by highlighting a single node and pressing the 'N' key on the keyboard. Properties that can be changed in the Vertex Panel are the coordinates of the node and its control handles, the roll of the node, continuous and relative rolling, and handle lock.

Vekoma Fan Boy replied to MontuWillOwnYou's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I have to be honest, I love how everyone is banding together to help make TPR a much more NL-savvy place since Coastersims and NLDC have gone down. I think if we do well enough we could get a large influx of some of the more advanced NL users from places like Coastersims. And hopefully good modding would help avoid some of the ruder ride comments/reviews that have been seen on CS. I think this would be a good idea. A nice way to share ride concepts that someone may find interesting but don't have the time to bring to fruition themselves. -
I would just like to point out that the origin is actually 0,0,0 on the grid (just like when you were graphing equations in school. 0,0(,0) was the origin) and is denoted by a gray 4-Pointed star. The purple arrow would be the start node. Not by any means trying to be an ass by correcting people. I just want to make sure information is as correct as possible.

Maybe this would be a good place to state general G-Force limits that should be used for certain types of coasters. (I.e, For an Intamin coaster you generally won't see G's go above +x.x/-x.x Vertical G's, +/-x.x Lateral G's, +/-x.x Accelerational G's, etc.) Not exactly a dictionary term, but I think that would be a good idea if we are trying to expand upon the help section that comes with NL.

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
Vekoma Fan Boy replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Looks pretty cool. But some of those transitions look BRUTAL. I'd hope what they mean by "Overhead lap bar/not an OTSR" they mean they adopted the rubber vest and overhead lap bar design a la Vekoma's new restraints. Though, it doesn't look very forceful. It seems more the focus is going really fast really close to the ground and airtime, which isn't bad. But I like a bit of forcefulness on my rides. My bet would be that they'll build out from each side and meet in the middle. They built Stonecutters bridge (a Cable Stayed Bridge with a 3,340 foot span) that way. As for the 'minimalist' support structure, if you look, the actual members used in the supports are a good bit bigger than the members used for MF's towers. It all depends on the factor of safety the supports are built with, the strength of the members and the way the load is transferred throughout the structure. Actually, to transform a section of track, you press Ctrl + "number" (1 for standard track, 2 for station track, 3 for transport section, 4 for lift, and 5 for brake section) to select the type of track, and then 'X' to actually change the section. You probably knew that, just wanted to make sure the newer users did too.

Smoking: Park policies: Your opinion.
Vekoma Fan Boy replied to FlyingScooter's topic in Random, Random, Random
I'm not a smoker, but having been raised in a smoking household, it doesn't bother me in the least when someone around me smokes. But I still feel that people should use the designated areas and just put up with it if you're in line and you want to light up. Just be happy that you are actually allowed to smoke in the park period. But as for the people who say that smoking should be illegal, that's just retarded. I don't feel that the government should have the power to control what WE put in OUR bodies. It may not seem like it, but saying that smoking should be banned because it is unhealthy and not saying fast food should be banned is a (quite hypocritical) double standard. (Don't get me wrong, I love me some BK!) I'd say its almost as bad as the sex laws that were in place in the first half of the century. Now THOSE... Those were just flat out dumb.
