  1. I think a B&M hyper would make a huge difference at Cedar Point. Granted there is Magnum and Millennium, but the B&M coasters are completely different experiences.
  2. ^Yeah, especially since there was pretty much no build up at all. It was just "hey we'll announce something next week"
  3. It's a 457ft launched inverted wooden aquatrax that rains down chocolate chip cookies at the block brake! Snoopy's been hinting at this for two years already, duh! ^They did say on their fb that it would be tomorrow though so we'll see. It seems like it will most likely be about something that isn't a ride...
  4. I suppose it was just Vekoma being Vekoma...but yes, there is a catchcar that is launched by LSMs. It's basically just unnecessary moving parts.
  5. I'm now incredibly excited about this! I hope they do something different from their Hyper layouts. While B&M hypers are reliable and have good airtime, I always feel like they leave something to be desired...
  6. After some great new experiences today, I must say The Voyage is very high up on the list. There are so many points of airtime it's ridiculous! However, El Toro is a bit better, not gonna lie. Can't beat Intamin
  7. Well, Intamin did design the ride... From the company who brought you the Intamin cable...
  8. ^^^I think you need to realize that ride ops are people, too, and being secluded at a theme park for an entire summer is quite draining. By the end of the season most of us are just tired and want some sleep. Another big problem here is that a lot of people like to just cause unnecessary drama and that can really bring ride ops down. Usually if guests move quickly and have a good attitude, the ride ops will reciprocate. The one thing that would cheer me up is when a guest would say thank you after I check their seat. It's an unexpected pleasantry and it really helps lift our spirits. Having worked at Raptor, I know all about being disgusted with guests, and that's simply because nobody listens. If people would actually just move, ride ops would be happy all day long. There are some days when we simply lose our minds, too, and that's when you get things like people singing over spiels or talking in crazy accents. It's just how we get by.
  9. Well that may be the way Xcelerator is, but Dragster is not the same way. High pressure errors are much more common and are a simple reset and go.
  10. Is it just me or does that drawing look kind of like a condensed Expedition GeForce?
  11. The heat related problem you are referring to has nothing to do with weather, though. I believe the original intent of the question was due to extreme weather conditions, in which case it makes no difference, since TTD's hydraulic room is contained and temperature regulated for that very purpose. And yes, this does happen. The ride will give a trouble light for high pressure and will need to be reset. Also, Dragster was struck by lightning several times during the last giant storm, causing said downtime.
  12. They own a decent amount of land in the area along 1st street as well in the "Big Island" area, including land that is occupied with residential houses and a couple warehouses. The idea of building a parking garage on the mainland has been tossed around for a long time. I don't see that happening but what I could see being done is something that no one ever mentions. Build a parking LOT off point (crazy I know). They own enough land that they could build a lot which is obviously a lot cheaper than a garage. The lot would not have to be as big as the current one either since they could still have bus, handicap and even "preferred" parking still on point. Again, not something I see them doing but it is more plausible then a garage being built. The thing is that CP uses all the land they own. Castaway Bay, Dairy Queen, Employee Housing...they're not just going to demolish it all. I honestly don't see a problem with building a garage on point...it;s not like there's not enough space, the parking lot is the size of half the park. Struck by lightning during the last storm. These "types of rides" have trouble with the high heat. That lesson wasn't learned at the first install Xcelerator at Knotts. Not really true, actually. The only ride that really has significant trouble with heat is Space Spiral because the cabin isn't air conditioned (HAH). Heat is actually perfect for coasters to run well. There's no reason the ride would go down due to something caused by heat. It's not like the track is melting or something, and most parts are designed to withstand high heat in the first place. There isn't a time a roller coaster would be called down for simply heat, and I honestly can't think of a single time Dragster has gone down mechanical for something caused by heat.
  13. Skyride has actually been down mechanical for several days....
  14. ^Yeah, the tower sways enough as it is. This is not true. While it may have been advertised as such, the ride was most likely programmed differently when it was built. The highest possible RPH is ~920 and that's with a superhuman crew and guests who actually pay attention. Twister averages 750-800 RPH daily. You'd be surprised how certain rides are supposed to be capacity monsters and yet they have low numbers. Some rides are simply impossible to operate up to capacity...Maverick's advertised at 1200, yet they average around 850. And trust me, this is not the fault of the crews, it is purely stupid guests. My point, I suppose, is that I do not see any type of shuttle coaster being put in for "capacity purposes." Twister's cycle is too short anyway, in my opinion. It was just a way of getting a gimmick, the world's tallest and fastest invert. As it is, it's still the only record holding coaster at the park... If they're going to go for capacity, they'll probably put in a full circuit B&M coaster, but I don't see a crew actually being able to keep up with the demands, so no matter what, capacity will suffer in some way. The only ride who's capacity can somewhat be kept up with is Magnum, and that's just because it's 36 and 2 per row, and the platform is big enough that the bins aren't too difficult to access. Even still, they'll average 1300 RPH compared to the theoretical 2000.
  15. This thread got really entertaining Just my opinion, but I doubt they will take out Disaster Transport. It is one of only 2 coasters with a 46" height requirement, plus if Cedar Point did take out a roller coaster, it would be against the goal of having the most coasters.
  16. ^^I kind of agree. I don't think CP has ever been too big on inversions. They're just not very impressive and they don't get people interested. To this day the top 3 rides are always more popular than Mantis or Raptor (granted Maverick has inversions but the ride isn't centered around going upside down). I think the only thing I see coming in the future would be something like a B&M dive/flyer coaster or a woodie. CP is lagging a lot on the wood side of things, after all...plus there is plenty of room if less popular rides are taken out. Not to mention the whole lagoon by Dragster. I'm excited to see if some markers start appearing!
  17. It doesn't necessarily have to do with the polyurethane on the wheels, but it is pretty much all about the wheels. It is basically the temperature of the bearings within the wheel and all the grease that is in there to keep them slick. When grease is heated it is a lot more fluid, whereas when it is colder, it is more like molasses. Not really to that consistency, but you get my point. Of course, if you want to bring wind resistance into account, it would probably change the speed a very slight amount simply because cold air is more dense than hot air. That's not usually the biggest factor, though. Another general theory is that wood coasters run faster after it rains. That's pretty much true because when flat metal track is wet, the wheels basically hydroplane (they are lifted off the track by water), whereas on steel coasters (well newer ones...) the wheels are firmly fixed to the track so there's no way they could be lifted up by water.
  18. The problem is that using seats that are fixed on that axis would cause a lot more stress on the structure because of winds and it would not last as long or even be unstable. There are pneumatic cylinders that do their best to hold them in place, but that's pretty much the best they can do about it.
  19. This is quite untrue. Wind is the factor in why the seats swing unevenly when loaded unevenly. It wouldn't make a difference if there was zero wind because they would only swing outward, whereas the wind manipulates the empty seats much more than loaded seats. CP's solution now is to go down in high winds (35mph+) and to simply load all seats in low winds, simply like deadweight at Dragster. p.s. the markers (I have heard) have been spotted in the employee parking section (space spiral).
  20. There's so much random discussion about Windseeker and yet no one has really brought up the mysterious appearance of random markers in the parking lot...hmmm
  21. I must say, rides don't really scare me anymore, but Windseeker kind of freaked me out a bit. I was actually starting to get a bit nervous as we were getting closer to the top. Just seeing the tower spiraling around as we were passing twister's towers and realized we weren't even near the top yet...the music that travels with you is really epic too...
  22. Sorry these are a little old, but working at cp=no internet access... These are the purple train getting added to the track (still not put together/waiting on parts) and the box the catchcar was sent to Europe in...enjoy. Front Over the fence! Not many people are aware the catchcar is nearly 25 feet long!
  23. I have a few things to add to that wonderful TR... Windseeker's pretty much been moving up and down for the past week or so now. I hear actual cycle testing will begin sometime next week. Maintenance has just been going up and down with final touches to the tower. Ocean Motion is finally up and running. MaXair, I hear, will probably be another week or two. Dragster's catchcar was sent to Intamin this winter and was serviced. There was a huge box out on the midway. I'll try to upload pictures as soon as I can. Millennium's paint job is actually scheduled to be a 3 year project, so don't expect it to be finished next year. Not to mention the new catchcar loos pretty awesome! Dragster and Millennium both got a few new road wheels which are made of Aluminum instead of steel, and they look very sexy! Everything else is going smoothly. It should be a good summer!
