  1. What kind of supports only have spots for bolts on one side?
  2. What ride has beams that only have holes for bolts on one side (assuming they are on the other side of the beams pictured)?
  3. So...uhh...Penn State Happened...
  4. The first drop was re-tracked with I-beams, making it faster/smoother than the rest of the ride with traditional wood coaster trap.
  5. Magic actually has some really talented mechanics/electricians (most of which who actually go on to USH or Disney as quick as they can)...it's not their fault they have poor management above them.
  6. I'm excited for USC/Syracuse in NYC...gives me an excuse to visit NYC for the first time!
  7. I think it has been well established that the new ownership/management team wants SFMM back to the "old" SFMM: crappy operations, but a huge cash cow.
  8. Very cool report! I'm jealous...I want to blow stuff up!
  9. Love the old school hotel/motel theme. Like 1960's Vegas/Miami.
  10. ^Single rider lines are there to fill empty seats. Sometimes it is just one, sometimes it can be more.
  11. It's up to the park to better enforce the policies if it is becoming an issue. Due to ADA laws (and to a lesser extent, doctor/patient privacy), it is almost impossible to deny someone a pass if they say certain things. However, there is wiggle room as to what defines "reasonable accommodation." For example, USH limits the guest assistance pass to a maximum of 4 people per pass. As I said above, this first month of opening is essentially a soft open period for them. I give the park the benefit of the doubt that they learning and tweaking.
  12. Here's the sad reality: coaster dorks don't make for exciting TV. Robb would be one of the few exceptions to the rule, so it's a bummer they didn't use him more. However, in general, all those over the top "GP experts" make for better TV to a wider audience, since they really sell how "scary" and "intense" the rides are.
  13. It's the highest capacity ride in the park with all 6 trains: anything to get people to actually go ride the ride again is good for the park!
  14. ^It's always so full they have to close it off and on throughout the day...but when I went, I still saw a bunch of empty seats. Probably has to do with the fact I only saw 1 grouper doing all 4 cars!
  15. The problem is that the "average" guest does not arrive early. There's so many variables involved (traffic, waking kids up early, bathroom breaks, etc. etc.), that it is not always even their fault. As I said a few posts up, the time right now essentially amounts to a soft open. Disney needs some time and actual crowd flow data to better manage the guest flow in the area, as they were clearly not ready for what has hit them. But I am sure as each day goes by, tweaks are made to improve things. Side note to crowd control: my personal peeve is the green tape on the ground that passes as overflow queue.
  16. That's why they invented the concept of "return time" passes. Disney needs to switch to that system, since I am sure the number of people requesting passes has gone WAY up. In the case of Radiator Springs Racer, having such a long line and fast pass sell out so quick actually defeats the purpose of fast pass: the majority of guests are stuck spending more time in line and less time elsewhere spending money.
  17. Still very much alive and awesome on the West Coast!
  18. Without further ado...The Shark Tank! To be honest, the building itself is far from impressive. I feel the same way about as I do the Pond: arenas built in the mid-90's feel very outdated amenities wise, but still provide a nice atmosphere (can definitely tell the building is built to be rocking for hockey). Kind of crazy to think that a building that is only 20 years old is considered outdated, but that's the world we live in now for sports venues. On the bright side, Arena Football is still incredibly fun to watch. Even if the production is WAY over the top. Thanks to Rick for being an awesome host for the weekend! Welcome to the San Jose Convention Center...err, I mean the Shark Tank/HP Pavilion The entrance to club level is right off the concourse. It's not really a club level, it's just the lower half of the lower bowl. Very mid-90's design. The Councourse I did like this use of the space: the double deck concession areas. I also liked this use of space: Round Table+Gordon Biersch!!! They at least kept the scoreboard up to modern standards. The seats are still very much stuck in the 90's. Can't imagine that faux fabric material is fun to clean. The view from the top: the best part of arena's built in the 90s. Not really a bad seat! Oh, hey, look at that! There's a team that calls the Shark Tank home that has won some championships! Around the walls on the concourse is the San Jose sports hall of fame. Clearly someone knew what Brian Boitano would do if he wasn't included.
  19. It's probably because they are empty vehicles.
  20. Brand new rides have downtime? That has never happened in the history of this industry.
  21. I am going to guess those numbers come from either the bottom of the drop or loop. I am also going to guess some of the rides were picked based on production logistics. But who cares? New coaster shows! That give TPR Press! That's awesome in my book!
  22. You'd expect the same treatment if you had a Fastpass. The only reason you're saying this is because you haven't had a Fastpass. If you did, I HIGHLY doubt you'd say "man this Fastpass line is moving too fast." Why? It's not like Fastpass is an upcharge product. It appears like they can hold Fastpass for a bit before the line fills up. I think the problem is that the time period right now is essentially a soft open, since they only had one week of CM previews before jumping into the grand opening. It takes time to figure out how things operate with guests before you really start to figure out the best practices.
  23. Today the ride had its 1,000,000th rider come through. The park's VP of operations greeted the guest and they were given a gift bag, energon, and a special photo op with Optimus Prime & Bumblebee together at the exit!
  24. I'd be OK with a blown-up, high budget version of Super Hero Island!
  25. I'm not sure if you ever saw the previous president - Jay Thomas interact with his guests. He always had a smile on his face and always said hello. More often than not, it was a lot more than just hello. He liked the G.P. IMO the same cannot be said about Bonnie. I do miss Jay not being there. Here's the thing...While I most definitely agree a park president should be out and about engaging employees and guests...they are responsible for the business operation of the entire park. It's a lot easier said than done for someone running a park as big as SFMM to just spend a day out in the park engaging guests. They have to be behind the scenes a lot of the time, and when in the park they are usually there for a specific purpose and short on time. Jay Thomas was great to guests, but look what happened to the business. The family friendly thing was a total bust (unfortunately).
