  1. Aside from the walk being so long to get to the park, MGM Grand Adventures was great. My first trip to Vegas was with my grandparents as a kid, so it was nice to actually have something exciting for me back then! I also remember years later, after Signature towers had been built, going back to see the remnants of the park. The bumper car building housed their limo fleet and the Haunted Mine show building was mechanics work area for the fleet. Half of the drained lagoon and the facades of those buildings remained too. Now they are gone as well for Topgolf.
  2. If it happens, the art for the stadium looks real cool. And they'd redevelop the site of the coliseum, keeping the baseball diamond as a public park while re-purposing Oracle Arena into a concert only venue (like the Forum in LA). Where they get the cash for that and overcome the crappy infrastructure (bad location for traffic & BART station about a mile away) of the Howard Terminal site I do not know... I hope this is all not just a ploy to say "see, we tried" and ship the team off to a city desperate for a team like Montreal. There's even rumors of a private company buying the Rio in Vegas for an MLB stadium...
  3. Still alive and well in 2018: https://jalopnik.com/formula-es-mahindra-racing-team-is-actually-naming-one-1831111271
  4. Gift cards are not as simple as "I took your money up front, I hope I never have to give it back." While they receive the cash flow up front, it stays on the books as a liability until it's actually redeemed. Eventually a store has to give the value of the gift card back in product. This is good for two things: 1. It's good publicity and a nice goodwill gesture that really costs the park nothing. 2. Parks make their real money inside. Food, drink, games, parking, souvenirs, premium skip the line products, etc. Walking away with just someone's $50 (or whatever six flags charges) is probably a net loss, because I would guess someone buying just a 1 day ticket is way more likely to spend additional money in the park than a passholder would...
  5. Welcome to the Oakland-alameda sports complex. The soon to be former home of the raiders, warriors, and probably A’s. It’s not as terrible as it’s reputation, but it’s defintiely not good either. But pack lots in They also have to get creative with premium spaces like this dugout suite ...and even a “pub” See, pub. Authentic I’m sure. They did manage to get onboard with the “social space” craze with the “treehouse” patio and bar area Concourses are cramped My view was...not bad So good, In fact, to get there you share the same stairs as the visiting players to get to the field. Stadium is multi purpose, so no direct access to the dressing rooms from dugouts See, home of the a’s and raiders. Food and two drinks included! But it was definitely not gourmet like you expect from home plate club product “Mount Davis” was added to get the raiders back from Los Angeles. It’s now covered for both raiders and a’s due to low attendance. The city will be paying the debt on it still after they leave.. ....And the warriors! Which also has food trucks as a “tailgate” zone The treehouse was the newest area in the stadium. Well done. There is a courtyard between the two venues celebrating championships and legendary players And these patios The club level concourse. Really the main reason all teams bailing on this stadium. Millions being left on the table from no true premium options. ...and bonus points for roundtable... The club bar/restaurant area.
  6. summary of the last 5 pages: Every ride is different because there are so many variables unique to each ride.
  7. If all that stuff is actually built, this will make being loyal to Delta even better!
  8. *Cue up the debate on whether it is a credit or not* Since it is carnival, how long before a passenger is stuck on it for hours? Seriously though, this is a good ride system for a cruise ship.
  9. Every state that has laws on the books regarding amusement rides essentially boil down to: follow your SOP's. So technically the "state law" thing is true, so long as the park has their policy in the SOP...
  10. To be fair, every ride, park, and chain will all have somewhat unique operating practices. I remember being in line for Mantis when it shut down in the rain and then wouldn't re-open until after they completed the block check again. That is something we most definitely did not do at SFMM with RRv. None of us truly know, so we're all assuming at this point.
  11. I've never seen an operating manual from a manufacturer not have some sort of information on weather. At the very least, they all mention "In case you couldn't figure this out on your own, rides are giant lightning rods." That being said, I have not seen a B&M one, so can't speak to that specifically. However, it is not far fetched to assume cold weather plays a role in the operation of a ride, given that there are so many variables. It not surprise me at all if Cedar Fair had their own internal policy based on their past experiences with rides, which once they codify it into their own SOP, counts the same as the manufacturer SOP for legal purposes.
  12. Aside from the more recently updated Tiger section, the rest of the animal enclosures were pretty depressing. I'm sure Six Flags takes good care of the animals, but the enclosures themselves felt like the epitome of why people complain about zoo's. They appeared small and not even close to a natural habitat.
  13. If it wasn't directly on the way from LA, I don't think anyone would bother stopping in.
  14. How many of those are actually left?
  15. It's sad. I feel like this is the start to their slow downfall into idiocracy like the rest of the world. I remember watching Europe fall into our terrible patterns and now to see this happening there also...it hurts a little. Super sad. Just imagine the outrage here if disney blocked off that stupid purple wall.
  16. I vote for as simple as possible. I've been on so many rides at this point it's tedious for me to remember anything besides my top 25ish rides and actually care.
  17. The cost of water is nominal since it is continually recycled although some does has to be continually added. Maybe in Georgia (which appears to be your area of expertise) but I can assure you that it is NOT nominal in many places in this country. Don't forget the cost of pumping/filtering/maintaining that water once it is in the reservoir. It isn't cheap.
  18. Stateline was a major draw for Californians before Indian casinos became a thing. They've oddly done a very good job reinventing themselves catering to the latino market since then.
  19. The golf course is nice if you are a golfer....otherwise you are missing absolutely nothing.
  20. I always loved the fact that Oriental Land Co never spares any expense when it comes to these parks. This looks incredible. Love that Disney is also giving more "peaks behind the curtain" now too.
  21. I used uber from where SMU is to Jerryworld when we went for USC vs Alabama. There is a dropoff lane. There isn't anywhere to wait for pick up though, but the driver had no problem finding us.
  22. Agreed! I hope the event keeps growing from being so successful!
  23. Goldstar had better deals for haunt than the pass discount....
  24. I cringe at the thought of SFMM operating a Raptor track ride.
  25. Yes. His company built miniature trains and he built this ride himself since at the time Knott's was essentially a carnival. Vendors rented space from Knott's.
