To clarify my point: When Indy opened, it was truly groundbreaking for what could be done on a ride. As was Jurassic Park at USH, Tower of Terror @ Disney Studios, Test Track @ EPCOT, and so on. But now that we've seen it all AND have all sorts of new audio/lighting/pneumatic/control/design/etc. technologies that has allowed designers to improve upon those ride systems...it takes a whole heck of a lot more to impress us. Radiator Springs Racer is certainly a solid E-ticket attraction that is sure to make Disney a ton of money. However, it doesn't really take anything to the next level. It just takes a lot of proven concepts and does them really well.

Kentucky Kingdom (SFKK, KK) Discussion Thread

^It would probably pass $30 million in gross revenue, but a $30 million profit would be highly unlikely. -
Mississippi State is a perfect example of how the SEC has gamed the BCS: the middle of the pack SEC teams are always highly inflated in the rankings based on their record beating up on horrible teams, so that way when the good teams in the conference play them it is a quality win.

I don't think the fair board wants anything to do with the theme park/water park business anymore. The last few news articles that have been posted make it very clear what their true agenda is. I'm sure if someone looked into it, you would find donations from a hopeful casino developer to people involved with this process. I'm also sure just a few months after Ed Hart's proposal is rejected again, a deal with a casino developer will be announced... To be fair, I also think Ed Hart has ulterior motives. Something doesn't seem right about his persistence to reopen the park given how horrible his landlords (the fair board) are. -
Capital budgets and Operating budgets are two entirely different things. Speak to just about anyone who has worked at SFMM and they will tell you that SFMM most definitely does not put enough into its operating budget. They don't pay as well as other parks and they certainly don't provide as many resources to their employees as the other parks. There is a reason so many talented people (especially in the maintenance department) leave for other theme parks the first opportunity they get. But on the flip side, that's not what their business model is. The crappy operations bother us, but the majority of their clientele just go "OMGz! Coasters! Yay!" and they still make money.

Universal Studios Singapore Discussion Thread

^I don't blame anyone for complaining. 2.5 hours (or 3 or 4 hours for that matter) essentially means that unless you are in the park at opening, seeing everything is VERY unlikely. Obviously the park realized this is an issue because they extended park hours. The street zones look incredible! Kudos to the team in Singapore for getting this event off the ground so quick! -
There's about a 20,000sqft difference in building space between Hollywood and Orlando's versions of Mummy. Plus Orlando's is a taller building as well. Would have been impossible to clone the two rides. Plus, the 48" inch height requirement is a killer when the park only has so many rides to begin with and the target audience is families. I don't see any big thrill rides in USH's future...

I think he's trying to say the Giants suck. (Sorry, as a Dodger fan I can't give them any credit)

Mississippi State's best win so far is Tennessee. That's all you need to know about why they are unbeaten.

I'm a prospector. I live and die by Bowman Chrome and Bowman Draft Picks and Prospects. It's been a good few years. Too bad all the money goes to bills.

^Aside from fireworks and golf, what else is there to do in South Carolina? BCS computer logic: USC wins by 44 vs a crappy team, and drops 1 spot to #16. Oklahoma wins by 40 vs a crappy Kansas team and moves up 2 spots to #8. Georgia wins by 5 vs a crappy Kentucky team and moves up 4 spots to #13 West Virginia gets crushed by 41pts at home by a top 5 team and drops only 3 spots to #15. South Car gets crushed by 33 pts on the road by a top 5 team and drops 3 spots to #10. Texas Tech wins on the road at #23 TCU and drops 2 spots from #7 to #9. The playoff system can't get here soon enough.

^That looks AMAZING. I have to try that at home!

The flic-flac looks like a fun flat---too bad HUSS doesn't make them anymore. -
^^Oddly enough, it seems history may have come close to repeating itself. S&S has new owners in Sansei and some investment group I've never heard of (Larsen MacColl Partners LP). Luckily this doesn't appear to be ending in bankruptcy, but I have to wonder what role Ring Racer played in this?

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

^^My uneducated guess (never been to Holiday World) would be that they want to spread out the crowds on the waterpark side.
