What's your favorite Flat ride?
Jew replied to FlyingScooter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There is only one that is considered stationary and it is the one at Trimpers in Ocean City, MD. I love that it is so close to me and it it is definitely one of the best zippers I have ever rode. As for the door flying open.... I have had one open while I was riding. Luckily it was in lift mode and not in full operation. When the door opened, what did you do?... Did you fall out, or were you low enough to jump out yourself? Also with the quote above about a park model, I agree on that. It's surprising why chance hasn't made a modernized Version of the ride that could be good for parks as well as traveling midways, and bigger/better than the original, the only recent update I heard about for the zipper was about 10-13 years ago, when they made safer, longer lasting and slightly re designed cages. Considering how popular the ride is, I'm shocked they haven't decided to try a modern overhaul (not just new cages) like what they did with their transmit, turning it into the whip rout. Anyone else agree? There's a few Zippers in Europe, but for the most part you are correct that they were a North American thing. As for why Chance stopped making them? My guess is that so many shows already own and still operate them (and you can get a used one for 75-100K), there wasn't any money left to be made in them besides selling parts. I do agree that a supersized version would be pretty cool though! -
Despite the Kings best efforts (or should I say, lack-there-of when they kept turning it over in the 2nd OT), an original 6 final is now set.

Those definitely have the most intense "freefall feeling. Too bad they are not higher capacity. -
I don't think it is a big deal. You'll only get teased if you are a hardcore nerd about it. In fact, I met Robb & Elissa as a teen, which turned out real well as they are awesome friends and exposed me to the rest of the world outside of Southern California!

Haunt does 10,000 people on a slow night and somewhere between 20-25k on the weekends. -

^That's a great suggestion, but this thread is specifically for places to go that are nearby parks. -

^^The one we saw on the Oktoberfest trip (I forget which park) had kids making it flip 20+ times...I think it is just one of those things you have to figure out on your own (I doubt the park wants to encourage excessive flipping). -
^The ghost of Bud Hulburt built the ride? I think you mean Garner Holt and the Knott's creative team. Knott's when it is busy is pretty unbearable for exactly that reason. Disney at least has insanely high capacity rides like Pirates and Mansion that swallow people and help balance out the crowds. Knott's? Not so much. GhostRider and Silver Bullet probably do 900-1200pph and those are their highest capacity rides...

I know you Nor Cal folks are just giddy to have a nice coaster again, but did anyone actually read the screamscape note? Cedar Fair agreed to this. So really it sounds like Cedar Fair was the one who screwed up in either ignoring the settlement or under-estimating the amount of noise the ride would create. And as ridiculous as it is to complain about noise when they chose to develop the property next to a theme park...they have every right to protect their business interests and enforce the agreement. The same way Cedar Fair initially opposed the stadium. Also, do we know for sure that there wasn't any agreements in place prior to this settlement, from when the offices were first built? -

The entire Parks & Resorts division has their headquarters in Orlando. Not just creative! So yeah, USH is definitely not the "flagship."
