Romon World to open in China
Jew replied to _koppen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
At least the Chinese are copying good parks! -
^I think the fact there is so few has more to do with how fast the industry evolved more so than their popularity. TOGO introduced the first stand up trains in 1982 and B&M built Georgia Scorcher in 1999. That's a pretty good run for a roller coaster concept. But preferences shifted from gimmicks (floorless, stand up, inversions) to taller, faster, and steeper, to the concept just faded away.

The day before X-mas and weekend after are always INSANE at every park that is open. Everyone is with their visiting families (or visiting themselves) and needs something to do after the actual holiday celebrations. Probably felt extra crowded with those rides down (those people who would normally be in line for X2, Tidal Wave, Jet Stream, Roaring Rapids, or up in the Sky Tower have to go somewhere!).

Made the switch from Android to the iPhone 5S. Doubt I will ever switch back!

SeaWorld Orlando (SWO) Discussion Thread

The Eagles gave Michael Vick another huge contract after he willfully hosted dog fights at his house. America doesn't really care about animals to the point where they will be given the same rights as humans. The majority of people simply care about what is the hot item at the time...anyone remember the KONY 2012 stuff? -
"Suck it, NCAA"-USC It's pretty impressive that despite the worst sanctions since SMU (which I think by now everyone can agree were total bs), USC will have had two 10 win, top-25 ranked seasons and never finished below .500 during those sanctions! Sark has been on a roll recruiting areas of need (linemen, db)...so hopefully USC will pick up right where they left off.

SeaWorld Orlando (SWO) Discussion Thread

This is my biggest problem with the film. It is very clear the controversy the film created is exactly what the director and CNN wanted to have happen. We wouldn't be having this discussion and people wouldn't be reacting so passionately if the documentary was merely meant to be an educational piece (See Ken Burns as an example of someone who can produce documentaries without controversy). So I don't buy that for a second. Ultimately, as with everything else in life---there are legitimate pros and cons to the things Sea World does. There is no right or wrong answer, because there is an argument and counter-argument to everything. The only actual losers will end being the animals themselves, when Sea World makes inevitable changes to how they do things and donations to their conservation fund slow down. -

I'm glad Sea World is finally fighting back, though I think it is already too late. But I agree with Robb that this probably had to go through so many reviews before being approved, so that was probably the hold up. I hope they will remain aggressive in trying to show the good they do as well. -
^It's been rumored for a long time that MGM would buy the project/property. Makes sense for them, as it would basically give them control of 2/3 of the strip and complete the process of making the south end of the strip a destination. They added the night club & Cirque show, already have a decent sized arena/convention space @ Mandalay, a couple of decent restaurants at Mandalay & Mandalay place so really the only element missing is more shopping/dining and a major tourist attraction (I don't consider the aquarium a big draw).

^I actually like the location. Views in both directions!

But since they are rumored to add more hotel rooms, more rides to both theme parks, and a third theme park, They could provide even higher competition to Disney. The difference is that they don't have nearly the expansion ability due to land, and they won't be able to offer the complete family friendly atmosphere that Disney does. Wasn't Universal trying to turn a bunch of land they used to own into recreational land? Universal sold that land under Vivendi. Screamscape is reporting that a mysterious company may or may not have development plans for it.

If Magic Mountain gave us something good to discuss, I am sure we would be discussing that too. When Jay Thomas first came on, there was plenty of praise. YOLOCoaster itself also received tons of praise. Talking about a roof for so long is probably a little excessive, but what else is there to discuss right now? X2 still down? None of the rides running the maximum amount of trains? Nothing being done on the Bugs Bunny World expansion yet?

I feel like Sea World should turn the tide on the bands by saying "the appearance fees from these bands have now been used to fund a new conservation program to save some animal" -
^That's about the average for the WNBA. I think the Sparks are around 7,000 here in L.A. The NBA still subsidizes the league, but many of the teams are independently owned now. I definitely think the remaining teams that are owned by their NBA counterparts will sell them off, but I don't think it will fold.
