  1. It just seems like their motivation is "Neil Patrick Harris is popular and a Disney nerd...lets put him in the show." I just don't feel like a night time show at a theme park should be anything other than pyro, lighting, lazers, etc. Projecting a clipshow on water screens and adding some effects typical of a night time show isn't that exciting to me.
  2. ^What does he add besides making even more like a highlight show and less like a theme park show?
  3. Has anyone in this thread even mentioned that Twisted Colossus is probably still going to have the same parking stripes underneath it that has been there since the 70's? At least be consistent in the complaining about SFMM! Scream would still be a mediocre B&M regardless of whether or not it looked nice on the ground underneath. Personally, I think the only really tacky part is they didn't even bother to pave over the parking lot when they created the exit path for the ride. You can still still the parking stripe underneath the old photo booth. That's bad because it's a guest area. Who cares about an area of the ride none of us will ever walk?
  4. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2015/02/neil-patrick-harris-joins-mickey-mouse-as-host-of-the-all-new-world-of-color-show-for-the-disneyland-resort-diamond-celebration/ I'm not really sure what to make of this...Neil Patrick Harris is a great performer (and a theme park nerd himself), but putting him in World of Color seems odd. Still makes me feel 'meh' about the show.
  5. I was able to see Less than Jake and Reel Big Fish last week, so I am good on concerts! ...Except for Weird Al in Vegas!
  6. ^What's interesting/fascinating to me about Vegas is I think that is the one city in the world that can get away with consistently re-inventing themselves. It's really part of their culture. In Los Angeles, it bums me out whenever a developer demolishes a piece of history for a generic giant condo building. In Las Vegas it doesn't even phase me. I mean, they went from Mob ruled, to mega resorts, to family friendly, to ultra luxury, and now the big thing is non-gaming items like clubs and shopping and conventions.
  7. I actually LOVE what they are doing to the AP prices. Either make them pay their fair share or clear out so there's room for the park to make more money off of tourists! Makes me think that another major announcement is coming soon and this is just the first step in preparing for it.
  8. Of course it is WAY too early to judge, but I have to say that having someone from consumer products now running the parks raises a red flag. One one hand, you can imagine that the parks will continue to be a giant cash cow since I am sure his expertise will help on the merchandise/sales/marketing side (which is ultimately all the shareholders care about). However, you have to worry if the parks will become too sales driven and lose sight of the guest experience (attractions, service, etc.)
  9. ^The $30 price was just a random number I chose. The point is when people are on vacation in Orlando, I am guessing there is a very small percentage of guests who would say "we don't need to check out the water park because we can just go over to another hotel pool for the day instead!" Does anyone really know anybody who WOULD think that? Like, do people really tell their kids "sorry, you can't go to Wet'N'Wild because we're just going to go another one of the hotel pools instead!" I am not saying they will make it quasi-exclusive. My main point is that I think it is way too early to assume anything. That is just one hypothetical option I threw out there since all the speculation that Wet'N'Wild is closing is also just hypothetical at this point too! My personal opinion is it makes perfect sense to make it quasi-exclusive to resort guests (even if that is something as simple as only a few hours exclusive to resort guests before opening to everyone), as Universal is being aggressive in adding hotel rooms and needs as many reasons as possible for guests to chose them over all the other Orlando options.
  10. ScareLA sent us a note to let us know that their pre-sale started today with some great discounts! Tickets are currently 60% off until Friday
  11. Not sure if they were added or moved, but a lot of the sea trains have been moved due to the park vacating backstage land that they apparently don't own. Why the park doesn't own the yard behind Apocalypse or even beyond the access road behind Batman and Riddler's is beyond me... Because Newhall land and Farming wants to eventually develop everything around SFMM. That land would be a buffer between the park and future developments.
  12. I'm still not sure where you are going with the argument having a nice pool at a hotel automatically eliminates the possibility a guest would go to a water park as well. Will some budget minded people pass on a water park ticket because their hotel offers an experience close enough? Sure. But that's such a small segment of the piece of the pie Universal is trying to bring to its property. If I am spending $400/night on a hotel for a holiday weekend vacation (that's how much Portofino Bay is going for on 4th of July weekend), $30 for a water park ticket isn't going to kill me. THAT would be the type of spender Universal would hope to attract *IF* this water park happens to be qausi-exclusive to resort guests.
  13. It's a Disney staple. I can't imagine it is going anywhere.
  14. ^What's funny is for me I prefer rides that flip you instead of spin you. I hate gravitrons, scramblers, etc. but can do power surges, KMG Tango, KMG Inverson, etc. with no problems.
  15. ^Los Angeles had similarly long lines when they did a "pop up" location in conjunction with promoting "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle" and we still don't have one out here. That probably has a lot more to do with California's not so business friendly climate I think the biggest things are on the back end: someone needs to have the capital to set up the distribution chain and deal with any labor hurdles to still meet the required profit margins.
  16. The White Castle in Vegas had a similar rush when it opened. I personally enjoy White Castle when I have the opportunity to eat it! It's not gourmet, but it's far from terrible. I think a lot of people just can't deal with the aftermath.
  17. I enjoy them. They disorient you, but not to the point it makes you sick.
  18. Back in my days at the park, those shipping containers were storage for retail. So I'm guessing they added more storage.
  19. ^By that logic, anyone who stays at a deluxe WDW resort would never visit any of Disney's waterparks because they already have a nice pool and water slide on their property. You can't compare a full size water park to a resorts pool. Sure, someone doing Orlando on the cheap might limit their water activities to the pool...but to the people planning their ultimate vacation, an extra $30 isn't going to break their bank. In fact, offering the park as quasi-exclusive might convince someone to stay at UO vs. all the other hotels/resorts around. UO is adding a ton of hotel rooms and needs reasons for people to stay in them. I'm not saying it's a lock they will leave Wet'N'Wild open, but I don't think it's a sure thing at this point with UO trying to grow as a resort.
  20. If you're going to gear a brand new, full sized water park almost entirely to resort guests, why let them pool hop at extravagantly sized pool facilities you keep building? Because you aren't charging extra for the pools. They could follow the model of some of the indoor water parks (I believe Atlantis resort does this too) where resort guests have first dibs on buying tickets before selling to the general public.
  21. ^Nothing can save that park! On a serious note, this could work well for smaller parks and carnivals. Help pay for the ride and get a few tickets to come back. Or your name on the ride if you donate a ton.
  22. I'm pretty sure every Disney character is popular in Japan. I bet the merchandise/meet and greet lines for this will be hours long!
  23. I'm assuming it will be different for the night time version of the tour.
  24. Why is everyone so sure Wet'N'Wild would close? Other possibilities for the new park could be that demand was so high for Wet'N'Wild they need a second park to help. Or making the new park resort guests only (with limited tickets sold to non resort guests).
  25. If I was running SFMM, I'd buy a $20 plant from Home Depot and place it under Scream just to mess with enthusiasts.
