I'd have to say the roughest is the Mighty Canadian Spine (mine) buster and Canada's Wonderland. I thought it made Meanstreak feel smooth! After 1 ride on minebuster, I had to take a break and the headache followed in minutes, and the bruises on the rib cage lasted for days. Cedar fair needs to seriously rethink this ride - either take it down and replace with an Intamin woodie or retrack/reprofile the ride! David

Rate My Reseach Paper (about Amusement Parks)
taytig replied to Wathell's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I applaud your intentions - you obviously have a passion for themeparks. As a teacher, I would like to offer a bit of feedback that could help. Voice - your writing has a good voice, but research papers should not have a voice - they are driven by facts. Effective use of Language- needs some work. You have written this report like it is an oral presentation. Language you would use for a written report is very different than a speech. Conventions of writing- Punctuation and grammar - you really need to work on this. Keep complete thoughts together and vary your sentence length a bit - it helps the reader. You also need to make sure to read your work OUT LOUD - when you do this, you will see what does not make complete sense. Organization - you are all over the map. When I read, I was often wondering where you were going with the report. Is about themepark history or about rolller coasters. Make sure to define your topic in the first paragraph and stick to it. At times it seems like you added things to make it longer-it really distracted from the rest of the report. Ideas and Content - I think you did well with your ideas and content, you just lacked the ability to put it all together. I also think a few quotes from reputable sources are necessary. This links with the "Voice" section. You need to make sure that this is a proper research report, rather that a knowledgable person shaing what they know. I hope this feedback helps. If this were graded by me, I would return it and ask you to critically evaluate your writing and make some changes, based on feedback. If you have the opportunity to conference with your teacher prior to submitting this report - please do, you will find that together you, with teacher guidance and direction, could make this report meet expections. Based on the fact that I don't have the details of the assignment, I will not put a grade on it, just my comments! Best of luck! David -
I'm kind of on the fence about this ride. It looks fun and I'm sure the average kid (or parent) will really enjoy it. Could it have been a lot more - I think so. If Disney was to have animatronics at each of the sections that did a 10 sec blurb on the goal/aim of the game then the screens, it would be an improvement and make it more immersive. For example - you come to Woody's Round Up section and an animatronic Woody tells you what you are aiming at and how to get the most points. The lights go off and the screen turns on and you begin the game. I think this would have "stepped it up a bit" and made it more enjoyable for the families and the enthusiasts. Just a thought.

Food and Wine is great because you can experience many different beverages and foods. I have done Wine tasting in Germany and France and it was great. Not too expensive, but well worth the money!! I also just bought food when I was hungry. It could get expensive, but that is typical for a theme park. I hope you really enjoy! -
TPR Member Profiles - What would YOU change?
taytig replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I like the idea of having a spot to list homepark, fav woodie, fav steel, fav park etc. This could help find people with similar interests. I also think a friends menu would be good too! -
Does anyone use RSS feeds?
taytig replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Robb - I use them for news headlines, but that's it. If you are going to use them. I would probably just do the front page updates as the forum has so many posts that the RSS would be a bit much. Just a thought. -
What's your favorite Flat ride?

For some reason, I really like "CHAOS" rides. I have found them to be fast, fun and not too intense. -
Do NOT try this at your local waterpark!

I watched the video and realized that one of the stuntmen is a friend of mine. I worked with him on a cruise ship. I've sent him an email to see if I can get more information to post here! David -

taytig replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Robb - thanks for the reply - I missed the FAQ part and I understand the challenges. I guess I'll push to see if I can do the whole mini..... If not, have a great time. -
TPR Mini Trips - 2008
taytig replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I know it has been said before, but could you refresh my memory regarding joining TPR for a day. I can't make the entire mini-trip - due to family issues, but would like to meet up for a day. Can I pay a portion for admission, meals that day and perks? Just wondering.... -
Missed Credits: Coasters you COULD have...
taytig replied to RIP Psyclone's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I missed Avalanche at Wisconsin Dells. I just couldn't see spending the money just to ride - and my family thinks it's just plain crazy to like coasters like I do. SO I didn't ride it! -

I don't really think the train design is that bad. I think that if the station is staffed properly, it won't be a problem. Could they put more typical B&M seating on this ride in the future - they could potentially run 16 rows of 4 - that's 64 people per train! IF these trains fail- imagine the possibilities! I do think we will see floorless trains in a couple of years though - the design could easily be adapted for that! -

I would hope that they would allow fanny packs. I for one have to carry one - I have allergies that require an EPI-Pen to be close and a lot of people with Asthma need their inhalers. I know an inhaler is small, but a epi-pen is different. I wonder if they make exceptions for these reasons and how it would be handled.... -

Canada's Wonderland (Cedar Fair) has confirmed that they will announce their next attraction on August 27. Let's hope they announce a great coaster to top off the average collection that they currently have. There currently is some construction happening and some footers are already poured and waiting..... -
I worked at EPCOT in 1994 and we helped "sweep" sections for guests. We had to help guests make their way out, then check the doors backstage (the ones that locked) and then make our way out with the night manager. Even though the night crews came later, we still did a pretty thorough sweep of the entrance plaza.

1st photo TR - Marineland
taytig replied to taytig's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The people in front of me were waiting, so they let me pass. So no, I don't think it was line jumping as it was my turn. But I also wasn't going to argue with the OP, that wouldn't have accomplished anything... -
My first TR - Hope you enjoy the read. Some PICS at the end.... My 5 year old daughter decided she wanted to spend her birthday at Marineland (we were supposed to be in WDW, but a vehicle breakdown forced us to stay home in Canada). It was a very hot day and it reached 38 degrees (100 F)! The park was hot, the parking lot was full, but it was surprisingly not that busy inside the park. We started off in the kids section. While my 2 year old daugher and wife rode the viking carousel, the birthday girl and I rode the Orca Screamer. It was a fun ride with some surprising speed (especially for a mini drop tower). After that, we went over to the ladybug coaster. This was the first rollercoaster for the birthday girl (3 years ago) and it was her 2 year old sister's first credit! She loved it! However, the ride op needed a bit more training. They were letting the coaster do 4 laps each time, but while we were waiting, she let it stop halfway up the lift hill 3 times (giving extra rides until she could park the train in the station). But all in all, the kids loved it. We did a few other kids rides before heading to see the whales. On the ferris wheel - they were using a super soaker to spray people as they wheel turned! It was a bit annoying at first, but welcomed considering the heat! Friendship Cove and Arctic cove were great! The kids loved being able to see the whales up close! It was also nice to cool off in the underwater viewing area. We then headed towards the back of the park. I went to ride Dragon Mountain, but the ride op made me leave. Long story short - the gates were closing as I was going through so I jumped over it to prevent being stuck half way through. I sat in the train and they made me leave because I was "Line-jumping" I know they were just doing their job, but they wouldn't even listen to my side of the story (about avoiding being crushed by their gate as they closed them without looking). So instead of going all the way around as they told me to, I chose not to wait (yes, there was a wait and a very slow one train operation) and just left. I'll ride it another day. On my way out though I did notice their Topple Tower was testing! It is supposed to open in 2 weeks! - They still have a fair bit of work to do, but it is looking okay so far. Finally, we bypassed Sky Screamer (the hill is just a pain) and went to the front of the park to see the Sea Lion and Dolphin show. It was not as cheesy as it was in the past and the kids loved it. We then left and headed towards home. In total, 5 hours in the park and a the family had a lot of fun. Thanks for reading and here are the PICS!! The new Topple Tower Testing! "Ain't my pretzel pretty?" Asked the mountain. A menacing entrance for a not-to-be-ridden-today coaster Oh, Hello there - I'm a big bad beluga! The two year old and Daddy on Skyhawk The birthday girl and Daddy on Skyhawk Another Whale Have to see the whales of course

I have to put in my 2 cents here. I don't necessarily agree with this. Image problems to enthusiasts and locals- yes - the GP - probably not. I went to SFMM and had a great day and did not experience any of the problems I so often hear about. - But I was also not looking for them. I even had a great time at Darien Lake! However - in my home park - Canada's Wonderland - I see more and notice issues. I think that the image problem is somewhat perceived and not always a problem for everyone. Having worked at Disney - I have very high standards as well, but image is also subjective. My thoughts - the bottom line is Money. If Six Flags can get this to work - great for them. Will it help their image - NO! especially among the enthusiast crowd. SO, you can bash parks all you want and for almost any reason, but keep in mind - a lot of people will still go and pay full price for the day and the revenue from enthusiasts who choose not ot go truly won't be missed. Please don't take this wrong - I like parks and rollercoasters as much as the rest of you and this move by Six Flags doesn't change my opinion of them - it is just good business and will generate revenue (which benefits us all in terms of new attractions and investments).

Good press release, but too bad for PCW. I was really hoping this ride would move north of the border and open later in the season. Oh well, maybe next year!!!! -

I realize the link was in the media centre, but it was on the main page today as well - around 1:30pm. That's what made me think that a press release is coming. But hey, who knows, we'll just have to wait and see!! -

I think that there is a possibility that this coaster may end up in Canada. I was on their site today and it has changed - there was a new for 2007 section, which was not there before. It was empty though Tonight, it is back to normal, so they are working on something. I also looked at the other Cedar Fair Properties and the only other one that was like this was WOF. So I think it will be either of these two. The fact that the site was being updated brings me a glimmer of hope (I actually enjoyed the ride too). So fingers crossed - PCW may actually get something new!
