Mark's Postcard Paradise
taytig replied to thrillerman1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I loved Predator when I first rode it - I think it was in 95, but the last time 2001 - was brutal. Hopefully they can give this ride some love and make it better.... David -
Universal Studios Singapore Discussion Thread
taytig replied to Adriel's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
From what I could see, BG looks like a good ride! It is two well laid out twisted hunks of metal. I think that Vekoma has finally hit the mark with this one. If they launched the red side just a tad earlier, there would be some even more awesome dueling moments. I hope we can see something like this in North America. The GP would eat this up at a park like Canada's Wonderland, King's Island etc. David -
Ride You Felt Was Unsafe?
taytig replied to Mr Stratosphere's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There was an out and back coaster at the now defunct Boblo Island. When I went on it many years ago, the lap bars did not lock. The whole ride with a lap bar that kept lifting on the crest of each hill. I did not feel safe at all! David -
Club TPR is Coming in March!

Seen it Did it Hope it is an acceptable amount of it! David -
We cruised 9.5 yeras ago - and the ship was supposed to have been redone. It was not a great experience, and a hard one to get over. Having worked for DCL, I know what could have happened, and nothing did. Overall negative experience that leaves little desire to go back. As for freestyle cruising - I really don't think I like the concept. I like structure on a vacation like this so you can maximize your experience. Having to stand and wait for dinner would be a real problem for me! David

Thanks for the update on DCL - I am glad they did what they did for their guests, even when they didn't have to do anything. BUT DCL has always gone above and beyond in my opinion. AS for an overnight at Castaway Cay - not fun, when you can't get off the ship! We had this once when I worked on the Wonder, and it is hard to explain to guests that they can't get off and explore the island.... As for NCL - I will never sail with them again. I spent my honeymoon (to Alaska) on the Norwegian Wind (I think that was the name at the time) and the ship was terrible. The food was about as good as Burger King (no offense to Burger King), the entertainment looked like it was from an underfunded high school drama department and the cabins were terrible. We had no working toilet for 5 of the seven days we sailed and they refused to move us to another cabin as there were non left in our price category and they would not upgrade us. I was on a strict diet due to a heart problem and was not allowed to drink and they sent me a bottle of wine as compensation on the last night of the cruise (after a $50 bar bill for the entire cruise from drinking Pepsi/Coke, you think they would have noticed this....). I was also told that we could use a public area toilet instead of fixing the one in our room -oh what fun at 3:00 am! After about 6-8 months of letters and phone calls, they offered me a 25% off another cruise - but only if I cruised with them in the next 6 months - not even possible due to going back to school to become a teacher. When I tried to address my issues on the ship, I was told (at 8:00pm one night) that a manager was not available! Where were the managers? - They don't go home for the night! I have worked in the cruise industry and found NCL to be at the bottom of the barrell. I can honestly say that I don't think there is anyway they could earn my business back. I have heard other people have had better experiences, but I don't think they'll ever get my money again! If they offered me a free cruise - I'd consider it, but my expectations would be very low! I'd rather go with DCL or RCCL.... David

TPR's New Forum UPGRADE!
taytig replied to Hhappy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I like the new look. Great Job everyone. One small problem - when I went to the Trip Report Archive, the pics didn't show in the post, I had to click on each one to view. Just an FYI - I am using IE 8 and Vista Home Premium. Congrats on the new look! David -
The Disney Dream is doing some 5 day cruises. I know they are not 7 day, but they do hit a double stop at Castaway Cay. When we book, we are going to try the 5 day. 3 days only good for hesitant cruisers who want to see what cruising is like. 4 Days are good for short get-a-ways, The 5 day is a good compromise.....

Inappropriate touch is never funny. Period. People are judging this girl's reaction, without knowing her history. What if she was a victim of sexual assault in the past? Has she been sexually abused? We do not know the answers to these questions, so we probably should not be judging the girl's decisions and actions. For the guys out there - what if the guy reached over and grabbed your manhood? Would you laugh? Think it is funny? Find the situation a bit exagerated? I know I wouldn't. I think that when society deems these things funny, we have taken a step closer to the bottom of the barrell. Sadly this disappoints me. As for Disneyland's response - I do hope he is caught and not allowed to return. Ever. In fact I hope he gets his day in court and punished to the full extent of the law for this CRIME.

Club TPR Membership Card - VOTING!!!
taytig replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think the logo on JDS is the best. Overall, there are many cards that are very well done! I'll get on of these for my wallet when they come out! David -
Furius Baco behind the scenes
taytig replied to Trevor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great video - I can only hope that a North American Park build their own version of Baco. I can just picture this through trees, along water and a few tunnels. -
How did you end up here???
taytig replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I found my way to TPR before google was formed! Well, maybe not quite - but I did find the original site in the late 90s.... -
1. What are your initial thoughts? I think this is good idea. It may make the forums for the paying members a bit different, but I think that is okay. I like the idea and $40/50 really isn't that much 2. Can you think of anything else we could be offering? Maybe a list of specific discounts - ie - Cedar fair will give XXXXX, Busch Gardens will give XXXXXX etc. That way people will know how to maximize the use of the club membership. Maybe a quarterly E-zine that focuses on specific parks or coasters, ride reviews, manufactures etc. - kind of like what ACE offered, but maybe centred around TPR trips etc. - you can even tap into member talents to produce this 3. Is this something that interests you? Yep - I think it would be great! 4. Why would you NOT be interested in this? If you don't use the benefits, it could be a waste. BUT, people who really want this will pay and those who don't won't 5. Any additional feedback you can give us based on the information you see here. TPR is great. I have been following TPR for 10 years or so. From back when it was a small site with Robbs first trip reports! I love the site and any additions you make are great and it you need a bit of money from membership to improve it, great! I understand that this is not Robb's full time job, but it certainly could be with the amount of work that goes into this site!

24 Days of Theme Park Review Videos!
taytig replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Was this ride ever smooth? I really don't remember it being that bad when I rode it. After seeing this video though, I don't think I'd risk it again! -
Fireball looks great! I hope we could get a clone built in North America! I'm glad you guys are having fun!!
-
I know this is not theme park or coasters, but it is Disney! It seems that The Disney Wonder rescued a Man Overboard from a carnival cruise ship. As a former Cast/Crew member, I am very proud of the crew and their amazing job. Enjoy the video. Mods - Please move this thread if required. www.wesh.com/video/20709924/index.html

Disneyland Fantasmic! Dragon !
taytig replied to scotchTAPE's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I liked both shows, but I think I prefer Cali! Actually my daughter hated the show at WDW - she thought it was too scary (and she doesn't normally get scared). The crowds trying to get in and out of the stadium ruined Florida for me. I know at DL the crowds can get intense, but it doesn't seem the same. When I saw the show at DL, I had no idea of the scale of the show. It blew me away that they could do so much right inside a small area of the park. As for the Dragon - the old dragon was disappointing and I am glad they have changed it. As for the Florida version - changing the dragon would not make me go see it again. -
Nope - but you are in the right park and the right location!!

Here it is! If you want a larger file for printing please PM me your email and I'll send it. I have also resized it for your avatar if you wanted it! I added a bonus coaster in the background - Can you name it? I hope you enjoy!!

Disney to acquire Marvel
taytig replied to ParkTrips's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Financially the revenue from licencing the characters is huge! This alone in an income giant. I don't think we have to worry about seeing Mickey and Wolverine side by side any time soon. I say good for Disney for making a great financial decision that will make them a lot of money in the future.... -
I did the best I could, with your requests, it was difficult to fit things in without blocking the name. Hope you like it! David
