Six Flags Great Adventure 4/11
Sue replied to coastakid's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm in the group who doesn't believe parks should close early due to weather. All businesses have good days and bad. Some days you'll make lots of money and other days you'll lose money--that's how businesses work. Just as someone else said, if a restaurant doesn't get "x" number of people for a meal, do they close? No. If a movie theather doesn't get "x" number of people for a movie, do they not show it? No. We've been the only 2 people in a theatre at times. Lake Compounce is the biggest culprit when it comes to closing the park. We had one time where we called 5 minutes before opening from our hotel and were told they were opening and when we get there about 10 minutes later, they were closed. There's quite a few other times that they've closed where the sun was shining an hour or two after they would've opened. With Compounce, if they can't make money, they don't open. -
The parking lot was very empty, but rides did have lines. El Toro only had 1 train and the queue was about 3/4 full, Rolling Thunder had a long wait due to 10 minute dispatches, and Superman's line was quite long even though they had 2 trains there. I hope tomorrow is a better day because I plan on going again. Hopefully, Nitro will by running by tomorrow.

We go to opening day at SFGAd every year and this was the worst by far. About the only thing we accomplished in the first hour was seeing Big Mike. They did get El Toro (one train ops with a long line) and Rolling Thunder open. When we left at 2, Nitro and KK were definitely still closed. I'm not sure if Dark Knight opened or if Blackbeard was open. Mike, I'm going to e-mail you the pictures to the e-mail address in your Facebook profile.

I absolutely LOVE Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Knightmares. Kitchen Knightmares can get a bit disgusting, but they're both quite hilarious!

PTR Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo 12/14/08
Sue replied to Sue's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You're right, Tiger Terror does look much better in it's new location. Mike, if you do go, I would recommend the Wild Wonderland event if you're there in December. It's only $13 and includes unlimited rides. If you go during normal zoo hours, not only is it $19 admission, but you have to pay extra for rides. -

PTR Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo 12/14/08
Sue replied to Sue's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Why did this thread get moved to the Random forums when it's most certainly amusement/theme park related? -
On Sunday night after Busch had closed, we decided to head over to the Lowry Park Zoo for their Wild Wonderland Christmas event. They're open during the day for their regular zoo hours before closing for an hour and then reopening for the night event. We always wanted to check out this zoo so this was the perfect opportunity. We always enjoy Christmas events and the fact that they had a new coaster credit made it even more appealing. They obtained the Tiger Terror coaster from Wild Adventures and it was already up and running. Normally you have to pay zoo admission of about $19 and then the rides are extra on top of that. However, with the Wild Wonderland event, admission was only $13 and included the rides. In addition to the coaster, they also have a zoo-themed carousel, a log flume, a couple kiddie rides, and a round-trip sky ride which travels over a good portion of the zoo. On to the pictures... Gator Falls looked like fun, but we didn’t feel like getting soaked. Awww, the sleeping gopher tortoises were so cute! Thanks for reading!

Knoebels Discussion Thread
Sue replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Unfortunately, HSTC is leaving. I decided to e-mail Knoebels and ask. This is the response that I got today... -
Unfortunately, Hershey never opens any coasters for Christmas. It's just kiddie rides and most non-coaster rides except for Flying Falcon and the entire Midway America area being closed.

I'm with you on getting rid of Hydra instead of Laser. I tell you, the land that Hydra is on is cursed from having any good coaster on it. Are you talking about getting a wet butt in the front seat? We made that mistake on the Friday night before. That's why we weren't making any attempt to ride the front on Saturday.

I also work close by the Spinnerstown Hotel in nearby Pennsburg. I pass by there every day on the way to work. I've never been in there though. How did you find out about it? It seems to be in an out of the way location unless you're specifically looking for it.

Farenheit not open in October
Sue replied to CTcoastin's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It still seems to be a matter of who you ask as to whether it's going to be open. A friend of mine just received this response from them today: I also e-mailed them the link mentioned above and asked them why it's listed there if it's not open. They just wrote back to me insisting it wouldn't be open and they sent me a copy of the rides list. Of course they neglected to mention the link I sent them stating that it would be open. I think these people answering the e-mails are just looking at the rides list and assuming it's not open. -
Kemah Boardwalk and Bullet Discussion Thread
Sue replied to eddie200330's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This video doesn't show much of Boardwalk Bullet, but it does show some other rides close-up: http://www.khou.com/video/news-index.html?nvid=282748 -
No Star Flyer for me--you couldn't pay me to go on that thing!

We'll be in the area this weekend and were thinking of hitting up the CNE. Can anyone tell me what roller coasters they have this year? Also, if anyone has any tips/advice on visiting the CNE, I'd appreciate that as well. Also, what midway/carnival company provides the rides?
