TPR! The Travel Channel Needs YOU!
DATman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My only question is whether we have to pay for park admission or not. Because I would love to do it at Kings Dominion as I've never been, but if we have to pay for admission I might as well go as a guest. Even then, this is an awesome opportunity for everyone to do something fun on some of the best rides, and it's really fantastic of the Travel Channel to reach out to you Robb! -
The BEST roller coaster view EVER???
DATman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There are very few places in the US where you could put a coaster and have a view that spectacular. -

I like that the new icons look like the Pokemon symbols for type. I love the look of the concept art though! Glad I got to ride it once before the overhaul but I found that while the ride itself was a ton of fun and really inventive, the scenery lacked depth/scale, and the way this concept art looks it seems like those issues are being resolved! So far so good. -

I can't believe no one has commented in this! Such an epic layout. Some really inventive elements that led to a really fun ride. Loved it from start to finish. -

This is why I love TPR. And now I've figured out what I want to do with my friends for spring break next year. -

That speed hill loks amazing! -
The thing is, the report on Westcoaster had nothing to do with the event itself nor the people who organize it and everything to do with the fact that management at SFMM is just bad. The superman comment (to me) had more to do with the fact that the ride was just sitting there (without any sort of real construction happening). If it had a whole bunch of construction going on, that'd be pretty understandable. But it didn't. Also, with regards to the Q&A, he's right. It doesn't matter how stupid the question is, you don't insult your guests. They are the reason you have a job. That's just customer service logic.

Walt Disney World Epcot Discussion Thread
DATman replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's funny. I've never had a problem returning within the posted times on my fastpasses, and I've also never had a problem getting on all the rides I want by taking advantage of the "You can get another fastpass at X time" rule that they established. I don't know about everyone else, but if you can't get to a ride when you have a full hour of a time window (and think about it, you really only ever get about 14-16 total hours in the parks on a given day), then that's your fault not Disney's. Heck, I had three days to cover the entirety of WDW the week after Christmas, and I still managed to get on every single ride I wanted to apart from Nemo at Epcot, while obeying all the fastpass rules. I really don't see the issue at all. If you happen to be stuck in a long line and your fastpass expires, that's your fault. You took a gamble, and it didn't pay off. There's no faulting Disney for that. -

TPR's Front Page - What do you like/dislike?
DATman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I wouldn't mind seeing the front page get some updates. I like the general organization of the page, and I think that's something that should be left fairly alone. I think that having the pictures next to the update info is a great choice, and should definitely stay. I think that the style of the page (font, color, background, etc) might be updated to something a little more modern. I think the thing that is lacking the most visually is the menu bar at the top of the page. There's a lot going on up there, and it could be a little bit more sleek. I think it is crucial to keep that aspect of fun in the style of the page, but at the same time I think it could look a bit less dated. I agree that the announcements section could take up less space. I think it's necessary, but perhaps without the pictures, or something along those lines, so that the updates aren't as far down the page. I do think that having the two slogans (the first in the header and the second in the white line of text) is a bit much. The white text is fairly redundant, as everything that's stated in it is also in the menu options. I don't think the menus should have drop-down stuff, as that can get a little annoying and I don't mind clicking to the Forum page before going to the different forums. You might also play with relocating the search bar. I'm not sure where it might go, but the spot it's in is kind of bizarre because it takes up a ton of space. The last thing I think that you could do is play with color. The header has some very bold, distinct colors that are then never repeated in the design of the home page. Instead you have the yellow and orange text. I think that keeping yellow somewhere in the text is important as it is the primary text color of the forums, but I also think that the orange could go away. Perhaps you change the color of the headers to each section ("Announcements" "Random Stuff" etc). -

Robb & Elissa go to Park City, Utah!
DATman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Park City is gorgeous! You guys look like you're having a great time. Seeing pics of Park City is getting me so excited for the Sundance festival this month. I'll have to do a PTR thread about that. -
TPR's Game Exchange! BETA TESTING!
DATman replied to robbalvey's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
^Worked great for me! I uploaded a couple files and everything was smooth, and then I downloaded a bunch of NL files and they all ran perfectly. So while the exchange itself is a little rough with navigation as far as things that have already been stated, I really enjoyed using it and think it is a fantastic addition to TPR. I'm going to explore some more tomorrow and see if I can find anything to help you guys iron it out. Great idea and I can't wait to see it when it's finished! This is exactly what the Games section of the forum needed. -
Six Flags Over Texas (SFOT) Discussion Thread
DATman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Don't get me wrong, but I'm pretty sure employees most of time are left out the open to prevent leaks of information. I can't see a Dippin Dot's person at one theme park knowing about the corporate plans of another theme park 2-3 years ahead, even if it's run by the same people. Most of the time, they won't say anything to regular employees until something happens that requires them to do so, like construction. I will use Seaworld Parks and Entertainment for an instance, granted it's not six flags. The General Staff of Busch Gardens Tampa were left out in the air about Cheetah Hunt until about a month and a half in after construction started. Some employees knew because of the coaster communities and the leaked information, but management didn't tell any of them anything til after. Granted, this is Seaworld Parks and Entertainment, not Six Flags. Not only that, he gave you information about parks owned by ANOTHER company. I doubt you got creditable information there, obviously. There's an inside joke on this site that any rumor about future projects comes from the Dippin Dot's guys. It's a joke, and I seriously doubt that Gigalyte actually got his information from a dippin dots guy. But the point is that by prefacing his post with that, he's implying that it's just a rumor and should be treated as such. -
^Macbeth. *whistles* I also happen to be sitting in my dressing room, wearing green.
