  1. I closed my UK season at Legoland, doing the Dragon's Apprentice in the rear, in the dark. My 'coaster season isn't quite over..Orlando to come.
  2. ^ Agreed. Apart from anything else, (and I don't know whether it's the seating configuration or the track style), the Maurers in the UK don't make me feel half as nauseous as THBS at SFDK did, and are thus much more rerideable.
  3. I've certainly seen it used in a similar way to the HM (i.e., ripping the Mansion off) on the Geister Rikscha (sp?) at Phantasialand (Germany), and possibly other Haunted Mansion-type attractions.
  4. Glad I could be of some use!
  5. Obviously, out of a series of cringeworthy photos of me during the trip, the one with the award is my favourite. Obviously. Mike 'is on the IntimidaTour with Scott, so will have to be extra-careful' Moody EDIT-having-actually-read-the-TR-and-not-just-skipped-to-see-how-bad-I-looked: That Toy Story Zoetrope was one of my favourite things I saw on the trip - being a huge fan of animation, and of stop-motion animation, it was exceptionally neat to watch it. So much so, that I did watch it for about five consecutive cycles. Then, after that, I went into Off the Page, and actually got Brianna to draw me a lovely sketch of Dumbo..which I still haven't figured out what to do with.
  6. ^ Another Hitch-Hiker's fan? Yay! I went recently to HitchCon, in London, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the publication of the first book. Eoin Colfer (author of And Another Thing, obviously) was there, so I got my copy signed by him. Have started reading it, enjoying it so far.
  7. I'm not particularly sure on register/POV or clause and syntax, but I can offer some rewording suggestions which may make the flow of the paragraph easier to read: - The second sentence: instead of 'This is why all Belgian schools are now obliged', I personally would have 'To this end, all Belgian schools' or 'For this reason, all Belgian schools' - the latter would probably be preferable. - A suggestion which I think is more related to clauses & communication: reverse the clauses of the third sentence, so it reads 'The government provides so-called starter kits for each age group, though the schools are free to handle this project in the way they feel most fitting.' Also, remember the hyphen I added in there (so-called), probably preferred by examiners. - Fourth sentence: 'In doing this', rather than 'By doing that', and 'the government' in place of just 'they'. Putting a colon or semi-colon between the last senetence and this one, instead of a period/full-stop , would improve the flow. -Sixth sentence: again, 'In/By doing this' instead of 'By that'. Also 'aims to prevent', rather than 'tries to avoid', might be preferable. As I said, these are just suggestions, and they might look like utter rubbish to you, but see what you think
  8. Legoland Billund is pretty much my favourite theme park in the world, and I've loved the Pirate Boats since I first rode them when I was five. I probably prefer them to PotC, actually! Was in the Windsor counterpart tonight, thinking about how much I want to go back to Denmark again.
  9. In my honest opinion, DCA is a much better park than the Studios in Paris, even with construction going on.
  10. I'm getting three videos (from searching your name): Liseberg Amusement Park with Theme Park Review, Sweden Six Flags Over Georgia Goliath POV Georgia Cyclone POV - Six Flags Over Georgia These came from searching from the UK. [EDIT/] obviously same as ^, so the territory difference seems questionable.
  11. I was very much aware of your photo-taking all the way through the trip, but I didn't realise how stunning it would be. These are awesome (apart from my appearance right at the beginning ). Mike 'hardly photogenic' Moody
  12. I'm fairly sure there was an Expedition GeForce video, featuring Elissa walking across the track..I only remember this 'cause of someone's comment, along the lines of 'how do u get to go across the track??'. I think it also had shots from the top of the lifthill. I BELIEVE the Nara Dreamland video was also on there, and quite popular too. Hope I remembered these correctly
  13. Yeah, every few minutes the whole site comes up as 'unavailable', for me.
  14. Put in my deposit for the UK/Europe combo - hopefully see you again in Europe, Hans!
  15. Having seen it twenty times, it's boring now for me. The overbearing synthesiser sound, the screaming fans (particularly over here, at the London production)..I guess I've learnt that it really is not as good as the masses say. The worst thing for me is the constant bitching that occurs (in the UK, at least) whenever a new understudy or standby comes in..and then it's 'OMG SHE'S SO MUCH BETTER THAN [insert principal actress]' or 'OMG SHE'S SO MUCH WORSE THAN [ditto]'..or simply 'OMG KERRY ELLIS <333' Still, it has a place in my heart, for starting off my theatrical obsession..and if I got the chance to see the Broadway production (which I think is vastly superior to the London one) again, I would. Especially with Julia Murney as Elphie.
  16. ^ quite possibly one of the best obsessions to have. The Meskies were just as good as the Clash in many ways, just..slightly mature.
  17. ^ that would be the most amazing ride experience of my life.
  18. Okay, that makes more sense in my memory now.
  19. ^ I believe they've said that removing Spinball Whizzer is part of the long-term plan. But still, I doubt it's a spinner.
  20. Name: Mike Moody Age: 18 What is your roller coaster count? 77 What is your home park? Drayton Manor Park - and that's about an hour away. What is the nearest big city? Birmingham (Coventry is a small city..) What is your occupation? Unemployed (Student on gap year) About how many times a year do you visit a park (including your home park)? On average, 4-5; this year, many more than that. About how many times a year do you travel to a park that is not your home park? 3-4 (again, on average) When you travel do you go primarily to amusement parks or do you also try and hit other sites? Theme parks and (live) theatres/concerts are my two major types of destinations. What is the farthest you’ve traveled to go to an amusement park? All the way to California. Does roller coaster time get in the way of family time? (Do you choose to miss your children’s or family’s sporting events, holidays, birthdays, etc…) No. Do you have any other major hobbies? Theatre, music, other creative pursuits (writing, etc). Do you get feelings of sadness in the offseason? Do you even have an offseason? Do you travel during the offseason? Yep, but if I'm lucky (as I was last year, and will be this year), I will travel internationally for a park that doesn't have an off-season; and the major parks here (Alton Towers, for example) have specisl open weeks in February/March. Do you consider yourself friends with someone you met who works at an amusement park? (Or reverse it, if you work or worked and an amusement park have you made friends with enthusiasts?) Not really. Would it bother you to go to an amusement park by yourself? 99% of the time I go by myself. It helps when getting in Single Rider lines, being able to do what I want when I want - and I don't have many friends who'd go with me. Have you gone to an amusement park by yourself? If so have you ever ran into another enthusiast and tagged along with them? A: see above. B: Nope, but that may hopefully change. Do you find it easy to make friends with other enthusiasts? Generally, particularly on TPR trips, when the overriding general interest is the same. How do you get your coaster news? Theme Park Review, Disney podcasts. How many different forum sites do you regularly post on? Only TPR. If there was a poll that asked a large pool of enthusiasts what their favorite roller coaster is, what do you think would be the top 3 responses be for wood? And for steel? I'm honestly not sure. Same scenario but for amusement parks, what would be the top 3? As above. Have you ever “stole a kid” to get a credit on a kiddie coaster? Nope. Do you cut other categories out of your budget to make trips to parks? (Entertainment, fast food, holidays, tobacco or alcohol, etc…) Somewhat; I'm less inclined to eat, put it that way, if I'm in a park - depending on crowd sizes; and I don't smoke or drink. Before you visit a new park do you research the park finding the best way to navigate the park, get the best deals, or what days to go? Yes. Do you feel the roller coaster enthusiast community is a warm and accepting community, or a negative and discouraging community? Definitely warm and accepting in the majority, although I definitely think it's based on age/'maturity' and experience. Do you like to talk about your hobby with people who are not roller coaster enthusiasts? I do, but they don't ;]
  21. This is pretty much how I would describe my experience on Air a couple of years ago. Sure, it's fairly tame during the day, but in October, when it's dark at 6pm, riding through at least medium rain was awesome. On Sunday, I rode Rollercoaster at Blackpool during a pretty decent shower, which was pretty fun too.
  22. ^ yeah, and the animals were awesome, too. I think I had a run-in with a goat and a chicken..after we 'broke' the family drop tower.
  23. Honestly (and this may be because I'm smaller - in most ways - than the average TPR'er), I LOVED that mouse; in fact, it may be one of, if not my favourite mice. The seats were the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in on a 'coaster, and I don't remember it being as rough as others say. But then, I also love Rattlesnake at Chessington WoA, so go figure.
  24. What sort of price will the discounted UK/Europe combo be?
  25. Grand National (Blue) at Blackpool. Matt (^), it ate my phone! Now I know how you felt about the Giant Dippers..
