Most Ghetto Park You Have Visited
Double0Kevin replied to ViperLover's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^When I went in 2003 it was really fun little place. There were a lot of people, especially at night and all the rides were in great shape. Amazing what 7 years did to it. -
Most Ghetto Park You Have Visited
Double0Kevin replied to ViperLover's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Tahoe Amusement Park in South Lake Tahoe. My last visit was back in 2010, it had gone down hill since I had last visited in 2003. Tilt-A-Whirls can fly apparently Ummm... Tire? Paratrooper... They were sold out of Tab Cola Who says only Europe has self operated rides? What's left of the coaster This was their new ride in the parking lot and yes, this was open for riders. -
Favorite Dark Ride
Double0Kevin replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I also have a number of favorites. Indiana Jones Adventure at DL Pirates at DL Spaceship Earth at Epcot Harry Potter at IOA Transformers at USH Radiator Springs Racers at DCA Tower of Terror at DHS Calico Mine Ride at Knott's In regards to what makes a dark ride, I agree with what was said on the last page, it comes down to controlled environment. Everything from sound and lighting is controlled. Jungle Cruise I would not consider a dark ride. Some rides can be hybrids like Alice in Wonderland where there are dark ride sections along with outdoor sections, these overall I would still call a dark ride. Test Track and Radiator Springs Racers would be another example (Test Track I'm sure would be on this list for me too if I could ever manage to make it on the damn thing). -

^ Thanks for the update. Great to see them moving quickly on all of this. It will be interesting to see how much more open the dome is with Rim Runner gone. It always seemed to take up a lot of room. -

^^ Never knew that about Wild One, just looked up old pictures and saw what you meant. Very interesting. -
Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
Double0Kevin replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think that Paris' thunder mountain has a brilliant ending, swooping turn into a tunnel then another tight turn followed by a plunge down under the lake back to mainland. The sense of speed is great with the train vibrating as it drops down, ending with the train flying up out of a tunnel onto the brakes. Ah, I should have specified the US versions. I haven't been on Paris or Tokyo so I can't speak for those. -

Looks great! I can't believe how fast it went up. I wish some parks in the US would take note of this. -
Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
Double0Kevin replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Best: Flight Deck at CGA easily has my favorite ending. The helix over the water is one of the most intense moments on any ride and leaves you totally pumped up as you get of the ride. Worst: The Big Thunder Mountain Railroads. They are great rides, but if you look at the 3 sections of the rides, the part after the 3rd lift is the slowest and least exciting of them all. I still love the rides though and will continue to ride them whenever possible. -
What is the best floorless?
Double0Kevin replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
For me: 1. Medusa - It's easily the best aged of the ones I've been on. Still smooth as the day it opened. And even though I've ridden close to 1,000 times and I'm a little bored of it, it's hard to deny it's a great coaster. 2. Kraken - Great ride, but had a bit more B&M rattle than I would have liked. 3. Dominator - Also a great ride, just a little to rough for my liking. 4. Scream! - Sucks, waste of money. If the Dive Machines counted, I'd put SheiKra at #1 and Griffon at #3 behind Medusa. -
Reprofiled Coasters
Double0Kevin replied to coastercrazy216's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not a ton, This is the only photo I found big enough to see the mods, If you look at the supports you can see the track dropped more suddenly and lower from the hill leading to the turn around. -

V2 at SFDK has the 45 degree Tower 1 and the shortened 150ft Tower 2, opposed the 186ft vertical towers it opened with. Colossus at SFMM is another one that has seen a lot of modifications over the years. -
Your first Arrow Dynamics coaster

We are going to do a first for every manufacturer aren't we? Oh well, mine was Matterhorn. -
Well then why would Cedar Fair even bother to add in a virtual white water river rafting film in there anyway? It doesn't sound innovative, and it doesn't sound like a fun experience for a ride like the Action Theater (especially if we already have Rip Roaring Rapids). If Cedar Fair didn't care so much, they would've removed all the Action Theaters when they first got the parks! Oh goodness, you are right! How could I be so blind!? If we can't be successful putting in an old movie that people have experienced, we should just rip em all down! Let's go out and raze all the movie theaters in the world, because if they can't be successful just playing Beverly Hills Chihuahua for the rest of eternity, what's the point? People don't want to watch the same movie over and over and over again. This is why Hollywood makes new movies all the time, and this is why theme parks put new films in their simulators. Even Disney updates their ride films when they get tired and old (Star Tours). Maybe you don't want to watch white water rafting, but other might. When I saw those today, I had a feeling someone was going to call me out. Haha.

Orlando or Cedar Point
Double0Kevin replied to gforce1994's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Right, it's unfair to compare the two locations that were asked to be compared. With time restrictions, CP would be easier because it's one park to focus on. With Orlando, you will really need to plan ahead of time to make sure you do what you want to do, and likely he will have to skip some stuff that he'd probably want to do in order to do some stuff he wanted to do more. Like gisco just said, spend a week in Orlando and just barely scratch the surface. I was just there for 9 days and easily could have spent 9 more. -
Well, Evil Dead isn't quite the same audience despite it looking more "fun." Personally I have 0 desire to watch a movie that didn't need a remake, even if the original director is involved. And John Carter's biggest cause for disaster was that Disney launched one of, if not the worst marketing campaigns in the history of film that confused people more than anything. Fans were making better trailers that even Andrew Stanton was admitting were far superior than the crap Disney was making. I thought it was a great film, easily one of my favorites (though I may be biased being a fan of the books). As far as Oz goes. I think it has the potential to be awesome, so I'm looking forward to seeing it and hoping for great things. And their marketing is straight forward and everywhere, so there is little excuse for it to fail other than people not caring about Oz anymore.

First, I didn't notice the little dude she was holding because I was noticing how "flat" did not apply to the cute girl in the photo. Second, why does it feel like this thing has suddenly become the slowest construction on earth? They were hauling and this seems like it's taking forever. I've lost hope for opening day and feel like this is pushing Six Flags status with a Memorial Day opening. It's obviously not weather, because it's been beautiful lately with only one day of slight drizzle. I just want to ride it all ready but it feels like even Full Throttle is catching up... sad face. Um.. last time I checked, almost all the movies weren't owned by Paramount. They were owned by different companies (most notably iWerks). Check again. I guarantee SimEx-iWerks pays Paramount (or whichever film studio) for the rights to use their characters in a ride film, which translates into the cost to parks. Plus, bringing back old 3D movies doesn't really inspire nostalgia in guests and most are dated with how rapidly technology advances now-a-days.

I also went and saw Identity Thief, unlike the post above, I was pretty disappointed with it. I had more laughs watching the trailer the first time than I did in the actual film. It also bugged me how many extra story lines there were that never seemed to get resolved or even explained in the first place. Melissa McCarthy was definitely the highlight with Jason Bateman playing the same character he plays in every film he's ever been in. I wouldn't recommend anyone waste their money though, just wait for it to be on TV. I also saw Taken 2 finally. Another one you won't need to write home about, but this one was still fun and had a lot of mindless action. If you liked the first one, you won't think this one is better, but you will still likely enjoy it.
