Your First Schwarzkopf Coaster?
Double0Kevin replied to SingleRiderCam's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Or those of us old enough to remember when only 5 movies came out a week! Quality over quantity. 5 a week sounds like a large quantity to me... Unless you mean 5 a year, but then that would be a crazy over exaggeration as there were way more than that even back then. -
Your First Schwarzkopf Coaster?
Double0Kevin replied to SingleRiderCam's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Tidal Wave/Greased Lightning at CGA (first rode it when it was Tidal Wave). And the Schwarz was with it! (Spaceballs reference for all you cool people. And yes, I know the movie was actually "schwartz"). -

It used to be themed to central park with fake trees and all that. I think there was a little creek that went through too. Luxor used to be pretty awesome, it had some Egyptian themed rides and other cool stuff to look at. MGM used to be themed to the Wizard of Oz (thus it's emerald color scheme). I caught the tail end of the theme craze in 2004, some things were still around but it was clear that theming was taking a hike. I like the modern style of casinos, but it works better in a hotel that was designed that way from the get go, like Cosmopolitan. The only hotel that was successful (in my eyes) making itself modern without looking half done us Planet Hollywood. There is very little there that still looks like the Aladdin. Back on topic, how do you guys feel about the 4 person cars (with lap bars only) like Steel Hawg rather than the 8 person cars like Green Lantern? I've seen the park be pretty busy in the past, but overall I can see the the 4 person cars being enough. -
What was your first B&M Coaster?

Either Top Gun or Vortex at PGA. I'm pretty sure it was Top Gun though. -

Great update! I noticed the photo of GCI's projects is wrong. It lists the Roars in the wrong order, it says SFDK 1998 and SFA 1999. I also find it interesting it lists the old names for Evel Kinevel and Terminator even those was obviously made after they changed the names. I know, just nitpicking... but it is a museum after all, you expect it to be accurate. -

With Hulk, I had heard (and this is again, unconfirmed) that it wasn't that B&M refused to do the launch, they just weren't in a position to deliver a launch system in the time frame Universal was looking for. As that article points out, B&M engineers the crap out of everything they do. They won't do something they aren't comfortable with, and if they didn't have enough time to the launch in a way they were comfortable with, then they weren't going to do it. I think if they downright refused to do a launch, they would have never even made the ride that exists today. Don't forget, enthusiasts have said since Millennium Force opened that B&M refused to ever build a Giga, look how that worked out. They just don't rush into anything like other companies have done; and because of that, we see far less downtime on B&M rides. The tech behind the newer LSMs that we've see crop on rides like Maverick, Superman at SFDK and others is pretty amazing. THey take barely any power compared to LIMs and the old LSMs and they have the ability to launch something pretty damn fast. It would be awesome to see B&M use it now. I think a launched Wing Rider would be pretty bad ass.

^ You are. I'm sure the trains are in a condition that would be relatively cheap to refurbish. Definitely cheaper than buying brand new trains. The thing is, I doubt they would sell just the trains, then they would have a ride with no trains which makes it harder to sell. I'm just dreaming out loud.

^I've always considered it a tumble, which I suppose could be considered a roll depending on how you look at it. Pony Express is one of those rides that, "yeah, sure I'll ride it since there is no line." It's definitely not a, "Only 45 minutes! Let's queue up!" kind of ride. I haven't ridden Manta yet, but just looking at it, I would wait for it at least once. Pony has never received that courtesy from me.

I remember getting into an argument with another coaster enthusiast once about the original Vortex colors. They swore that it had always been purple, yellow and white and kept telling them it was originally green and black. They laughed it off like I knew nothing and I was obviously confusing Vortex with Riddler's Revenge. Every time I see a picture or video of the old colors and makes me smile now. I still don't get why parks who have this violent and painful stand-ups, don't purchase new trains (non-standing) that might breath new life into the ride. I think Vortex would be an awesome little sit down coaster. Fast and intense. Maybe an on board sound system to make it more marketable (Are the old Led Zeppelin trains for sale?).

2012-- What was your highlight?
Double0Kevin replied to Chroniq's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My highlight was going to Orlando for the first time. Got to check out 8 awesome parks. 2nd best was how great Superman at SFDK turned out to be. -

I think it's going to go up quick too! The whole pre-made metal supports should make construction a breeze. -
Underrated Coasters?
Double0Kevin replied to Yero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A ride I've always heard get a lot of grief, but I loved when I rode it, was Desperado. It's not the best ride ever built, but it's definitely a lot fun. -

^ Love the old Dick Dale song. I would love for Disney to do a Limited Time Magic with the old soundtrack. I mean they did that awful "Rockin' Space Mountain" idea (which worked much better on CA Screamin'), so a retro event with a song people loved shouldn't be out of the question. But back to SFMM, I think it's safe to say that almost everything Six Flags has said about Full Throttle is pretty much BS. I'm not even entirely convinced it's made by Premier anymore, or that it's even a roller coaster. Maybe it's just an elaborate joke... YOLO!
