Unknown ride Manufacturer...

I don't think anybody will be able to answer that last one for me, but maybe this one is easier. Anybody know what this thing is called and who made it? -
Favorite Dark Ride
Jetstar2 replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The dark rides I have the fondest memories of in the order in which I first rode them: Dracula's Castle (Lagoon) Adventure Thru Inner Space (DL) Terroride (Lagoon) Haunted Mansion (DL) Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (USJ) Sinbad's Storybook Voyage (DS) -
No effing way! I have stood in front of that thing just wishing it still worked a couple of times now. I'll be there again in a little over a year, I hope so much that it still works. I always understood that it was determined there was a risk of catastrophic failure... so uh.. I hope they fixed that.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
Jetstar2 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I consider myself part of the GP. I've never worked for a park and even if I am successful in making my ideal job of creative director in the amusement industry work out, I'll still consider myself GP. In my mind, bewildering the GP is what theme parks are all about, and I myself love to be bewildered by a park too. A GP who doesn't understand what's going on shows that the park is doing its job well IMO. -
Lagoon, Utah's non-Mormon Amusement Park

Haha, thanks. That's way better than being 100% certain that it's horribly awkward. -
Space World to close after the 2017 season
Jetstar2 replied to larrygator's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow. The very small group of people that had the the front seat on a roller coaster's final ride while the train is engulfed in a fireball is a club I'd like to join, assuming the other members survived. -

Lagoon, Utah's non-Mormon Amusement Park
Jetstar2 replied to Jetstar2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks! I think people are a little put off by the subject and probably by my writing style too, but when you put info out on the internet it clicks in people's minds even if they don't respond. Sometimes people are a actually a bit uneasy about coming to Utah, I just want those people to know they don't need to feel uneasy about visiting Lagoon. -
Usually when I see a trip report about Lagoon I see a few comments linking the park to Mormonism. It’s a fair assumption that there is a link since the park is located in Utah, and there are indeed some links, but I just wanted to share some of the history that paints a different picture. My dad grew up in an area where he could pretty much see Lagoon from his house. But as a kid, he never once visited the park. Instead, he had to travel quite some distance to visit the smaller (now defunct) park known as Saratoga. Why? He grew up in an incredibly Mormon family, and at the time many Mormons knew Lagoon as a den of vice. It was open on Sunday, you could smoke, you could drink, you could gamble, you could see a rock concert (The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane and the Rolling Stones all played there) and there was a reputation for ‘inappropriate’ mingling between sexes. The park’s fun house was equipped with skirt blowers and rides that caused all manners of ‘unintended’ physical contact. The simple reason for this is that the Freed family, who has owned Lagoon since 1945, is Catholic. Saltair, which was originally owned by the Mormon church as well as Saratoga, which was owned by a Mormon family both had policies in place that conformed to Mormon teachings, but Lagoon never did. Funnily, Saltair and Saratoga are long gone and Lagoon is thriving. The park no longer sells alcohol or tobacco. Gambling is out of the question in Utah now. The concert hall was converted to a dark ride and an arcade, and the fun house was removed for insurance reasons, but there are still a couple of signs the park doesn’t conform to Mormon standards. The park’s numerous smoking sections are bright orange with highly visible ‘Sit and Smoke’ signage that makes it look like a pretty fun ride. You can bring in any alcohol you want and drink it freely (no glass bottles though). And the park deliberately markets to the LGBT community to insure they know they are welcome. If you ever visit Lagoon, and you somehow feel out of place, don’t worry, you’re not. Sunday is a good day to visit. Lagoon does have a few Mormon links. There’s a Mormon Furniture exhibit and an original pioneer Mormon church in Pioneer village. These arrived when Lagoon purchased Pioneer Village in 1978 and moved it to the park. The park does have ‘ward days’ which are discount days for members of the Mormon church. They have discount days for other religions too. The park’s kiddieland is one of the biggest in the world. Mormon’s have a lot of kids. It makes sense to do it. That’s about it.

In my interpretation, the Japanese article says the first phase of construction will be finished by 2025. It says it will 'actually' be a third park and not a direct addition to the other two. It says the goal is to attract foreign tourists, and as such, a Japan-like theme is being considered, but plans will not be finalized until May (this doesn't guarantee an announcement will be made then). It also suggests the current parking lots and other areas will be used for the new park, and even has this convenient image showing where some usable parking areas are. While there are numerous possible 'Japan-like' things to theme an attraction around, here's just a few I thought of off-hand: Tanabata (folklore) Kaiten-Zushi (sushi go round!) Shikoku Henro (A Buddhist Pilgrimage) Kabuki (Traditional theater with dark-ride like qualities) Shinkansen (Fast trains!) Miyajima (An Island Shrine... I think they already have something at Epcot) and of course... Anime... meh I don't know how much this would appeal to Japanese People, but I want to go. -

To be fair, I wasn't specifically told it was this model, I was told it was a "cross between Rattlesnake Rapids and Log Flume". I noticed that ART Engineering (who manufactured trains for Bombora, Cannibal and Wonder Mountain's Guardian) makes a ride that fits this description and I put 2 and 2 together. But the person who told me this later said they think it's actually going to be a coaster and up until the post just above I haven't had anyone who might know things acknowledge the water ride rumor as a real possibility. Then again, the fact that nobody wants to talk to me about it may give it more credibility. If it is a longer version of what's pictured, in a mountain, creating a nice long dark ride, I am completely happy with that. I love water based dark rides. A dinosaur themed dark ride has actually topped my list of what I think Lagoon needs for a couple of years now. Lagoon has so many flat rides that I think they should focus on coasters and dark rides every few years instead of a new flat every year. I do however want to see them get a giant frisbee. -

Cannibal's budget was $22 Million, and it ended up costing several million more than that. From what I've seen it gave the park a big attendance boost over the last three seasons. I don't really know the numbers, but the park may be thinking that big investments will pay off, especially if they can keep them within budget. Traditionally they have added a new ride every year, but we didn't get one in 2016 and aren't expecting one in 2018, so they may be be shifting to a bigger but less frequent new ride frame of mind. Lagoon likes to not announce rides until after they open, but we're expecting construction throughout 2018 to give us a pretty good idea of what's going on. Lagoon was still denying they were building anything when the first pieces of Cannibal's track were installed and visible to guests. -

The original rumor was that it would be a mostly indoor, interactive, in-house, dark ride coaster built in an artificial mountain, something like Wonder Mountain's Guardian. Later I heard that the interactive feature they were testing involved shooting actual physical balls from the train and that didn't work out, so the plan had changed. Since then I've heard that it would be: 1. ART Rapids Flume (not a coaster) 2. GCI Woodie 3. B&M 4. So intense it will make Cannibal look like a kiddie ride. Each of these claims has come from somebody connected to the park in some way, so take your pick. I have no idea anymore. Some people might say it will definitely be in-house because Lagoon has proven they can do it. I think it's possible that Lagoon learned how difficult and budget overrunny in-house coasters can be with Cannibal and might look at other options. I have a feeling some people who will see this know something more but don't feel like sharing. I say, tell us what you think/know. The earth will continue to spin and everything will be fine. The worst thing that's going to happen is that some people outside of Utah may show some interest in Lagoon (maybe). *edit: Or tell me what you think/know and I'll pass it on without revealing your identity. -

Something is is beginning to happen at Lagoon. Hydro Luge is being dismantled and it looks like a high-voltage line is being installed leading to its location. This is the location that was predicted for the rumored 2019(ish) 'Primordial' coaster. These pix and more at: http://www.lagoonisfun.com/showthread.php?tid=5729&pid=75854#pid75854 -

Riding Jet Star 2 is a generally unpleasant experience. It was somewhat better long ago when single riders were allowed, decreasing crotch and potential head contact with other riders. It's got a cool name though. My previous report that Roller Coaster's station roof had been removed was incorrect, but I still hear it's getting new trains. -

The roof of Roller Coaster's station has been removed. It's believed this has been done so cranes can access the track for various changes needed for the new trains. Although I originally had heard that the new trains would be coming from ART Engineering, a lot of people seem to think they will be Millennium Flyers. I also heard at one point that the turn between the station and the lift hill has such a tight radius that it may need to be redesigned to support Millennium Flyers. -

Sorry, I was trying to be subtle as it seems to be a hush hush kind of thing, but to hell with it. The manufacturer I heard mentioned is the same one that supplied the trains for Cannibal and Bombora, ART Engineering. -

I heard a rumor, from somebody who knows stuff, that Lagoon is getting new trains for Roller Coaster as early as next year. They may be a brand new model of woodie train from a manufacturer who has previously only dealt in steel coaster trains... -
