  1. There's no reason to believe that it will be open and there's no reason to believe that it won't be open. Bummer indeed.
  2. Also, this testing video from today was posted on the LiF forum:
  3. They built a one-way gate to corral guests in the entrance area. They put a big mural in the station that looks like it has flaming skulls on it. They put in a permanent stairway to the control booth. They put up some nets to catch cell phones/dropped items. Looking like it could open any time, but hasn't yet.
  4. The waterfall looks great! Too bad you can't see it in from anywhere inside the park and you can't ride Cannibal either. Unfortunately the ride will not open this weekend.
  5. Well the park has a marketing department. I'm not sure that the park is concerned with public relations beyond that. They never say anything about anything aside from offering discounts/specials and whatnot. I guess they're somewhat improving on it this year as they are now saying things on facebook from time to time. I'm guessing that they won't announce the opening date until just before to prevent people from postponing any plans to come earlier. I thought they might have announced on Monday that it would open Friday as the park wouldn't be open to the public between then, but they actually announced that the park would be open to the public Wednesday unscheduled. So just maybe they'll announce Thursday that it will open Friday.
  6. No, I mean that Roller Coaster's "new" lapbars suck compared to the old ones. I know it's been a long time, but I still remember how disappointed I was when they changed them. The stupid boxy divider and the stupid part of the lapbar that doesn't fit the 90 degree profile of the rest of the bar suck. That's how I felt about it when I was 12, so that's probably how I will always feel.
  7. While I don't care about the single rider policy, I care about this. I don't fault the park, they haven't been misleading about it, and I know they have their reasons. It still sucks.
  8. It should be noted that the events linearinduction mentions both took place 26 years ago. At that time, the person I assume he's talking about was working for Arrow Dynamics. Well, I guess the next time you guys are a Manager of an Amusement Park and are first on the scene to see the body of a dead little boy who took a 2" wide Brake Fin to the Back of the Head, where it exploded, and the Mangled body of a 15 Year Old Girl, who were riding alone in the back row, you guys can tell me what you would do instead, but I doubt that's going to happen. You would also be surprised just how accurate Witnesses CAN be, as they have been very helpful in other smaller incidents. It's also EXTREMELY Simple, the Two Persons who ride in the Front Row can see the Track, and the Two Persons who ride in the Back Row can see the Entire Train. Also, keep in mind, Lagoon has THE Top Industry Safety Expert on Payroll. Those people were both single riders who fell from the back seat. I can see the logic in requiring 2 riders in the back seat based on those events and calling it a safety precaution. As I just said, the policy of requiring two in the front seat only seeks to provide witnesses in the very unfortunate event that it happens again. If THE top safety expert in the country doesn't understand the difference between actual safety precautions and issues of litigation, then I am very concerned. From my view, there was no big deal made here until the topic of children's heads exploding was raised. People who aren't familiar with the park were asking for clarification, and I was providing it. I don't care about the policy itself at all. I just think that calling something a safety precaution that doesn't aim to actually make anybody safer in any way builds distrust, as lies often do.
  9. Cannibal has laptrays with metal bars on them and leg cuffs. The restraints are very similar but not identical to those on Wicked (and Impulse). I saw them (from a distance) with my own eyes over Memorial day weekend. If there was any redesign, it was just reshaping of the laptrays and/or seats. This past week has seen the installation of signage, a one way gate to direct the flow of guests, a mural in the ride's station, replacement of the temporary access to the control panel with a permanent structure, and apparent time-lapse filming of the sun moving across the ride (assumed to be for an upcoming commercial). Everything visible that seems to need finishing has either been finished, or is being worked on. I wouldn't be surprised if the park announces later today that it'll open Friday when the park begins weekday operation. I also wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. The park has said almost nothing since they announced the ride in September.
  10. It's a rumor that's been thrown out on the LiF forum once or twice. You might be wise to doubt it. It's something that may or may not be true. If it is true the redesign was not nearly as radical as you are thinking. Cannibal most certainly still doesn't have OTSR's.
  11. The park is silent, but it was noted that a new train was uncrated on Thursday, and there may still be as many as 2 more to be delivered. There was a rumor that the park was not satisfied with the restraints and they were re-designed (as well as countless other rumors). I have no idea if it's true but it would explain the highly delayed arrival of trains and the seat that was removed from a test train and sent to the "padding manufacturer for sculpting" or something like that according to the park's Facebook page. There's also a small decorative fence in front of the station that's bent, so maybe it's because of that.
  12. Yes, you are, but they wouldn't want to spell it out for you. It's in case the train hits a person who is not on the ride but near the track. To call a policy that aims to insure that at least two people have a front-row seat to any such event a "safety precaution" is ridiculous IMO. Nobody is safer for having witnessed that.
  13. It was on today. It's a brake. I could see it and hear it. Lots of little finishing touches have been done, and there was a lot of activity all over the area.
  14. Colossus: The Fire Dragon. Rode it yesterday, front seat in the rain is somewhat painful to the face.
  15. Yesterday, Lagoon responded to a comment on facebook by saying: "Soon" is something the park hasn't said in relation to Cannibal before. Based on this and something non-specific that I heard from one of Lagoon's landscapers, I'm hopeful that it will open next weekend.
  16. Are you consulting Wikipedia for info about Lagoon? I'd suggest using the Lagoon is Fun Wiki instead. Lagoon actually opened in 1896. Lake Park opened in 1886.
  17. And I don't get why some people try to equate the totally accurate statement "Lagoon isn't saying anything" with "Lagoon should tell me every time they tighten a bolt, and they should abandon safety while they're at it". Lagoon isn't saying anything and it annoys me (as well as many other people). They are free to keep quiet, and I am free to think it's annoying.
  18. Many people over at Lagoon is Fun suspect it will open in June, because that's when Lagoon's rides tend to open. Lagoon is well known for refusing to say anything. If we couldn't see this coaster we still wouldn't know almost anything about it. Lagoon employees have been reminded not to share details, and the employees are listening. Based on observation, it may be delayed because of late train arrival and continuing construction on themed elements (like the pool/pump house for the waterfall) Lagoon opened Wicked without announcing it first. They could do the same with Cannibal to prevent it from possibly having problems on its announced opening date. I suspect we'll hear nothing more until the day it opens.
  19. This is correct, you won't be riding in the front row, and you won't be riding the Jet Star 2 at all if you can't find somebody to ride with you. There was some talk of lagoonisfun.com putting together an "ambassador" program for those who are visiting and looking for ride partners. I've got a season pass and am willing to meet people and ride with them (on days I'm available) provided they don't mind me hitting the Sit & Smoke Station (smoking sections) pretty frequently.
  20. If I was flying into Utah to ride Cannibal (assuming I wasn't arriving or departing on a Sunday), I'd take the Trax Light Rail Green Line from the airport terminal to the North Temple station, then take the escalator down to the FrontRunner commuter rail station, and take that to the Farmington station. Then I'd stay at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Farmington that is basically across the street from Lagoon (though not across the street from the entrance). I'd use the Free UTA Lagoon Shuttle as my main transportation between the park, the hotel, the train station and the Station Park development where there's a grocery store and a bunch of other shops (even an Apple store). I'd buy my food at the grocery store and take it into the park in a cooler like everybody else does. Oh, and if my budget didn't allow for the Hampton Inn, I might just bring a tent and stay at Lagoon's campground and get an admission discount.
  21. Actually they did cars for Bombora, Wonder Mountain, Iron Reef and Cannibal. Yep.
  22. The micro-brew scene is still thriving here, but the red light district and opium dens were done away with long, long ago.
  23. My great, great, great grandpa scribed the revelation by Joseph Smith on plural marriage. They don't do that anymore. Mormons are just like any other people. There's some good and some bad in everybody. However, having grown up in Utah I can say I'm no fan of the church itself, It acts like it owns the state. Hasa Diga Eebowai.
  24. Much of the known info about Cannibal from the Lagoon is Fun forum has been compiled into the LiF wiki Cannibal page. Check it out, it has a ton of info.
  25. I bet the park will put some kind of images/video on their facebook page. They can't really keep the trains under wraps any longer if they're testing them.
