Cedar Fair Tests VR at Canada's Wondelrand!
RaceBoarder replied to TB305's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'll be 100% honest in admitting that I'd probably enjoy watching someone strangle themselves with their headset But for everthing else mentioned, I agree that it would kill the ride experience... Not worth the trouble... -

No one here is denying that downtime is part of normal operation of a park... Intamin has left an impression of having significantly more downtime than other manufacturers however... I would be really curious to see a legit comparison of downtime between different rides to see who is king of that department... -
Great pics! Love how you captured Halloweekends Question on the Troika shot: How were you able to capture the "light streaks" while keeping the foreground/background in focus? In my very amateur photo mind, it seems like you would need a longer exposure to get the shot of the ride, but the person in the foreground would need to be motionless for the length of the exposure to get the clarity you got on them... Was this just a case of a high ISO setting and quick shutter speed?

Impact of a bad visit
RaceBoarder replied to JFrombaugh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I should mention that this is true for me also. Bad things can happen anywhere... theme parks, movie theaters, shopping malls, etc, and sometimes it's not always an employees fault, etc, just circumstance, so for the most part, I'm VERY tolerant when it comes to minor annoyances. But when it's clearly a park-wide issue that comes from upper management, like our experience at Six Flags Great America, then that's when I most certainly cannot give the park a "pass" until something is done to fix things. I understand your frustrations with SFGAm Robb. At the same time, however, I wish you would take a step back with it... And that is because of the power/influence you have with social media... I get that last summer you had a horrible day at SFGAm... What that has evolved to on social media is very "GP-like" however... What I mean by that is that there are people who have never been to the park or who make it there once every couple of years who use your experience and make it seem like an everyday experience when commenting.... I'm sorry, but some random 17 year old kid in Jersey who's never been here shouldn't be holding your experience against the park... It's gone viral how SFGAm's operations are the world's worst... As it being my home park, I would say that operations are "mid-pack" in the grand scheme of things... Not squeaky clean like Disney supposedly is (full disclosure: Never been and don't plan on going in the near future) and no where near killing people on a daily basis either like Mt. Olympus (see disclosure above)... So I don't comment on them... But others do... And there in lies the problem... We like to comment on stuff the GP does here on TPR, but with this, I feel that "enthusiasts" are a mirror image of the GP. I'm not trying to invalidate your experience at all... But I do feel that my park has suffered tremendously because of a lone incident... And the incident involved people that 99% of people on TPR will never deal with on a visit to the park... As someone with a degree in Sports/Entertainment Promotions and Marketing, I can see how your experience was a negative one... And a valid one... But that is for you, and you only... No one else should be holding that over our head... Sorry for the derailment there... Just something that bugs me... As a relatively new "enthusiast", I have quickly learned that I have to take everything I read on sites like TPR with a spoonful of salt when I look to apply it to my endeavors... Some opinions are fully justified, but many are not... Add in that it's my home park, and you can easily figure why I'm bugged -
Wooden Roller Coaster Worries
RaceBoarder replied to LaRondeQC's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Large structures like that can have a ton of "flexibility" designed into them... As mentioned, it's to dissipate energy and reduce stress... No different than a tall skyscraper like the Empire State Building or Sears Tower swaying in the wind... -

Would anyone happen to recall what kind of offseason deals CP offered last year? I seem to remember them offering a free Fast Lane (FL Plus?) for each guest that stayed at an onsite property for May/June if it was booked in the offseason... Anyone remember if this included weekends or was it weekdays only? Also what timeframe was the deal offered? Just thinking ahead to 2016... Looking at doing a CP/KI segment of a trip with Sat/Sun at CP and Mon. at KI... this would be May or the 1st half of June... Saving $ is always a plus whenever possible... -
I don't get the whole theming argument... Never saw SFGAm as a "theme park" in the least.... It's always been viewed as a "thrill" park by me my whole life, so I have to believe the GP views it the same... Been that way for 20+ years... Why spend more money to make less? Theming will not increase overall revenue, IMO... Why should management bother?

Favorite Outdoor Activities (Besides Coaster Riding)

I'll spend about 100-125 days/year fishing and 50-60 (used to also be 100+) days snowboarding/skiing... I might have an "outside" problem -
Screamscape announced several days back that SFFT is planning to get rid of one of its major rides, but did not name the ride, saying it is only near the boardwalk, so that is where it started. I just don't see our park taking on a 16-year-old coaster. We tend to be leaders in getting trendy new rides, not accepting old ones. I also still don't think Poltergeist would fit neatly in the SWA spot, with Demon and Raging Bull so close to it, even with the Photoshop job showing it there. I don't get the idea of tearing down the SWA though... If we are getting a dark ride, use Pictorium instead of building new... That would save a nice chink of change I imagine... Also still gives you the chance to build on SWA's land down the road... The park has about 95% of their usable land in use right now... It's quite the rare commodity, especially if they aren't going to be tearing down older attractions like Demon or Eagle to expand... Those are the two most mentioned plots, but neither is going anywhere in the foreseeable future....

See, y'all are forgetting the most important factor: None of the stuff mentioned doesn't mean a damn thing unless you carry the 2!!! -

I think the trailer got a flat tire... They are just bringing in another trailer to take the track up to Canada's Wonderland... Got to put the track somewhere while the new trailer is on the way -

Just some rust colored pieces of metal that may or may not be going to a theme park in Ohio... No biggie -
