  1. Skiing/Snowboarding does indeed offer some of the same sensations that we all love feeling while on our thrill rides... That is one of the exact reasons I love running SnowboardCross so much... On a good SBX course you will have High-G turns, Airtime (ejector air is possible if your timing is off on certain elements... Don't ask how I know ), massive gravitational acceleration, and several other awesome feelings while running a course... Just be aware that this is something that will come over time... Obviously you won't be flying down the hill at 30+ mph on your first day... But as you learn, you will feel the accelerations and they will be great... If you can get into it, take up ski/snowboard racing... You won't look back once you do...
  2. Given that SFGAm was giving away season passes for the same price as a single visit, why not get a season pass? If it's crowded, I can ditch the park without hesitation and all I am out is the gas I used to get to the park... I can also just head up on a whim if it's a case where most of the Chicago area is getting drenched, but there isn't a drop up at SFGAm...
  3. Like many others, I'm an avid snowboarder.... This will be my 21st season on a board and 8th working as a snowboard instructor at a snow covered speed bump here in the Chicago area... With places like Ski Brule starting to make significant snow as of today, I should be able to get out within 1-2 weeks here... Regular outings usually start around the 1st week of December for me and take me all over the Midwest... I also got hockey season to get me through the offseason as well... I usually make 2-3 trips/year to see my alma mater, Northern Michigan University, take on whomever... May have to make a run to Mall of America when I'm in town for the WCHA Final Five in March... Love going to Hawks games here in Chicago, although the current amount of bandwagon fans has pushed ticket prices through the roof, so that usually only happens 3-5 times/season now.... Overall, it's enough to keep me busy
  4. Hrm... According to the RCDB page, that coaster in the 1st video was supposed to come to the US
  5. When I head into a park, I take the following: - Phone - Wallet - Keys (if driving. Left in car if someone else drove) - Zip-loc bag w/ Insulin, syringes, and snacks - Extra zip-loc bags if water rides are an option - Baseball cap Everything can fit into my pockets, so no need for a Lock-her...
  6. We did have snow roll through the area around 7:30-8am this morning... Winds are still blowing 20+mph... It should be dead... Weather isn't your friend for sure tonight... Gonna give the park a go tomorrow night or Sunday... No one has a Flash Pass voucher they are willing to sell on the cheap would they
  7. Also, I'm not sure how old many of you that are Chicago locals are, but the Chicago area has lost several parks in the last 20 years... The aforementioned Santa's Village closed and reopened several times... We lost KiddieLand in Maywood as well... I wouldn't hold out hope that something new is coming around anytime soon...
  8. Does anyone know where SFGAm ranks among other Six Flags parks as far as total attendance goes? I'd be curious since it seems like they made significant cutbacks in hours for this season.... Also, I think alot of the attendance is because SFGAm seems to have a very good Group Sales department... Look on Craigslist Chicago during the Summer... There is a plethora of SFGAm tickets for sale that came from _______ Company Day that someone can't attend... Back in July Lettuce Entertain You (a major restaurant group in the Chicago area) brought several thousand people to the park for a day from their group alone... I ended up buying a pair of "Thrill Pass" vouchers off someone on Craigslist that day for $20 each... As a buyer, I had a tremendous advantage since there were several people trying to unload tickets for this single day event...
  9. I don't understand the hate towards Raging Bull either... Is it a "Top Ten" overall coaster? Probably not... But it's an enjoyable experience....
  10. I think that we moved onto bigger and better things with coasters by the time that B&M got their ducks in a row... Look at what the early 2000s brought us in coasters... Simply standing while on a coaster just wasn't appealing by itself and wouldn't grab headlines... By that point in time, we were going 100mph and over 300 feet tall...
  11. Only thing set in stone for me is SFGAm since it's my home park... Also going to be the first time I've purchased a season pass to any park... So probably means I won't make it there once I'd really like to get out and about around the Midwest.... Problem is working out trip logistics with friends... It always seems to come up about going to a park, but no one ever has time off from work or cash to do so Parks on the "possible" list are: - Six Flags St. Louis (covered on my SFGAm pass) - Cedar Point (no brainer) - Kings Island (solid coaster line up. Wouldn't mind taking in a Reds game along the way) - Holiday World (add-on to a KI trip. Thunderbird has me sold, but would have to convince others since I guarantee they have never heard of the place) Hoping for anything else is a poke and a prayer in all honesty...
  12. Well, he did stay at a Holiday Inn Express while visiting Cedar Point
  13. Where exactly are you staying? The 40 mile range does put you in the area of O'hare, and I would imagine that most rental car operations there would be open 7 days a week... That would also make using public transport an easy option to get there initially as well... Unfortunately, Gurnee isn't the easiest place to get to via Metra (trains) or PACE (busses)
  14. I can see this making the park money, for sure... At $20 a rider, it's an amount that will quickly add up during peak times... This is something that seems to be geared to the General Public though.... A Regular Flash Pass is $55... If you are going to do the one time, you may as well just get the Flash Pass and use it for the entire day... But they know they GP is dumb enough to do it, so it will be here to stay...
  15. You're probably right. People have extreme swings in preferences every season based on announcements and stuff. Ridiculous and immature. I, however, have always enjoyed the stand-up experience. I'm a local to the best of the stand-ups, in my opinion... Georgia Scorcher. Hard to not be mean about this, but people are just babies and idiots who complain about the seats. Just ever-so-slightly bend the knees right before they lock the seat height, and you've got a couple inches of 'play,' with no contact with the OTSR or the bicycle seat. It's really not that hard. People are just divas about stupid crap. I have to agree with this statement... I don't understand the hate on stand-ups... I enjoyed Iron Wolf at SFGAm and enjoyed Mantis even more... I learned this exact strategy very quickly with Iron Wolf... I don't have the hundreds of credits that others do, but from my experience, stand ups are far from the worst options out there...
  16. Honestly, can't remember if it was Iron Wolf or Batman: The Ride at Six Flags Great America... Can't remember what order I went on things that day This would have been back in 1994 or 95.... Either way, just dove into roller coasters head first that day, riding everything that SFGAm had to offer at the time...
