Today's Burning Question!
StuckInSD replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
... I'm much more of a nerd for Disney stuff than I am for Cedar Fair & Peanuts cartoons, so my choice is WDW. Though I'd love to visit both! -
SoCal represent... even though my life-long dream is to visit all of Florida's parks. The way I look at it, each region has its own strengths, and one does things better than the other. It's pretty safe to say SWO is better than SWSD in both coaster count and size (not to mention a waterpark that ISN'T 15 miles away in the middle of a ghetto... also dolphin petting), and USO just has more to offer than USH (even with USH's future expansions). But what surprises me is how split people are between DLR and WDW; I thought there would be an overwhelming majority siding with WDW, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Heck, all of you guys will agree that TDR is much more superior than the other two, and there's only 2 parks over there as well (btw, I choose Disneyland, for the moment). I also prefer Knott's over BGT, but that's just personal taste. I'll argue anyone to death as to why I prefer Legoland Cali over Legoland Flori (2 neighborly hotels, Knight's Tournament, a lot closer to the beach & In-N-Out, everything was built from the ground up, SeaLife Aquarium). Now that I think about it, both Legolands are in awkward places, sorta in-between the major parks. Guess you'll at least see another credit opportunity between LA and SD/OR and TB. As for Magic Mountain... okay, it isn't all that great. BUT, it's still 18 credits in one place (19 once TC opens), and while there are some noticeable rotten eggs (Scream's location, Revolution's OTSRs, Green Lantern... for some reason; I actually think it's decent once you get flipping), there's still some really good coasters (Superman, Apocalypse on a good day, Tatsu, YOLO) and arguably some are the best in their class (X2, Ninja, Riddly-Diddly... not really a lot of competition for that one). So when ride ops, food, and overall atmosphere disappoint, just remember that you can literally get 18 (soon to be 19) coasters done in one day. And when the big parks get too pricey, there's tons of small ones, such as Belmont Park, Pacific Park, Castle Park, Scandia and Adventure City. Don't forget about the SD Zoo, Safari Park, LA Zoo and the millions of other tourist traps that are also down here. This probably won't change anything, but that's my opinion on the matter. Central Florida has great parks and quality, but SoCal ain't as bad as people make it out to be. If it isn't on par with Central Florida, it isn't far behind.

Unusual flat ride
StuckInSD replied to tanthonyam's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That was made in-house by Adventure Island. They've made quite a few other flats as well, including Fireball and a majority of their children's rides. -

Now they need to get a deal going with Angry Birds and make an interactive SlingShot. -
What do YOU take with you to a park?
StuckInSD replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
- Two sets of keys (in-case I accidentally lock one of them in the car) - Wallet w/ small bills - Change of clothes (next time, will include socks) - Some form of hat/sunglasses - Cellphone on full charge - 2-3 bottles of water (if allowed) - Spray-on sunscreen... that I always forget in the car - On rare occasion, a camera I do prepare, but I am not always "prepared"... mentally. -
new Vekoma product: "Single Car Launch Coaster"
StuckInSD replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sorta looks like a cross between GT Challenge and a Formula PAX, so that should be fun . I would not be surprised at all to see this at some Ferrari park in the future. -
Announcing "Skyline Attractions"
StuckInSD replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It sure is a neat concept. Definitely could see this at carnivals and family fun centers, but at a park? Seems a bit too small for that. I'd like to see if they could do an actual striker variant, with the large hammers and a one-and-done kind of deal. That would be a real test of strength, just like the actual thing. -
Your drama queen theme park "tearjerker"
StuckInSD replied to MisterP's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Passing by the first park with my first credit, Fraiser's Frontier, always gets me. Ever since the park got flooded, it's been abandoned and left to decay. Seeing all of the old rides just rotting away is really saddening. It was so lively and colorful long ago... -
... coming from the guy in the state that has Desperado and Manhattan Express. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they advertised TC with #ColossalSwag or a montage of selfies when it gets close to opening. Or if some person gets a slight headache after riding and then sues the park. I hate living in SoCal sometimes...

I'd love to see one around my SeaWorld. It's compact enough to fit almost anywhere, and SeaWorld needs a BIG thrill. Don't get me wrong, Manta is awesome, but it's still pretty small in comparison to what the other two parks got. Plus, there's only so much Journey to Atlantis, Wild 90's Throwback and Gilligan's Island: The Ride can do. San Antonio and Orlando got their big coasters, so why not San Diego?

I disagree. I think Corkscrew is more likely, given its age. Plus the land Excalibur sits on isn't really ideal for construction. However Arrows everywhere are in the high risk category, IMO, so who knows. We'll just have to wait and see. I actually think Arrow coasters are better off than others. Many of them are still around and are still popular. Plus, with S&S, as hit-and-miss as they are, which bought some of Arrow's assets, parks can call them up for replacement trains and adjustments to their beloved capacity monsters. As it goes for coasters around here... Ninja would be most likely to go. Or maybe Apocalypse, since nothing seems to last that long in that corner of the park.

^ Christ, if they don't pick Arendelle as the new port of call, I might have a heart attack. -
... so they still get 1/2 off ticket prices, yet they sue anyways. I'm getting flashbacks to Disneyland and its wheelchair debacle. People got to realize that SeaWorld is a business, not your pal. These people suing think they're getting "unfair treatment" despite the fact that SeaWorld is still going the extra mile to accommodate them. The Americans with Disabilities Act ensures ethical, EQUAL treatment to those with mental and physical ailments. If they really want to be treated equally, then they ought to pay for themselves. Just because your free ticket deal is in shambles, that doesn't mean its a personal attack on your personal freedoms; you're just cheap.

Bland Parks
StuckInSD replied to ScreaminNewEngland's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've actually felt like this at Disneyland. Although, we got there 2 hours later than I thought, and the park was literally at its busiest. We couldn't even get a ride on It's a Small World because there was an hour-long wait- and that was the shortest line. The only saving grace I had was my friend's goofiness keeping everyone entertained while we waited 2 hours for PoTC. -
Top 3 Roller Coasters From Your Birth Year
StuckInSD replied to YOLO's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Huh. 1994 was a really productive year for coasters. Also just realized someone else just did that year. Oh well. 1. Nemesis (Alton Towers)- Definitely the stand-out. And I still consider it one of the best inverts out there. 2. TOGO Ultratwisters (Japan)- Probably the only good thing to ever come out of TOGO. There's even a rainbow-colored one! 3. Comet (Great Escape) & Raptor (Cedar Point)- ... because everything else is either a clone, meh, or absolute crap. Three Batman clones, two Hurlers, Corkscrew, Pepsi Max Big One, Desperado, Hoosier Hurricane, White Cyclone (and its evil brother White Canyon), Zach's Zoomer, Schweizer Bobbahn, Shockwave (Drayton) and the world's worst SLC (Condor @ Walibi) also came out in '94. -
Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread
StuckInSD replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
With SkyRider's removal, they got a lot of open space in the middle of the park, so they have a lot of options with what they could build. I'd be really excited if they were the first to try out Vekoma's mega looping coaster concept, but that's just being optimistic. A good launched coaster would also do well, making up for what Back Lot Stunt Coaster lacks. It's actually quite surprising how many coasters CW has gotten since being bought by Cedar Fair (2 large giga coasters and WMG, if we consider it a coaster). With the removal of SkyRider, they're back down to 16 coasters... which is as much coasters as Cedar Point has. Either CF has really big plans for CW, or they just love having a property in Canada that's 10x than whatever Six Flags has up there. -
Bad coasters that have a glimmer of hope
StuckInSD replied to fraroc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Scream! sits on a parking lot... which is the one major thing holding this otherwise pretty good (nothing great, mind you) coaster. If they seriously just painted over the parking spaces with some sort of abstract design, that would make Scream! infinitely better. Give it some proper maintenance and a fresh coat of paint, and it could really be a stand-out ride in Magic Mountain's lineup. -
They could theme a ride with that ride system to The Black Cauldron and it'll still be great. If they really are gonna take a DCA approach to DHS, then it's gonna be awesome regardless of what they do. I'm all in for rides based on Pixar and WDAS' most recent films. Heck, I'd kill for anything based on the old films too! They could even come up with a completely new property that I'm sure would win most people over. Regardless of what happens, I'm sure DHS is in for something BIG. It does make me wonder how they'll deal with The Great Movie Ride, though. I honestly think they'll either completely gut out the attraction or just bulldoze it down for something new. With all the different mergers and acquisitions that have happened in the 25 years the ride has been open, it wouldn't make sense for them to keep it around as it currently stands. Plus, with all of their own branches and mergers, they could come up with something much better.
