The "Pleasant/Unpleasant Surprise" Thread
hey...hey replied to cfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Agree with Maverick and Possessed. I wanted to like both of them too. On Maverick, I also felt it was extremely painful. On Possessed, I like the straight up side, but the brake put a little "hurtin" on the family jewels. As for Fahrenheit, I love the ride, but I noticed a little rattle the last time I rode it. -

^I agree...however, I do like the blue on this compared to the red on T3. -

What is your favorite Roller Coaster?
hey...hey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Quite the B&M fan I see. Do like the Hulk. The other two I have yet to ride, that might change next year though. -
Stand-Up coasters= A failed concept?
hey...hey replied to fraroc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would not say a failed concept...just a fad on a long list (Hypersonic XLC, Son of Beast, etc). This one had just lasted a good while. -
Weird Chinese Coasters

^So I guess I was right with the unbanked turn after the loop to the corkscrews...that make me sick just looking at it again. -
Weird Chinese Coasters
hey...hey replied to GigaG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hold up folks, I might be seeing something. It looks like the non-banked turn leads to the lift and also comes from the corkscrews. It is kind of hard to see from that angle. -
Weird Chinese Coasters
hey...hey replied to GigaG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The second one is really messed. From the back to back loops that sort of look like a batwing with a different entrance and exit. To the non-banked turn after the loops, and then the weird corkscrews. I am just glad the engineers are a little better with the mainstream companies (Arrow, B&M, etc) -

Guess this Coaster! (By the Layout)
hey...hey replied to tarheel1231's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Thunder Run is a very good guess...was thinking that one right off the bat. -
I look at this post and think of something that should have never been built, or have had problems from day one, for example Drachen Fire. Loved the coaster, just a little bit of poor execution from Arrow, or maybe just a bit out of their league at the time. However, I see a lot of GWAZI references on this page. And if it would have been properly maintained, it could have been better. That to me falls into a new category of attractions that have gone into disrepair, not a mistake from day one...but that is just me.

What do YOU take with you to a park?
hey...hey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Ditto. If it can't fit in my cargo shorts, I am not taking it. So that usually is just the phone, my wallet and keys. -
Nice trip report. Man I miss some Earl of Sandwich...my wife and I love their holiday sandwich. Thankfully they put it on the menu year round.

Loved some of those rides. 20,000 leagues is still one of my favorite rides of WDW. Made a shirt up for it, and wear it every time I go to the MK. BBW also holds a place in my heart. Will never get over the fact that it is just not there anymore.

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

Agree! Their camera setup is 10x better than Fury325 looking all the way down from the tower. Holiday World's cameras are up close and changing to give the serious enthusiasts the best view. -

Top 3 Roller Coasters From Your Birth Year
hey...hey replied to YOLO's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1979 The only two worth mentioning were Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disneyland and "Beast" at KI. Honorable mention being Jr Gemini. Other than that, it was a big year for Schwarzkopf and it seemed everyone got a corkscrew coaster that year as well. Out of the 35 coasters built that year, only 13 remain operating with one SBNO. However, there was a nice TOGO standup and sitdown coaster built. -

^Totally understand where you are coming from. It is all what you want out of life and how you live...to each there own. When my wife and kid are around, I will stay and watch whatever parade is going on and usually have a descent time at Disney. However, when I am by myself at a park (Dorney Park this year), I usually just jump from one coaster to the next...and maybe a flat between. -

^My trip next year will most likely be with my best friend, but will still be expensive. With fuel, food and hotel, the cost adds up quick. And with me driving my diesel to all those places getting around 17-18mpg, it gets even more expensive. A fast week plus trip to CP, KI, HW and KK, Dollywood, Carowinds, and KD is going to cost about 450 in fuel, a grand in hotels, and around 400 in tickets. And that doesn't include food or FastPass (if need be). I totally understand. -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
hey...hey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't know about you guys, but I would have been 9 1/2 at the time Magnum opened, so anything is possible. Plus, I don't know your guys' background. As for my choice, I would go with either option 2 or 3. Like the above reader mentioned, you could make the trip to Cedar Point into a mini-cation for option 2. As for option 3, Hershey is a top tier individual ran park. It has a great variety of coasters and a great atmosphere. Plus SFGAdv has a great line up as well. Option 1 has some good coasters, but the rides fall off after that. Don't get me wrong, KD and BGW are great and close for me, but after I305, Volcano, and Dominator, KD falls off a little. In BGW's case, there isn't too many flats after the pretty good coaster lineup. -

That has to be around 10-12 hours, or something like that. But you could stop at some other parks on the way there or back (KK, HW, Dollywood).
