  1. Holy Crap. Best answer ever. You made a video! Thank you! I've detested this park's walking layout since I first went there, it looks like Busch Blvd and the supply road into the brewery really limited where they could put everything. Still doesn't explain some non-connections like Scorpion>Sheikra or Gwazi>Nairobi.
  2. ^If you haven't ridden I305, then you don't need to wait until 2016. It's not my number 1, but it is quite staggering, and they're probably not building anything bigger than that one at KD in the near future.
  3. Does anyone have a link to some good historical pictures of the Gwazi area? Wasn't the brewery there? How did the park evolve to have such a huge area smack in the middle of the park for Gwazi and now future expansion?
  4. MK and Epcot have the same closing time that night. Finish with the park that has the fireworks show you want to see more. Again, while the first bus from Epcot to DAK at 815 might be annoying (call and check they have one at that time), the mid-afternoon bus directly from DAK main entrance to MK main entrance will be easier than: DAK parking tram to your car, drive to epcot, walk to epcot monorail station, take first monorail to TTC, take second monorail to MK entrance. That's one step in the middle of the day vs five. Oh and plus one for Diagon Alley at night. Its getting dark here now about six so you would have one hour to see the pretty lights.
  5. Question 1: There's more "non Potter" stuff to do than Potter stuff, in the end. You will probably have time to see all the magic in one day and get some rides on the coasters. Two days is plenty to see all of Universal in early February, however you move about the parks. No stress. Don't miss Disaster or Twister, as these two are likely to be removed before you swing by again. Despicable Me is the best single attraction to ride at opening, always generates long waits with no single rider line. Beware that the Toon Lagoon water rides are WET, and many universal attractions require free l o c ker usage so pack accordingly. If you see one traditional show...make it the Horror Make Up Show. http://www.orlandoinformer.com/ has every Universal-specific tip in the book. Question 2: You can do that, but I'd recommend arriving maybe 15 minutes earlier than 8:30 to catch a bus to Animal Kingdom, they can be absent (and I don't know for positive if they run before each park opens, you could call Disney and ask). Bus from DAK to MK would be more efficient than driving your car from DAK to another parking lot, then taking a monorail or two, so that's the big benefit of your circular plan. DAK has resort-early access that day so Everest and Kilamanjaro might already have a small wait, but the better choice is to reserve your Fastpasses in advance for Magic Kingdom which you will be at in the middle of the day. Be Our Guest accepts walk-ins for lunch around 2 pm. Seven Dwarves coaster will be at least an hour without fastpass.
  6. FTFY This is the first year in a LONG time where there are new rides being built that look like they could be the best in the world with Fury 325, The Intamin Mega and the RMCs. And many new rides that mark significant innovations from their manufacturers.
  7. It's possible that they will be able to overcome it, but also there is a history of the FAA getting buildings "scaled back" in height and they've been on a kick of trying to get less large buildings near airports. I don't really get the argument though. Laguardia is within 5 miles of Manhattan and functions. Mccarran in Vegas is 3 miles from the Stratosphere tower. Miami International is less than 5 from Miami downtown. This polarcoaster would be the only building over 500 feet tall anywhere near this airport, and it's still 9 miles away. Sounds like BS to me.
  8. They may have been able to sell it back or sell it off easily since it is so new. Today they were able to pack up the entire foundation of the ride (base/supports/fencing) in about two hours with 4 guys so It was easy to remove. I just asked if it was gone for good or going off to be refurbished and that was the answer given. He said it would operate better if it were indoors. Still, something else is destined for its spot. He actually told me what as well but it's weird to be given that previous information so IDK if I should say what's coming in its place.
  9. Busch is restructuring many departments, including PR. Some have speculated it has to do with that.
  10. ^It is gone and an employee was surprisingly open with me as to why. Near the top of the ride there was a lot of electrical wiring that was exposed to the elements and the ride would go down basically every time it rained. Obviously that doesn't work in central Florida. The grass underneath the ride wasn't even fully dead. Classic Zamperla. A completely different replacement attraction is planned for the spot, timetable unknown.
  11. If you need a family coaster at Cedar Point then you need one at basically every park I guess. I think what they really need are lower height restrictions and a family themed attraction. Iron Dragon, Blue Streak, and Cedar Creek Mine ride are all family coasters that run in other parks at 42 inches. They also have Pipe Scream and Woodstock Express, and at approximately 7 years old and 48 inches you can ride 11 coasters, more than about anywhere.
  12. Joey is right, but a little pessimistic. But here are some reasons why it is hard to be a fanboy. -If you're unlucky, half or more of your coworkers will not care. They will try to check their cell phones at inappropriate times, they will not check seatbelts quickly, they won't bother to check the temperatures on hot dogs before serving them, they will run one train with a 50 minute wait, they will give terrible directions to Superman or Apocalypse because they've never actually been over there to ride them...etc. This is a low-paying job attracting many low-wage workers AND the business decisions are all made for you already. -You will hear the EXACT same questions and deal with the same guest interactions repetitively, every single day. You will hear the exact same music on loop every shift. You probably will be stuck at one burger joint in the park for every shift you have, rarely roaming around, and you will have to walk 10 minutes from your car to get to that shack every day. You are limited in what you can do and learn in the lowest level postion. You're not visiting the park, the guest is. You are facilitating 1/20th of their experience at most (but with the opportunity to be the best part of their day). You will hear complaints, complaints, complaints and you may not have the managers or service expectations in place to back you up and provide for the guest. -You're also lucky to get long hours if you do get them. Parks have to keep labor cheap and usually pay little in benefits. Parks also need you to work all of the holidays and weekends you can. It will also be summer, so many jobs will be outdoors or in non-conditioned places. -It will ruin some of the magic and fun. It just does, when you know how something works and you go to another park in the future you will be less impressed by that thing or annoyed at how that park is running it in some way. So those things. Now if you are the type who can rise above; be joyous, dedicated to perfection and productivity in your work, and extremely safe in every aspect of what you do...YOU WILL BE NOTICED and you can be promoted in the future. Turnover is vast at parks and you can rise simply by being great at your job. Do consider the difference between a static-location theme park and a business that opens a new store somewhere in the country each week. My advice if you do work in the park is to stay positive every single day and find the managers and leaders who are willing to coach, mentor, do anything to help you and advance your career. Get trained on something before you leave, offer to help in another location. Be open.
  13. This ride is Millennium Force, but better in all design aspects. It will be the number 1 coaster for many enthusiasts. That helix under the first turn will be taken at 60mph plus. Trust me, you don't have to worry about this being a snoozefest.
  14. A new 2016 Coaster at Cedar Point would be amazing (they still need a themed attraction though IMO), and in with everyone else in this thread, I fully support a Dive coaster. They are really unique rides, they give off the sense of "Bigger and Badder" more than other rides. Millenium Maverick TTD Raptor Magnum World's Biggest Dive Coaster Who can compete with that? Six Coasters that would place in the MItch Hawker top 100, with two more B&Ms, an Intamin, and 8 more coasters not included.
  15. I'm so so so happy. I was contemplating dropping 90 dollars to go see the B52s (in Jacksonville) once before they stop or I die...and then Universal says they're playing Mardis Gras the next day! I love you Universal!
  16. I have the winner: Free Beer Houses at all Busch Parks being replaced with quick service restaurants.
  17. Be aware that it will be difficult to move into a full-time non internship position at Seaworld right now. Disney is the best about hiring full time. But Disney's Internships are not just for summer usually, they last through the fall. Universal has internships posted and Legoland is also an option. There is ample housing near disney though all of their affiliated housing is for college-based programs, and if you check the web (craigslist/facebook/padmapper) two months before you leave you should be able to find a sub-lease. In Orlando, if you work for Seaworld (a 28 hour cap for part-timers) you will have free access to any parks owned by Seaworld, as well as Universal, Legoland and many area attractions. For Universal you also get free access to Busch and Seaworld. Disney will grant you free access to their parks. Legoland participates in the same program as Seaworld but I'm unsure of their access. I would really recommend finding an internship (or begging for one) if you can, anywhere in the country. It is summer so anywhere you go will be beautiful and different from California. An internship of any kind will serve you better than 3 months on a crew. As long as you are paid 9 dollars an hour you should be able to afford to live cheaply.
  18. I think it's amazing to have three pages of "omg it's a great ride defense" when there was one comment about how it's a bit underwhelming. Kind of sounds like most people have talked themselves into it, no? Admit it, we're coaster enthusiasts and we'd probably rather it be a 54 inch height requirement, 80 MPH, inverted top hat, 2 zero g rolls and airtime hills Maverick-level ride. We all know what Intamin can build. But it's not, it is a general crowd-pleaser, and it's exactly what the park ordered. That's fine.
  19. Cheetah Hunt is an excellent ride and is very fun, but I would dramatically prefer Maverick/Storm Runner/Blue Fire. If you have those expectations they will not be met. It's a general crowd-pleaser that everyone can ride and enjoy. In many ways it's BGT's 4th B&M.
  20. ^Just walk and save the 15 bucks for another park meal or upgrade your Fastlane. If you drive you'll save at most a quarter-mile of walking time?
  21. For me, counting alpine coasters comes down to a single aspect of them: Do you think the ability to self-brake makes them not a rollercoaster? And for me, it doesn't. You can quite easily perform the entire attraction without ever once touching the brake. That includes the operator starting your ride, the lift hill dragging you all the way to the top, and the series of downward spirals and turns while coasting 100% of the time on steel rails powered only by gravity. It feels much more of a coaster than any wacky worm.
  22. Dang son! Definitely looks like they spent a few months designing things, rather than 2 weeks!
  23. From my experience Seaworld does fine with special events, especially on weekends. But the mid-week days they just get hammered sometimes, I was there on a frigid day in January 2014 with literally less than 500 guests in the park, and whenever you visit on a 10AM to 6PM day you'll usually find low crowds. Same with Tampa, if you visit between January-May or September-Early December on a non-holiday week or special event, it's never busy. But I've seen 1.5 hours for Shiekra/CHunt in the summer, and bigger crowds for other special events.
  24. This summer I did a credit day starting with a 1 pm opening at Gillians pier, followed by Playland castaway cove, then steel pier Atlantic City, then drove fully around the bay and did the rehoboth haunted house, then finally both Jolly Roger parks in ocean city Maryland and Trimpers with a 12am closing. I drove solo and that was a pretty packed afternoon and evening, but I got in all 13 available credits and every dark ride so these shore parks really don't take a lot of time apiece. I would definitely say it's doable to hit Steel Pier, then both ocean city NJ parks, then morey's comfortably in one day, and depending on opening times add seaside heights pier to it at the beginning. And as far as what was really worth doing beyond just the credit whoring, I would say. 1. Trimpers Haunted house/Fun house/Zipper/Mirror Maze 2. The Great White at Moreys (and the ghost ship/flats) 3. Rehoboth Haunted House 4. Kohr Bros. Peanut Butter and chocolate soft serve 5. Definitively MACK'S pizza in Wildwood
  25. Well...whatever Gwazi, that's pretty much how i feel about you. Easily the lamest coaster operating in Florida in its current state with no airtime, no dueling or second track, painfully slow operations policies, no guests riding it...this is like a sports trade where a player has been underperforming, or a divorce where too much has been said. Just go you poor thing. Here's hoping that something big and awesome replaces that major area of space in the park someday, or maybe just a path between Nairobi and the western part of the park to make the place walkable. Oh, and that SeaWorld entertainment doesn't jeep declining, that too.
