That One Ride You Just Can't Enjoy...
Mr.Peabody replied to HAZE's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've never gotten sick on a ride, but I do avoid most Vekoma hang-n-bangs and Boomerangs. I don't do water rides. Period. I did ride Roller Soaker at Hershey, but only because I was able to change into my swim trunks beforehand then dry off and change back into my street clothes afterward. I can't stand walking around in wet clothes regardless of the heat. -

Cedar Point's Halloweekends is included in the daily admission. My wife doesn't have a Platinum Pass so we bought her a two-day ticket when we checked into the Breakers on Friday afternoon. The Haunt at Kings Island is also included, the only inconveniences being that you can't leave the park and re-enter after the Haunt starts and that the outdoor scare zones have queue lines, unlike Cedar Point, where you can walk through any except Cornstalkers. I believe Scarowinds is also a separate event with a separate charge, but I'm not sure if the Platinum Pass is accepted for it. I don't know about Kings Dominion or any of the other Cedar Fair parks. -
WHo would ride the Crystal Beach Cyclone

Absolutely. The Crystal Beach Cyclone is the Holy Grail of coasterdom. The plans exist. We only need someone with the wherewithal to build it. -

I thought the Haunt at Wonderland was a completely separate event. Don't they close the park at 5 and then reopen for the Haunt? I was considering checking it out but I read that a Platinum Pass would only get you a discount admission to the Haunt and decided it wasn't worth it. If this is true, I paid less for my two days at Cedar Point ($0 with Platinum Pass) than I would have paid at Wonderland for a Friday night. -
For some reason, when I read this the image of Cartman in the Special Olympics popped into my head. Really, is there any group out there who doesn't feel they're more entitled than everyone else on the planet because of their particular challenge? Everyone has issues and some are more restrictive than others with regard to certain physically demanding activities. Would someone in an iron lung be entitled to sue a park over being denied access to a water slide? There's a point where catering to every special interest group becomes absurd, and I think we're close to it.

How were you able to use the free Fast Lane Plus for Saturday? When I got mine through Cedar Point it wasn't good on Saturdays. -

At least watching the Leafs doesn't induce any physical pain. I rode the Comet at Great Escape on Saturday and nearly got a migraine from it. It ran glass-smooth at Crystal Beach. Sam must be turning over in his grave. -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
Mr.Peabody replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The old Crystal Beach Comet at Great Escape, and when we hit the bottom of the first drop I had to double check to make sure we weren't on the Mean Streak. The way Six Flags has let the condition of this ride deteriorate is criminal. I hope they intend on doing some track work over the off-season. -

It's a tie between Waldameer and Knoebels. I can spend an entire day at either. -

The last Bills game I went to I sat in the end zone among a group that had come down from Toronto on a bus. One guy in front of us had smuggled at least a six pack of Canadian down the back of his down-filled vest and shared them out during the game. We were the soberest people in the section, and the "Go Leafs Go" chant started sometime in the 3rd quarter after it was clear the Bills had no chance of winning. They were friendly enough, though thoroughly intoxicated. Actually, it made the game more entertaining and tolerable. -

Leafs Nation! Ya gotta believe! (because watching them actually play is painful) wow that is some bucket list item. I'd hate to see the rest. does it involve marathoning a SLC headbanger? Why don't you take a road trip to Chicago, hit Great America and watch a real hockey team! It's gotta be the Leafs. I'd rather watch them play than ride Flight Deck. This is their year. With the Cubs still in the pennant race, anything could happen, except the Mad Cows (Sabres) making the playoffs. Leafs first, then maybe Chicago for Great America, A Blackhawks' game and a few cold ones at the Chicago Hofbrauhaus. Besides, you have to respect a fan base that chants "Go Leafs Go!" at Bills games. -

Whoa, did you actually score tickets to a Leaf's game? One of the items on my bucket list is to take the train up to Toronto and see the Leafs play in the ACC. -

Good lord, people are giant pansies now. Strap those idiots onto the Coney Island Cyclone for a while and see if they still think Wildcat and Boulder Dash are "unacceptably" rough. Objecting to the deterioration of a coaster's ride, based on how well it rode in the past, does not make someone a pansy, or an idiot. Comments like this, however, do. -
So in other words it won't effect the people it's designed to effect (dishonest people) but it will negatively effect those who don't deserve it (honest people). Sounds like a fantastic policy to me! Or maybe you're saying you don't think it goes far enough? Maybe they should have someone come up behind the guest, grab away their crutches and see if they fall over? I was wondering when the computer gaming industry's approach of screwing legitimate customers while doing nothing to deter their actual targets (pirates) would leech out into other industries. I have a friend who is legally blind, though not totally, and also has MS. She doesn't always appear outwardly disabled (some days she walks much better than others, and some days she can't even hold a fork). I wonder how many of you would see her on one of her better days walking from the Handicapped parking lot and think to yourselves, "there's no way she should be parking there." I don't think there's any fair way they can enforce this policy, but being Six Flags, they'll try. Personally, I'd make a bag of popcorn and watch the huge CF unfold next year.

I rather like the Waldameer Comet, though the Ghoster Coasters at Wonderland and Kings Island are good as well. -

I was talking to some of the Frankfurters at Darien during their break and they were quite enthusiastic about the Hofbrauhaus getting built. Hopefully they'll end up playing there on a regular basis. With that location, think of the business they'll do before Sabres, Bandits and Bisons games. I'm surprised they haven't built one in Toronto. -

How was Wildcat running? A couple of my enthusiast friends went to Compounce earlier this year and reported both the Wildcat and Boulder Dash were unacceptably rough. From what you wrote it would seem Boulder Dash was running better than it was when they were there. -

I've never encountered a Paulaner I didn't like. Their Hefeweizen, Salvator doppelbock and Oktoberfest Marzen are all among my favorite beers. I don't care for Hofbrau Lager or their Maibock, but I find their Oktoberfest quite drinkable and their doppelbock Adultorator remains the best beer I've ever had in my life. Unfortunately, until the Hofbrauhaus in Buffalo gets built I have to go to Cleveland or Pittsburgh in February to enjoy it. I can get their Dunkel locally, though. Ayinger Celebrator is also quite good, and is Augustiner's Maximator. -

It's probably because of the German Purity Law. -
I am a former final fear employee. They didn't open because they couldn't find a space to rent in time. It hasn't been the same since we left the fairgrounds. Final fear is owned by just a husband and wife, it's really a mom and pop thing but you can expect us to come back better than ever next year and hopefully we can strike a deal with the fairgrounds. I always preferred Final Fear when it was at the Fairgrounds. I wish them luck. What I'd really like to see return are the Barns of Doom and haunted hayride that were located across McKinley Parkway from the fairgrounds. Those were quite well done and rather unique.

I'm guessing that it doesn't, but because the tour package is about half the price of an Oktoberfest tour it's a fair trade-off. Between the smaller crowds and better beer I can live without the carnival and rides. -
Thanks, Robb. It really is a great event for a local park. The way the new mazes look really shows the passion they have for this special season. I can't wait to see what they do next year! Thanks! I'm really happy with what they've done this year. It's worth multiple trips if you have the gold pass when you consider the options of rides and haunts available. I''m going to do each maze again, a night at a time. Why not? The pass pays for itself! I believe so, but you have to show your pass to Guest Services first. That's how it was for me the passed two years when I held a Platinum pass and visited Knotts during non Haunt days. Its different for Knotts during Haunt, as they offer a separate season pass for Scary Farm. CGA Haunt is included with Gold or higher. The only rides not open on our visit were the rides in Planet Snoopy, and water park area. All the flat rides were running. I would recommend going straight to Gold Striker since their operations are fast. Then hit Flight Deck, and take in the haunts going counter clock wise through the park. The one thing missing from the park this year that I miss are the scare zones on the bridges in the park. It feels a bit empty in those spaces for me. I should have been more specific. I was asking if Platinum Pass holders were able to attend the media day event.

Oh, but a Europe trip is worth it. And thousand Americans and Beer, I can't tell how it is, only thousands of germans with beer! Oh, but why not in the end of September? Oktoberfest is such an great place, even if you don't like beer (like me), you still have that atmosphere in the tents... We're going in March because that's when all the breweries roll out their dopplebocks and Munich celebrates Starkbierfest, which is like Oktoberfest but without the crowds. I get seriously claustrophobic in crowds. I do enjoy beer and dopplebocks are my favorite. I had the Hofbrau Adultorator in Pittsburgh last February and it remains the best beer I've ever had, even better than the Augustiner Maximator. Paulaner Salvator is a close second, though.
