Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can visit earlier in the season. -
Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread
Mr.Peabody replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm starting to plan my coaster excursions for next year, and I'm thinking of going to Wonderland on July 3rd as I'll have that day off for Independence Day. With Canada Day so close, is the park traditionally more crowded during that four day stretch between July 1st and 4th or would Friday morning be a good time to visit? -
Creepy, Haunted Theme Parks
Mr.Peabody replied to screaminkid2005's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That episode is included in the Season 8, volume 1 DVD set. I'm not sure if it's the same ghost, but how many little girl ghosts could be running around a park? BTW, TAPS also investigated Sylvan Beach but I haven't seen that episode yet. It was some time after Grant left the show. -
Creepy, Haunted Theme Parks

TAPS did an investigation at Kings Island and supposedly recorded EVP's in the restaurant above the entrance gates. They attribute the sightings to a little girl named "Missouri Jane" who's buried in that little cemetery on the corner of the property. -
Shockwave--Six Flags Magic Mountain

Is this the same Batman the Escape that's currently rusting away in the field across the street from Darien Lake? -
If anything, I'd think he'd want the new stadium closer to downtown rather than further out. I thought the rumor was that he was buying the old Marine Midland tower (whatever it's called these days) with the intention of tearing it down. Whether there's anywhere near enough room for an NFL stadium in that area or not is another question I've no answer for.

I think it's more a case of joining in on the joke and speculating what a Pegula owned Darien Lake would be like. I've already purchased by pass for next year, as I like the direction the park has been moving in and how they're slowly but surely divesting themselves of the stigma of Six Flags. It's going to take time, but I like the way the park is being run these days as opposed to how Fantasy Island has gotten. The Predator may not be as smooth or as good a design as the Silver Comet, but at least I can ride it without being stapled til my eyes bulge. Little touches like that make all the difference.

How was the rest of the park in terms of theming, food stands and rides open? I see that this weekend isn't looking as bad weather-wise as originally forecasted, so there is still a slight chance that we may take the family up there. I still have my doubts about this event, but after seeing the $89/night special for a room for six at the lodge (about $200 total for the room and tickets/tax) that's not too bad. Anyone ever stay at the lodge that can comment on the quality of the rooms? The entire park was open with the exception of the water rides and some food stands, but the theming was minimal. The area around the Galaxy theater was themed, which made sense because all the haunted attractions are located in that area. The Grim Lizzies turned out to be nothing more than the tombstones from that area behind ROS placed along the track of the antique cars. I was hoping they'd haunt it more like Knoebels haunts their antique car ride, but it wasn't bad for a start. We left after we went through the haunted house so I'm curious as to whether they did any more after dark. I might go back on Friday night but it depends on the weather.

I braved the rain today and went to Outbreak. The haunted walkthrough had a great beginning. The theming around the entrance were pretty good. I think it would have been much better if the theme had been maintained throughout the entire walkthrough. I mean, really, what was a toy room and clothes closet doing in a secret military facility overrun by zombies? The concept was great but its execution was inconsistent. I also felt the attraction should have been a little longer, especially since it was the only haunt they had this year. I'd go again next weekend as I enjoyed myself today, except for the rain. There is, however, a lot of room for improvement.

It's already Bills colors. Just repaint it red and blue. It should be renamed, though. I always thought they got as far as prying the Superman logo off the station, sat back and said, "Ah, that's good enough." It really should be renamed to something with a more local connection. The present name would work of the park were located in Lackawanna, though.

I'm glad to hear that. At Wonderland a Platinum Pass only gets you a discount to the Halloween Haunt (if I'm reading it correctly) and they close the park at 5 and reopen at 7. Can you go to your car and get back in after the Haunt starts? At Kings Island there was no readmission if you left the park after 7 PM.

Your Dream Park
Mr.Peabody replied to coastermaniac's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Mine would be a retro-woody lover's paradise: 1. Crystal Beach Cyclone 2. Idora Wildcat 3. Rye Airplane Coaster 4. The original Mr. Twister from the original Elitch Gardens 5. Crystal Beach's Giant Coaster for nostalgia OR their old wood-tracked Wild Mouse If there's a roller coaster heaven, I'll be riding all of these there. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Mantis isn't open on Halloweekends Fridays. As for the tweet re: tomorrow I wouldn't be surprised to hear the last two weeks of the season it goes from being Mantis to King James then something else next year. I should have been more specific. I'll be there for this coming weekend and will ride it on Saturday. -

I'm heading to Halloweekends this Friday. I rode Mantis the year it opened and will ride it the last year it operated under that name/configuration. I'm interested to see what they finally end up doing with it. -
I went to the park yesterday for a few hours and had a great time. Light crowds and decent weather for the first time this season. I snapped a few pictures outside the Galaxy Theater, where they're preparing for the Halloween event. I should be going for that as well. Anyway, here are the pictures. Teaser sign outside the Galaxy Theater. Looks like a zombie themed walk-through. Marquis on the main walkway leading up to the theater.

Geauga Lake Discussion Thread

If the new Hofbrauhaus in Cleveland is successful, perhaps they would consider opening Oktoberfest World. Just restore the Big Dipper and add a few family friendly flats, put up a huge tent and they're ready for business. -
How many times the same ride in a day ?
Mr.Peabody replied to mingsai's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not counting ERT sessions, the most rides I ever got in a row was 38 on the Silver Comet at Martin's Fantasy Island one opening day in the rain. The hydroplaning on the lower trackage produced the best rides we ever had on that particular ride. That swoop turn before those last bunny hops was intense. Ah, good times never to be repeated. -

Does Cedar Fair own the rights to the King Cobra name? -
What about an upside down launch?
Mr.Peabody replied to Superbatboy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Mechanically possible, but very unlikely. The body can tolerate much higher positive than negative g-forces. An upside-down launch would carry with it a great possibility of riders suffering "red-outs." I don't think any park would be willing to take that kind of risk for injury and potential lawsuits. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
Mr.Peabody replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Because this year's excursion took us to Kings Island, I unfortunately will most likely not be returning to that area next year. If this had been announced before June we would have made different plans. I applaud Holiday World for this addition and look forward to visiting in 2016. It looks amazing and a good fit for the park. Bravo!
