  1. Not under normal circumstances. Heat can, but not at a temperature that they will be exposed to on a ride.
  2. Lightning Rod ran into issues from not using Intrasys to make the launch mechanism (according to speculation). WildFire had questions about the town allowing the structure. Vekoma is the European dealer for RMC.
  3. Not really a legal requirement (in the US at least). Nor is there really a set distance because it depends on the restraint system. GIBs have significantly smaller envelopes than PTC wooden coasters.
  4. Unless RMC has determined it is operating within an acceptable range and Dollywood doesn't want it to run that fast (even if it is safe to do so) because of the cost (wheels, brakes, additional labor).
  5. You can contact the parks media department. They'll likely have looked into using drones themselves for their location and can work with other departments to ensure it's done safely. We don't allow drones over our park, but we also have two on property we use from time to time.
  6. Those pneumatic towers still rely on the cables to somehow connect the cars to the pneumatic system. ARM/Larson towers use large permanent magnets on the cars. So unless something wonky happens to how physics works, they'll always come to a slow crawl before reaching the ground.
  7. The first drop is vertical. The drop off the MCBR is almost vertical.
  8. Not to interrupt the anti-Intamin circle jerk, but practically every time we have to get parts from a manufacturer and ship them, they arrive late or otherwise have problems. From multiple different manufacturers.
  9. Yes. Some run faster when wet because they have less friction between the wheels and the track. They may also move faster because friction and skid brakes are less effective when wet.
  10. Fantastic pictures as always Invertalon. And some amazing looking landscaping and buildings. I don't quite get the tiled look on the station, but it still all looks great (even if it is a standard Cedar Fair 'generic' theme).
  11. Centrifugal force is an apparent force. And is the one that might actually mean something in media.
  12. To my knowledge there aren't many legal requirements per say. Some states/governing body may have their own restrictions, but it's not very widespread or consistent. However there are standards (ASTM) that most manufacturers willingly follow that dictate things like forces that riders experience and types of restraint systems. Luckily overall this is a pretty safe industry and as such hasn't attracted a lot of attention of law makers.
  13. Yep. But 50 minutes is the closest "real" coaster to me. Farthest I've planned to drive was to LA, but that didn't happen after all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. If it makes you feel any better I drove easily over 10k miles over the course of the last season to Silverwood and only rode coasters maybe 4 times all season.
  15. Sounds like a great idea, but a terrible execution. I'm all for prepaid card (and gift cards are like free money for businesses since so many people forget about/don't use everything) but it should just be another option, not the only way to pay for something. Especially at games, where half of the reason people stop to play is because it's convenient at the moment. I don't think I've ever seen someone actually wait in a line to play a game.
  16. Strong laterals aren't much of an issue for Topper Track. It's been running without issues on Tremors for years in one of its most intense turns.
  17. If the park was literally zip-tying the vests on Gatekeeper, do you really think they're going to be using tightening restraints again?
  18. What are the cables hanging from the top hat on Stealth?
  19. Pretty much all launch coasters will rollback occasionally. It's not really anything to be anxious about.
  20. There's also been a marriage and at least one proposal on Tremors, plus a proposal on Panic Plunge. Guy got her on the ride and at the last minute after her restraint was locked, he got off. She rode and when it came back down he was on one knee and asked her.
  21. Throwing money at more maintenance staff doesn't necessarily mean faster turn around. There's things like NDT and ordering parts and space available that can all limit how quickly they can get trains running again, plus any track work.
  22. It doesn't stop on the lift hill because that in general scares guests and the ride has no way to know how long the other train might be in the station. It's generally not a good thing to stop unexpectedly then wait an undetermined amount of time before restarting. Signs and spiels only do so much to keep people calm in that sort of situation.

  24. Around March 15th. Source. Why are some of the seatbelts red? Are they the big boy seats? Yes.
  25. The sad thing is that the boat stopped being funny at about the 3rd post about it.
