Walt Disney World Epcot Discussion Thread
SLUSHIE replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I actually saw this first on Jalopnik of all places. I think visually it looks pretty much like what we were all expecting, and it appears to be congruent with what they have said about it. -

Any parks in Google Earth's new 3D mode? I'm assuming Great America might be on there. -
Best View From A Lift Hill
SLUSHIE replied to bubala's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not a rollercoaster, but a lift hill of sorts. -
I'd imagine if Lucasfilm gave up the rights to those movies for distribution n such, then those people would still own them. Disney owns whatever Lucasfilm owns. If they wanted to make another Willow, but... Paramount (don't care to look up who it actually is) owns distribution then it would have to be distributed though them. I don't think they would have any contractual obligation to actually produce another Willow movie though. The characters n stuff are probably owned by Lucasfilm, if they ever wanted to make an awesome Willow ride.

I don't care for the scaffolding either, but on a rainy day I'd much rather have it be there than not. I really don't think it looks all that bad, but really it's not entirely different. They could have upped the lighting package a bit on the outside. A lighting effect that follows the cars along this portion of the track could look cool from the outside, since its actually pretty hard to see the car itself. And the giant T would look much cleaner without those logos all over it. -
What was your first B&M Coaster?
SLUSHIE replied to thrillseeker4552's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can't be sure but it could very well have been Alpengeist. Not too shabby for a first B&M. -
TPR's 2012 China Trip!

This really does look like a fun ride, and the theming is pretty incredible, but it does look a bit slow and 'boring' at times. The launch part looks like a lot of fun though. My favorite aspect of BTMR is the out of control feeling and the sudden drops and janky track, this doesn't seems to have any of that. Even though the cable snapping and stuff is supposed to give the appearance of being out of control, it looks like the physical ride is quite tame. Do you guys that rode this think you prefer this over BTMR or is it just different? -
I've actually been to EPCOT once while this event going on, but I didn't try anything. This is really making me wish I did. Though I'm sure my wallet at the time was pretty glad I didn't. This was a number of years ago and I remember the prices being similar to what they are now, so maybe it's a bit better value than it was then.

What's most impressive about that Nature thingy is the lagoon that is apparently going to be heated to over 80deg F year round. That is a pretty massive body of water to keep that warm. I always find it funny when actual nature is bulldozed to create a man made 'nature.' -

So this is pretty crazy, Apple is selling refurbished iPad 3's for less than was an iPad 2 costs. http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad That's better specs all around with a retina screen for $20 less. -

I think at the price the mini just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I think the main reason the 7" tablets from amazon and whatever became popular was because of how cheap they were. With the iPad mini being quite a bit more expensive than those, I think people that want a 'cheap' tablet will still opt for those other ones. Anyone that buys an iPad mini is wholly concerned with screen size, because in my mind buying the mini over the iPad 2 isn't really a question about cost, since it's only another $70ish bucks to just get the bigger one. I actually also believe that the profit margin on the iPad 2 is larger than the mini since the specs are pretty much the same except for the screen, but the screen on the mini is actually more dense since they have the same resolution and the cameras on the mini are better. Microsoft's tablet comes out on the 26th, and then Google has a thing on the 29th where they are rumored to update the Nexus and change prices around. Holloday season of the tablet for realz. -

As someone that has operated chairlifts in the past, I find that net under the chairlift kinda funny. Most chairlifts bars don't lock, in fact many chairlifts still don't have any bars at all. I realize this is a completely different country from the US, but I have always wondered why it seems the safety requirements for something like this is way more strict at a theme park than at a ski resort. -

Google does in fact have a fleet of self driving cars. Self-driving cars are now legal in Nevada, California, and Florida. This tech is pretty far along, and it's almost inevitable that self driving vehicles will come to market within 10 years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_driverless_car Also lets not for get this gem Not a NASCAR fan, but NASCAR did a April fools joke telling everyone that they would be moving to driver less cars. F1 car have technically could have been driver less since the early 2000's. A crazy ammount of data is recored from an F1 car every single lap and that data could easily be used in a driverless car. They record steering angle, RPM ,gear changes, the bumps in the road, everything. The organization has banned every technology that has taken any control away from the driver though. They have banned ABS, Traction-control, Computer controlled variable transmissions, active suspension, ect. They have some tricky systems that get around it sorta. One that comes it mind is that there is a light and audible beeps in their helmet that tells the driver the exact moment they should shift. So while the computer is telling them what to do the driver still has to be the one that actually does it. This is a pretty awesome video that shows all the crazy tech F1 has invented. (thats from 2003 so it's kinda old). This is a huge market and many industries would benefit from it, mostly the transportation and shipping industry. It's probably the next big change we will see in our lives. Also more on topic, the iPad Mini or whatever it;s going to be called is going to be announced at an event next week. http://gizmodo.com/5952134/the-ipad-mini-is-coming-october-23rd -
I doubt it, the locations are a little ways apart. https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Bank+St&daddr=Port+Imperial+Blvd&hl=en&ll=40.706953,-73.968982&spn=0.256353,0.528374&sll=40.784879,-73.998953&sspn=0.016003,0.033023&geocode=FQU7bAIdWqiV-w%3BFWxDbgIdp7KW-w&t=w&gl=us&mra=mift&mrsp=1&sz=16&z=12 Also it's assumed that race might not actually be happening. They are building the pit garages, but other terms haven't been met or agreed upon, and the deadline I think already passed. 38 minutes seems like a long time. I guess a ferris wheel is now a major city of the world must have.

Welp http://online.wsj.com/article_email/SB10000872396390443635404578033684191275730-lMyQjAxMTAyMDAwMzAwODM3Wj.html It's expected to have similar internals to the iPad 2, and take the iPad 2's spot in the store. There has been rumors of Google updating the Nexus 7 and either dropping the current models price to $99 or making a new model at that price. With Nook, Kindle, Google, and now Apple having 7inchish tablets, I think this holiday season will be tablet wars! -
Well I went to Five Guys tonight and wasn't impressed again, the burger just tastes really plain. I got a pretty normal burger, tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, cheese, and ketchup. The ingredients are quality but there is no seasoning on the meat and it has no flavor. The atmosphere is humble and that is part of the appeal, but it is expensive (for the 'normal' burger) and I just don't get it.

I've only been to Five Guys once and wasn't really impressed. At the time the closest one was downtown but I just checked and there is a closer one now. What I did like is how you could pick whatever topping you wanted and it didn't cost any extra. I might have to give it another go. I agree The Habit is really good. There are quite a few of them in the Sacramento area and a went to them quite a bit when I was going to community college. Then when I went to school in Northridge they opened one up with a drive though and it was the best thing ever. I lived pretty much equal distance from In n Out and The Habit and it was always a pretty hard decision, unless I was hanging out at one of my friends apartment where the habit is pretty much in their parking lot. In Sacramento we have this place called the Squeeze Inn, they named it that because their original location was tiny, but they have since had to move from there because it wasn't wheelchair accessible and opened some new stores as well. They are famous for their "cheese skirt." They were featured on a few TV show in their original location. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hgguua08-g

That is interesting, and it's hard to see whether that will be a good or bad decision. In the short term, I don't think anyone that wanted a iPhone 5 is passing up on it because of the lack of Google Maps, very few people anyways. Lacking turn by turn didn't stop anyone in the past. In the long term if Google Maps was released, it could possibly of hindered the development of Apple's maps if everyone opted to use it instead and a much smaller number of users aided in correcting errors and adding content for Apple. Things like streets, transportation, and other details Apple has to add on their own, and those corrections will take time. It also will also take a long tome, if ever, for apple to get something like street view which many people find really useful in actually seeing a destination and finding the correct driveway n things like that. The thing with Apple users though is that you have the uneducated general users, who have no clue about any of this stuff and buy Apple products because of its public image, and the hard core fans that love Apple to the core. I don't think Google opting to not make an app for iOS6 will have any real effect at all. -

Are you talking about the new app? The YouTube App has certainly benefited from escaping Apples death grip. Since you can now watch videos with adds enabled you get a lot more content. The new app is essentially a copy of the Android ICS you tube app which has been out for almost a year (October). -
I respect your knowledge KrakenKing, but I think that is well beyond what hes looking for. I consider myself and audiophile, but I'm not at all an ear bud fan. You should check out NuForce though, they are highly regarded. I have a fiend who got some and he loves them and uses them when he is running n stuff. He has the more expensive ones ($70), but I'd assume the cheaper ones ($30ish) are better then just about anything else at that price. http://www.nuforce.com/hp/reviews-headphones.php Those are what they make on the right. The 'expensive' ones are the 700X/700M, the difference between those being one has a mic n stuff for cell phone use. Here is a review of the two cheaper models. http://www.head-fi.org/t/589730/mini-review-nuforce-ne-770x-and-ne-600-budget-earphones This is the important bit though Here is the 770X on Cnet http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones/nuforce-ne770x-carbon/4505-7877_7-35303191.html honestly they sound like an amazing deal, plus the blue ones look kinda cool. You can buy them directly from NuForce though amazon. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006RAXKYA/ref=asc_df_B006RAXKYA2193976?smid=A1X9RG1B24PGRW&linkCode=asn&creative=395129&creativeASIN=B006RAXKYA&tag=cnet_mp-3161-20 Lol, your opinions of audio quality are now invalid.
