  1. The crowds after 4 pm probably wouldn't be as bad as crowds from about 11 to 4, but I would still expect substantial wait times for most of the major rides. If you plan on staying until closing time, the last hour (give or take) of operation usually has lines no more than 10-15 minutes for most rides.
  2. I also think Tennessee Tornado is overrated, but for different reasons than those listed above. It is by far the smoothest Arrow coaster I've ridden, but it was not as intense as most make it out to be. It was about as forceful/intense as most other Arrow loopers (decent forces but nothing too strong). Still one of the better coasters at Dollywood though.
  3. Cosmic Coaster - Valleyfair. Usually don't ride kiddie coasters, but since it's at my home park, I finally rode it just for the heck of it.
  4. When I was at Carowinds back in May, the Fury 325 crew was ridiculously efficient. They were consistently dispatching the train right after the train ahead of it cleared the lift hill. They were basically shouting "go, go, go" as soon as the gates opened, and the loaders were running to check seatbelts and lapbars. The screen in the station showed them regularly hitting 40 dispatches per hour. Puts most other coaster operations I've seen to shame.
  5. Spongebob at Nickelodeon Universe.
  6. Cedar Point: Millennium Force and Maverick - 7 Carowinds: Fury 325 and Afterburn - 11 Kings Island: Banshee and Diamondback - 17 Six Flags Great America: Goliath and Raging Bull - 20
  7. Noticed a few red and white markings near the ticket booths and on the walkways next to the Dinos fence outside the park. Think this means anything?
  8. Updated list: Arrow - Thunderation (2004) B&M - Dragon Challenge (Red) (2011) CCI - Outlaw (2015) Dinn - Mean Streak (2015) GCI - Ozark Wildcat (2004) Gerstlauer - SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge (2013) Hopkins - Dragon (2015) Intamin - Avatar Airbender (2013) International Coasters, Inc. - Hurler (Carowinds) (2016) Mack Rides - Journey to Atlantis (2012) Morgan - Wild Thing (2013) Premier - Revenge of the Mummy (Hollywood) (2013) PTC - Blue Streak (2015) RMC - Goliath (2014) Vekoma - Invertigo (2015) Zierer - Pepsi Orange Streak (2013)
  9. The security checkpoint at the front gate is gone as of this morning.
  10. Wild Thing, yesterday morning as a test ride for the pre-opening procedures.
  11. Just keep your head forward off the headrest and brace for the bad transitions. You'll probably still get some headbanging, but it shouldn't be too brutal. Anyway, I'm hoping to get back down to Adventureland before the end of summer to ride Monster. Any know of any decent hotels in the area? Last time, I stayed at the Best Western across the street from the park and was not impressed.
  12. Can't argue with that logic. I would rather wait 5 more years for a new coaster than get an SLC anytime in the next four years. In all seriousness, I don't think that we'll be getting an SLC, new or used. All of Cedar Fair's Vekomas were acquired through park buyouts (except for Boomerang at Worlds of Fun in 2000), and we probably won't get the SLC from Canada's Wonderland either because Matt Ouimet did say last year that he isn't a fan of ride relocations.
  13. ^ Near the bottom of Power Tower to the left, looks like an SLC roll over to me.
  14. Anyone think it's a little suspicious that the only ride shown on this wall at Picnic Point that isn't at the park is a Vekoma SLC?
  15. ^ I agree, Wild Thing pretty much has the weakest sign of all the park's coasters. Corkscrew just got a new sign, so can we be next?
  16. It's a toss-up between Invertigo at Kings Island and Vortex at Carowinds. Invertigo is full of brutal headbanging, and Vortex is painful on the legs.
  17. RipTide is finally open, saw it running with riders on my way out today.
  18. Thunderhead at Dollywood. I was really looking forward to riding this, but when I finally did, my rides on it were pretty rough and rattly, gave me a minor headache. Roughness aside, it didn't have a lot of airtime or any moments of strong intensity that I'd been expecting since many rate Thunderhead fairly high. Hopefully they give it some retracking soon, it could do wonders for the ride.
  19. Today I checked out the new Valleyfair 40th anniversary exhibit at the Scott County Historical Society in downtown Shakopee and saw some neat old-school stuff. General overview of the exhibit. 2001 park map. Exhibit brochure with pre-Corkscrew park map. Would not mind having this as a living room seat. I miss the buzz bars. Colonel Oompahpah lives! 1975 entrance gate concept art.
  20. To be clear, the 12 hour trip I mentioned above does not include stops for gas, food, or a hotel stay, so a one-way drive to Cedar Point from the Twin Cities will take at least a day-and-a-half unless you want to drive through the night and skip the hotel. On another note, it's been confirmed that Valleyfair's new waterslides will be featured on this summer's season of Extreme Waterparks on Travel Channel. Not sure when VF's episode will air though. http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2016/06/21/valleyfair-breakers-plunge-extreme-waterslide.html
  21. ^ When I went to KI and CP last year, we drove 12 hours to Kings Island, then 12 hours back to MN from Cedar Point. Even though the drive is doable, I'd recommend flying there if possible, less tiring and you'll avoid the traffic in Chicagoland.
