  1. Great Adventure has over 2000 acres I believe. There's a bunch of parks with a lot more than that.
  2. If it was later at night before closing they usually rope off rows to avoid rollbacks on the lighter trains. Temp doesn't have too much to do with closing rows, because normally the heavier the load, the better.
  3. Six Flags would probably welcome a clone, but I don't know that Alan Schilke would be so open. He has so many crazy ideas that the 3-4 designs he does a year probably isn't enough to implement them all. I bet that he would love to make something completely new and state of the art.
  4. Yeah, if they think that paint will get this coaster back to number one, they have another thing coming. I would have like to have seen more extensive work done with the effects and trains.
  5. Six Flags was a double edged sword. There were pros and cons for them vs other management we had in years past. Pros: - Two train ops on every coaster most of the time - Theming on rides, not left generic (Ride of Steel) - More investment and more consistent additions - Nothing was left to rot or SBNO for seasons Cons: - Less clean atmosphere (trash, faded paint, landscaping) - Less investment on the campground and waterpark - No upgrades to older attractions, just new ones I think that overall Six Flags got a bad rap that they didn't deserve. I would trade in a little less clean atmosphere for more investment in building new attractions. Plus although we had an older ride collection, nothing was left SBNO for years like Ranger or UFO. Operations were also a lot quicker and two trains were always running, even in the slow time of year. Herschend and PARC improved in a lot of areas like landscaping and theming, but ops were brutal and investment was less. I really like what Premier is doing too, but I am worried what their budget might be. Granted that none of them had full control of finances, and would likely invest if they had control (especially Herschend). In the long run, I would rather still have SF running the park than an investment company joint operation like now.
  6. I haven't ridden it yet myself, but Goliath seems to rate lower than the rest of the RMCs just based on length. There isn't a bad RMC yet in the world, but the rest just have more texture and length. Judging from the povs, Goliath seems like a Wicked Cyclone-like ride because it doesn't let up, it's pure intensity.
  7. Not that the Crazy Couch ride is a bad idea or anything, but this company needs to start building bigger or it won't be able to stay afloat. Even if they sell a ton of these rides, they will still have their own business costs and theme parks will want different or larger attractions. One new ride a year just won't do, especially if they are this small or a game like Spin and Win. I'm not saying that they need to start building Gigas or anything, but not every park can suit the capacity of these smaller things.
  8. That's how they've been stored for years until they can shift things around backstage to make room for them. Even if new trains were purchased, it wouldn't hurt to keep these ones for parts. Not all are salvageable or interchangeable, but some are.
  9. Re-naming the entire park is pretty extreme even though nothing is official. It could even rub some bitter fans the wrong way and make them not want to visit. Kingda Cubs has to happen though. Every time it breaks down could represent the many seasons of failure the Cubs have gone through
  10. As long as they decided to scrap the trains, it would have been cool if they launched one final train off the launch track into the sky. They probably could have made money off of that as a spectator event too. If something went wrong though, I could just imagine how much damage would be done.
  11. As cool as the concept would be, I think it would be too much of a liability with people not being able to see their surroundings in "real life". I hope what I said there makes sense.
  12. How the hell is Tatsu rated worst on that list??!??!? I mean, it's not the best coaster in the world, and B&M flyers aren't the greatest, but Tatsu is far from the worst coaster in the world. There are many coasters, even the rest of the flyers, that are worse. I guess that's why we can't put any trust in the GP.
  13. Darien Lake on opening day 2016. I'm all vacationed out for the year and I don't usually do Halloween events. Long wait ahead...
  14. The amusement park season and the hockey season pretty much covers the whole year for me. I picked two good hobbies to like.
  15. Raptor all the way. Old school B&M intensity, best overall ride of the three, and it eats people who don't follow simple rules. I like Gatekeeper, and it would probably be number one for me if it were a bit more intense. Rougarou is not a bad ride at all, but it was pretty lame. Especially after waiting 90 minutes for it. It was definitely smooth and is very nicely themed (or at least photogenic). But the ride is not as forceful as I hoped, and there isn't really any "Wow" moments.
  16. It's not only the stress issues, but the launch system will be a big upgrade. With the old electric motor launch, there were over 200 motors and tires used to launch the train. That is so many moving parts to inspect and keep track of, and because there was contact between the components and the train constantly, there was a lot of stress and need for replacement parts I'm sure. With an LSM launch, there would be no contact with the trains, plus the park will probably be able to reuse their current flywheel system for it.
  17. I was never a big fan of Lehner. He's 24 now, which is still young, but I haven't seen enough to make me believe he will be a solid starter. He looks more to me like a James Reimer, who's been stuck in backup limbo for years now. I think I would even prefer Enroth or Neuvirth, who is crushing it in Philly right now.
  18. Big money big money no whammy no whammy Stop! Please for the hope of god get new trains or refurbish these to the point where they both can operate again.
  19. Wow... I am really shocked right now. And at 37? Way too young. RIP Kevin. You will be missed by many.
  20. Very unique. I will be interested to see how well people will respond to this, because it probably beats the typical Zamperla/Mack mouse.
  21. Why does Kumba need a massive refurb, that thing still rides (and looks) like a top 10 steel coaster? Completely agree. I would be worried if something similar to Hulk happened to Kumba, it would be butchered and not the same ride.
  22. 1) National Lampoon's Vacation. Still one of my favorite movies to this day, and not just because roller coasters were in it. Chevy Chase was gold in this movie. 2) Anyone remember in Child's Play 3 (?) the final scene where Chucky tries to do the curse on the little boy in the Haunted House dark ride? That was pretty good. 3) Sandlot/Goonies ride scenes. I still enjoy those older movies too. I watched the Goonies over and over when I was a kid. 4) In the new Vacation movie, Ed Helms punches a guy to get in front of him on a coaster. The guy had a Platinum Pass and got to skip the line, but it was the last train of the day so Helms wanted to get on. The new version will never live up to the original, but I thought it was super funny that they were fighting over who got on NINJA. Who in the right mind would do that?
  23. Big Red Wings fan here. Larkin is going to be a real good player. Nobody that young ever makes the team. The present and the future seem to be bright. I live in Buffalo, so the Sabres are also a team that I like. Even though they are 0-2 so far, they are playing a lot better then last year. Defense has improved, they just need to find a way to get more pucks in the net.
  24. Mainly for two reasons.. 1) Red paint fades quickest out of all colors. The amount of sun that they get out there likely is just eating away at it. 2) I believe that in some cases, at least Wicked Cyclone from what I've heard, to speed the Ibox coasters up RMC purposely uses steel wheels to rip up the paint. This causes more friction on poly/nylon wheels.
  25. Wow, judging from the photos, both seem like very nice parks. Maybe a Mexico trip is on the radar for me in the next few years. I really would like to get on some of the coasters down there, and I was under the impression from other peoples' comments that it was "dangerous" to go there or something. I should stop listening to others .
