The NL/NL2 Preview Thread
coasterkid124 replied to mcjaco's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
There's some great stuff on this thread! I'm going to ask this here too, and I apologize in advance because I know there's a help thread, but it doesn't get as much attention. Is anyone else having an issue with the Force Vector tool? NL2 crashes for me every time I try to use it. -
Big Surprises on Coasters
coasterkid124 replied to gerstlaueringvar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Skyrush from beginning to end. Especially that first drop. Maverick's twists caught me off guard too the first ride. Lightning Racer was a nice surprise for me after a bad ride on Wildcat. -
Which coasters are the "most fun" to ride?
coasterkid124 replied to A.J.'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Phoenix and Lightning Racer are both great coasters. Never had a bad ride on either. The Intamin stratas are fun too when they are open and don't have a huge line. I would say that some Arrow loopers are fun too. Viper at Darien Lake is very smooth, and while not the greatest coaster, it has a nice laid back pacing and is a nice break during the day. -
Thorpe Park Discussion Thread

Normally, Merlin markets stuff very highly building up a lot of anticipation, only to crush it with a lesser creation that has only a cool element or two. Think Thirteen or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I am intrigued with this though. I am really hoping that it turns out good. -
Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread

Well, it's better than nothing. It's a good thing that the park sees the uniqueness of this ride and are giving it the proper attention. -
Great Adventure is doing fine. The GP doesn't care if coasters are clones or relocated or whatever the case may be. Toro and Nitro are winners alone, and they have a good supplementary lineup with Batman, Bizarro, Ka, Mayhem upcoming, etc. (oh and Skull Mountain too ) And it's not like they're forgetting families. Adventure Alley and Off Road Safari are good examples of recent family additions that have been very popular. And about Ka, Six Flags didn't really cheat as they didn't design the ride themselves, they were just looking for the record. Plus Cedar Fair could have answered back if they wanted. They were just too smart to fall into the trap after all the issues with the launch mechanism. Six Flags could have rejected the layout, but it did what it was supposed to and claimed the record so....

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
coasterkid124 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Raptor is my fourth favorite at the park right now. Valravn might drop it to 5, but I doubt it. It's intense and still catches me off guard after all these years. Dragster would rank higher too if it had more texture. But I refuse to rank short coasters high on my list, no matter how intense they are. That's a reason why Wicked Twister is lower for me too. -
I feel the same way about Blue Streak and Devil's Den, but when the park ultimately closes, we all know that those crazy "Save the Coaster" campaigns will start. Blue Streak isn't that great anyways and it isn't maintained as well as some of the other coasters that old. I could totally see Knoebels trying to buy the Bug because of its proximity and its history. It would be perfect for them and give me another reason to visit.

I think as coaster enthusiasts, it isn't crazy for people to speculate and want their park to build a huge investment every year. But that isn't the way the industry works. Do I think Dorney is due for a coaster? Probably so, but it isn't the most pressing need for the park. You have to remember that over the last 10 years, Dorney has built 3 major coasters. That's not a luxury that many parks have. There are many other parks in the Cedar Fair chain alone more deserving of one at this point. MiA and Valleyfair haven't gotten one in a long while, and Kings Dominion is another large park who actually has a longer coaster drought than Dorney. That is only half of the fight, as the larger parks in the chain get the most frequent investment. I'm not trying to put Dorney down at all, but I'm just trying to be as realistic as possible. I too would love to see the park build something great, although we may have to wait a while for it.

Same here. Never knew a lot of songs from the group, but this one is one I know very well and listen to quite often. RIP Scott Weiland

Whats The Weather Like Where You Live?
coasterkid124 replied to RtherBOnACoaster's topic in Random, Random, Random
For once it is not snowing and miserable here in Buffalo. We just set the record for longest span of un-recordable snow since the 1890s. This is very unusual for us to go into December without any days where it has snowed. Alas, this weather will not continue for long. After next week with more temps in the 40s and 50s, I heard we will begin to see snow. And according to predictions, this year we will get hammered with snow worse than last year, and we had a major storm last November. -
Normally vertical loops, cobra rolls, and other high positive g elements don't produce dropped items because they are pushed down rather that upwards. But zero g rolls and corkscrews will because the positive force is less than one. Airtime hills are really big killers for loose articles. I lost a season pass before on Ride of Steel's airtime hills (luckily it was my last visit of the year anyways). Also, last summer I nearly caught someone's phone while riding Millennium Force in the back seat. Could you imagine what the person's reaction after the ride would be if I handed their phone back to them?

It would be crazy if they decided to remove Dragon Challenge in the future, but it would make sense especially with Hulk getting this large refurbishment. For Universal, they probably see opportunity for another Potter themed coaster with a lot more in terms of scenery and a storyline. Gringott's had huge lines and was a complete success, and it wasn't even that great to me (from a coaster standpoint because I was expecting more, but it was an amazing dark ride experience).

Nothing is going to change no matter how much the owners petition and try to get around paying the taxes. Some businesses will succeed and some will fail, it's just how capitalism works. As sad as it is to see a park close, there's just really nothing going right for the park. They have a dying collection of unreliable rides, a single coaster, and attempts to save the park and revive it have been given up on. It really doesn't help that the park is in PA either with the huge collection of great parks that they already have. I think it's just time for them to shut the doors, and try to get back any money they can from selling off the rides. Blue Streak, the Tumble Bug, and Devil's Den would be the only big losses if nobody would bid on them, but at this point it is what it is.

Once the time comes for a repaint on RoS, I agree that they should change the color scheme. The park already has a red coaster with Mind Eraser, plus red fades quicker than all other colors. The paint test on the track done just a few years ago had already faded to the rest of the track pretty much. Generally, colors fade according to the length of their waves. Red has the shortest wavelength, therefore fades quickest. The scale of wavelengths goes ROYGBIV. Although bright colors pop the most, they also don't last long. A green or blue would last longer. Viper went nearly 20 years with green, and always looked good. I think it even looked good when faded. Sorry to drop science there, I just nerd out when it comes to physics.

There's a lot of them, but airtime/transition-wise; Skyrush I305 Maverick And inversion-wise; Kumba Old School Inverts (Batman, Raptor, Montu, etc.) Hulk If I had to pick an overall coaster it would be Skyrush. All the elements on that ride were totally unexpected, and the airtime was double that of any other coaster I have ridden.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Same feeling here. I never did understand what all of the "hate" for the ride is. Would people still rather have Transport and Space Spiral instead? Is it the most crazy, intense ride ever? No, but as I've said a million times before, that's not really the point of a wing coaster. It's supposed to be more graceful and photogenic. I think Gatekeeper satisfies everything it was supposed to perfectly. Not everyone can ride intense coasters like Raptor and Maverick. A good park always has balance. -

Just started watching. The guy with the glasses is hilarious. He's shooting down anything Universal is throwing at him. It's looking good for Skyplex. -
Inversions do nothing for me, unless they're either forceful or executed right. Raptor and Kumba do inversions right, whereas a lot of Arrows, I would rather see an airtime hill instead. If an inversion is good, I'm all for it. But in most cases, sadly, they just feel like turns. Vertical loops and cobra rolls are examples of inversions that I don't like. Usually they give you a lot of headbanging and are kind of forceless. Some coasters however use these elements as a great moment in the layout. I really like the way vertical loops are on Boomerangs, because of how forceful they are on the reverse run.
