  1. ... he was clearly sh*tfaced right?. While I DO expect a new fatality every time this thread is bumped, this one is clearly not the park's fault. Doing a search on the incident, I discovered that there has been quite a few deaths of hikers climbing the actual Mount Olympus in Greece (latest being last December). Interesting.
  2. This will be my fourth time visiting this particular weekend. It's our long weekend in Canada, so expect to see a good amount of Canadians there. Saturday will be busy, Sunday is quite manageable, Monday (our holiday) is completely dead. We always buy FL+ for Sunday and go crazy (SV will likely be 2hrs all day), but if you want to ride everything only once, it's not needed. Weather is unpredictable in May. We've always been blessed with sunny and decent temps (60-80's) when visiting, however it can get cold at night, especially for camping! All rides have been open too, never had a problem that way. The cold mornings do offer a greater chance of Dragster rollback! Which I've never had I thought about being a good TPR Samaritan and offering a shower in our Cabin, but as another mentioned, just head to the waterpark showers. They are closer, have bunnies, and you can go on your own schedule. Brilliant idea.
  3. Awesome! My family and I hope to see you work the crew May 19-20.
  4. This event looks great! I've heard about it before, but never looked closely into it. I have now thanks to all those pictures! We are going to the park Victoria Day weekend May 19-21. Hopefully the event is on that date. Steel Vengence, Texas BBQ, and American craft beers, what a day that would be.
  5. The yellow excavator is piling down, likely to bedrock, to support a heavy load (lift hill?) They are not simple footers, usually dug out, that can hold a section of track. Of course, if the soil is weak, they might have to pile the whole coaster. Nice shots! If you could get the company name (such as Anchor Shoring) not brand (like CAT or John Deere) of those excavators or even pickup trucks, I might be able to get some info. I work in the trade here in Ontario. PM me.
  6. Interesting way to look at it! LOL. I guess the 407 is the "fastlane" to Wonderland. It's only neccessary during rush hour and I believe the OP will be coming through later than that, and as you mentioned, with 2 or more occopants, the HOV Lane is available almost all the way (QEW then 403) to hwy 400.
  7. I've nearly rode 500 coasters. El Toro, SkyRush and Phoenix are in my top 5, so you've got great taste! May I suggest Canada's version of Phoenix called Coaster at Playland in Vancouver. I have a feeling you will be thrilled, as I like it better.
  8. The city minutes mention tunnel and also that Wonderland has in place flood prevention and occurance plans. Judging by Cedarfair1’s pictures, it looks quite deep at this point. It doesn’t look wide enough for a wing or drop coaster. I’m still going invert, but a Tatsu-like flyer, diving under the water and hugging the terrain would be awesome too!
  9. Jan 12, would be permission to dig. The end date would be enough for project completion, but easily extended. It also could include other elements, not effecting the coaster. Judging by the pictures (we should see cement trucks soon), it looks like all ground work would easily be completed by opening day. Come the off-season, it's just erect the set, which we know takes little time. No reason this coaster isn't open for 2019, if that's the intention at this point. Exciting times! I can't see this being a wing rider, going through that somewhat narrow tunnel. The layout has inverted written all over it, with the tight quarters, tunnel dive, big turn around on the hill.
  10. It's a fantastic price. I have priced out a Japan trip the last year. To think of all the places TPR Is taking you (not just theme parks which is a great idea), hotels, food and a full time EXPERT tour guide to handle everything Japanese, there really is no other way! I can't make it, mostly due to a family cruise at the same time, so I'll have to shoot for a Beauty and the Beast Land visit in the future! My wife will love that.
  11. If you only have 7 days, I would stick to Las Vegas and L.A. Are you sure you'll be satisfied with only half a day and one night in Vegas? With all the shows, rides, restaurants, casinos and shops, it's usually a 3 day destination. You can even make a day trip to the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon, which is quite spectacular. Make sure you stop at Buffalo Bills on you way to L.A. to ride the Desperato coaster. In the Greater Los Angeles Area, I would recommend in order of personal importance: -Disneyland and California Adventure -Universal Studios -Magic Mountain -Knotts -Santa Monica Beach and Pier -The Grove Mall and Rodeo Drive -Sunset Boulevard and Beverly Hills drive -Griffith Observatory -TMZ tour (I really had fun) -Hollywood Walk of Fame At SF, the Platinum pass will get you on every ride, however only once on the best coasters. I would recommend going to your fav coaster first at opening before buying the pass, so you can get two rides in.
  12. What are your time constraints? Yes, you are missing SO much! I could list a weeks worth of stuff to do at each of your three destinations and things in between! For example, it’s a boring 5hr drive to get to San Fran, but not if you take Hwy 1. It is filled with amazing scenic look outs and stops like Big Sur (whale watching), Pebble Beach and The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. You’ll need another day just for driving, but it’s one of the best drives I’ve ever had. One glaring mistake is driving all the way to Valencia and then back into L.A. The trip from Vegas takes 4hr with no traffic, L.A. has terrible traffic. You’ll want a full day starting at opening for Six Flags. There’s some good hotels In that area.
  13. The black fence seen around Wonderland is commonly referred to as "Silt Fence". Although it's usually not very effective, it's a requirement for construction projects in Ontario before any soil is disturbed to protect waterways and wildlife from sediment runoff. If you spot some, then an excavator is usually not far behind or in the area. This is interesting, as there seems to be some kind of planned excavation between Vortex and Windseeker. Of course, it could be something simple, like a buried service line.
  14. Not a big coaster year for me. I did manage a trip to Hershey to ride my favourite steel coaster. On a trip to Alaska, I was thrilled to ride Coaster in Vancouver, which became my #3 woodie. Good off-season thread that got me thinking and reminiscing. 1. SkyRush 2. Coaster at P.N.E (New) 3. Phoenix 4. Mine Blower (New) 5. Great Bear 6. Storm Runner 7. Space Mountain, Magic Kingdom 8. Everest 9. Flying Turns 10. Lightning Run
  15. It’s not like Cedar Fair has blackballed Intamin. B&M has hit the right combination of looks, capacity, intensity (not overly) and price that the company and general public currently want. Cedar Fair has finally started hiring RMC, who has Intamin ties, to built coasters. Trends come and go.
  16. Groups of 4. If you are solo, they will likely match you up with at least a twosome. There is some buttons to press while others hold off enemies. There is no way to really fail, but there are so many troopers and targets to attack that I think it would be frustrating solo, as you would get hit a lot (your vest would buzz constantly) and it may take too much time to go through. I'd recommend booking your time on thevoid.com. The day we visited, it was reservation only and many walk ups were disappointed.
  17. Visited the park Dec 27. At almost 200lbs, I was worried I might have to do my first walk of shame, but I’m happy to report that the weight limits have been raised to 230lbs for the 2 drop slides! The single drop slide is still at 300lbs. The park opens for Universal guests at 9am and 10am for the rest (and us Disney resorters). We took an Uber and arrived at 9am. A shuttle bus was waiting right at the drop off location to take people over to the park. Your allowed to enter the park and get changed. By the time we were ready at 9:30am, they dropped the rope and we had the next 1/2h to ourselves in an almost deserted park! So get there early and you might have the same luck. Lines were all quite manageable, with most walk ons, until noon. We bought an express pass (selling them again), which we didn't really need since the morning went so well. We only used it for all re-rides in the afternoon, as lines were all approaching 100 minutes. All around a great day, even during busy Christmas. Opening shot, 9am. Park empty!
  18. Hi Andrew. Have you visited Kings Island and/or Cedar Point recently? I would ad those to the trip and stop at Hershey, or Great Adventure if you must ride El Toro. Leave the rest for an East Coast trip, where you could add SFNE, Lake Compunce, NY City or maybe Dollywood. Have you attempted a trip like this before? Theme parks are exhausting and adding long driving hours to those days can wear you down quick. As others mentioned, a 10hr drive home after this extensive trip would be awful, potentially dangerous.
  19. If your taking a whole week off, then weekdays would be recommended. Every operating weekend is crowded, especially Memorial Day weekend. May is a great time to go, as long as the weather cooperates. Being a Canadian, I usually visit our long weekend before Memorial Day and have had a great time every time. Every ride was open and crowds were manageable. That’s being said, if your willing to splurge $90+ on Fast Lane, you can visit any day and have a good time. With Steel Vengeance opening next year, I would make sure it’s fully operational before visiting. You wouldn’t want to miss the industry’s new hotness.
  20. Good plan. As mentioned by others, you really have to arrive before opening or EMH if they apply that day. I've been on the busiest days (I'm going this Christmas), and have never had a problem. This year, we will be at the gate in the dark at 6:30am for 7am opening. Will ride Seven Drawfs, Peter Pan, followed by the Frontier land rides, then adventure land. All rides will be under 30 minutes, some near walk ons. We will finish around 11am or 12pm to watch the parade and then head back to the hotel for lunch/a swim/A NAP/etc, while watching the hordes of crowds arrive. After supper, we will return and use our FP on Space Mountain, Drawfs, Thunder, and watch the fireworks. Tip: try to make a FP after fireworks to allow the crowds to leave, it's almost unbearable after fireworks, be prepared. This strategy works for all the other parks too, as I would never find myself in a Disney park, during afternoon at Christmas.
  21. Craft beer and night time rides on Coaster. Wish I could be there! In a related note, Coaster was left off the ballot in this years Golden Ticket Awards. Terrible, I know. I had to leave my third fav woodie selection empty and wrote in the vote.
  22. An entertainment window would be awesome and highly likely. Even a "sleep mode" showing the planet your orbiting and the odd spaceship quietly flying by, would be something I would love to fall asleep to. "Battle mode" at a scheduled time would have everyone glued to their room window! The possibilities are wonderful to think about.
  23. I really want to go to Hershey next year or so, but being a smoothness B&M hyper fan, I fear I won't enjoy Skyrush. Even Storm Chaser at KK was a little too intense for many rerides. Hmmm. You know the feeling,, the huge smile you get,, when your boost meter reads 1, you hit the gas and your STi throws you back into the seat? That's SkyRush, as it pulls you over the hills. I love a nice floater experience too (Diamondback is my favorite for this), but it's a more "weeeeee" experience than the "whoaaaaaa" that SkyRush gives you. Whatever your opinion ends up being, you gotta experience it and let us know!
  24. There's no rattle on SkyRush. We're not diagnosing a car here. Since improvements, lap bar pain is almost non existent. It's a masterpiece, coaster nirvana! Along with El Toro, they are my top favs. I managed a hands free front row ride on SkyRush this year, but was unable to do it riding back row, left side. I question the claims that it's slower. Feels the same to me as when I rode it opening year.
  25. You don't sound too fun. Behemoth and the great flats are half a day! You didn't even mention the awesome 300' giga or the rare suspended coaster. Wonderland is a very nice scenic park to simply walk through for a first timer. Your post is an unfounded downer.
