  1. Superman theme. The epic coaster song. Slow buildup when on the lift, to the loud and famous classical music on the circuit. So easy and perfect.
  2. I stopped by the park yesterday. Goliath and Boomerang were down too. Makes for a less than great day when one of the premier coasters is down. That left Vampire as the only good coaster running. Got a front row ride and it made me a little woozy. Can't imagine the back row on this thing. Wow, it's intense. This was my first ever solo trip and I got a chance to really observe people. Their is such a difference between enthusiasts and the GP. They were amazed at Ednor, like it was some new creation. I saw people daring their friends to go on it, while I was thinking this piece of junk has been cloned everywhere and I am getting the measly credit. After riding Monstre, the fellow beside me asked "wasn't that great?!". I smiled with a yes, but inside was thinking, no that was violently aweful. Monstre looks great though. RMC would have an awesome creation if they ever got a hold of this. I would predict a Medusa/Wicked Cyclone ride, due to its height and twisting layout. As for the park, it is really run down more than I remember a few years ago. So many unused, worn buildings. Most coasters need paint. Cobwebs everywhere, especially in Dragons line. I guess I have been spoiled visiting so many other great parks, even other Six Flags, and my standards are much higher now.
  3. Out of courtesy say Bonjour, but I can assure you that they will know you primarily speak English the second you finish. All tourist areas and especially Downtown is very English friendly. There is not much animosity today, especially from the 30 and under generation. I wouldn't go out of your way to proclaim your American though, no one cares and you might come across pompous. I would recommend visiting Old Montreal if you have the time. It has beautiful architecture, with stone streets and great restaurants.
  4. I would actually call the park, speak to guest services, or the FP building, if neccessary. I'm sure they will help out. It is not like they are going to sell out that day and you already paid and reserved. It does seem like a silly requirement. Just curious, what is your schedule? My family is heading that way that weekend too and we also have SFNE passes from an earlier trip. We will be hitting the Alpine coaster at Holiday Valley and Knoebels of the way down Friday. Sat, Sun will be Great Adventure and maybe something else like Dorney or Luna Park.
  5. My family had a blast on our annual coaster trip. This year was New England. Boulder Dash apparently got hit by lightning, so the trip to Lake Compunce and Quassy was cancelled for another day at Six Flags. For any Basketball fans, be sure to visit the Hall of Fame in Springfield. It was a big highlight on our trip, very fun. On to the Coasters! The extra funds made buying platinum passes a little more bearable, but $360 for four hurt the stomach. Alas, it is true that at that price, you usually find yourself at the front of the line with zero wait for WC all day. FP users enter the station first, which guarantees a first row ride every time. Pretty awesome, but after 4 rides, I really wanted to try the back seat. I ended up switching someone for the front, LOL. People must have thought I was crazy. Wow, what a ride! My 397th coaster and instantly entering my top 10. Extreme airtime, hang time and speed on a compact layout, make a great combination. RMC coasters do not get much better than this. Bizzaro was hauling ASS! It's as good as I remember it when I first rode in 2008. A few nighttime rides in the last row, cemented its place as my favorite ride in the park and my #3 favorite steel coaster. As a previous poster mentioned, last row is extreme air on every hill after the initial camel hump, including the drop. I waited 30 minutes for the front only once. It was smoother, but it's a back row ride, no question. Batman and Pandemonium were solid rides that we rode twice. All other coasters were disappointing, as expected though. Goliath was closed. I don't understand why they moved this thing. It was unreliable in California, now it barely runs here. Should have sold or scrapped it. The Sky Screamer is a nice addition to the park. Very high, but graceful and not very scary at all. I would also like to mention that I never had a problem with anyone all weekend. Never saw one line jumper. I actually talked to a few people in line, which I rarely do. I even let a fellow ride front row on WC with me, as he wanted to so bad. People were cheering me on as I played the 3 point challenge. Some stranger, fist pumped me after riding Bizzaro! Six Flags and the Springfield area gave me one of my best coaster trips ever. How about that!!
  6. We planned on going to the park today, however Boulder Dash is down for the next few days due to a lightning strike. Thankfully, it was posted to their website and Facebook page, which saved the drive and arrival disappointment.
  7. Absolutely untrue. A low Canadian dollar is the key to success for the Canadian Manufacturing industry. As anyone remotely connected to it knows that it could use every bit of help available.
  8. How many days were you trying to go? How many people? What days? I'll see what I can find in terms of discounts. 5 days, 2 adults and one 3yo, August 16th through the following Thursday. 5 Days! I don't know why you would need that much time at the park, but if so, a season pass is the only way. There are no other discount options for a visit that long. Carowinds does offer a 2 day pass, which is a decent deal for an out of towner.
  9. What a bunch of garbled hogwash. If CW or CF keeped all the money in Canada, then there really would be no loss at all. Alas, there's a problem,,, with almost 4 million visitors spending an average of $40 each, (I think that's low with food, merchandise and parking), they pull in a whopping $160 million minimum a year! When the American investors require their percentage points, rightfully theirs do to so, they feel it's a loss due to conversion. They are basically saying that they hire a fancy CFO, to trade money, (buy US funds), and pay debts, whenever the rates are favorable and try to sit tight when there not. What is not mentioned is that an American funded company like Cedar Fair could use their powerful dollar to buy and invest in the park right now, but it's all "woe is me" instead.
  10. You need to provide more details before we start recommending or discouraging. A "group" of certain friends could love or hate a Carnival or Disney Cruise, all depending on their likes, ages and situations. For example, I could go on and on how awesome Disney cruises are, but if your just interested in partying and drinking, Carnival would be better. That being said, I have found Royal Caribbean to be the best overall. Any Caribbean cruise on an Oasis size ship is an awesome vacation for just about everyone.
  11. 1. Black Mamba 2. Nemesis 3. Montu 4. Alpengeist 5. Banshee Honorable mentions to Afterburn and Great Bear.
  12. NICE! I love your tip. Front row, here I come!
  13. Schlitterbahn, Do not go on the weekend, stay on your Friday schedule. This park is terrible when busy, but world class fun when manageable. Your early entry will be all used up on Master Blaster. Then, do the other tower slides. Ride The Falls over to Dragon's Revenge. The other park is quieter in the morning, due to the water being very river cold, but I would stay and ride The Falls and Torent river until it warms up and then head to the old park. The old park has some awesome tube and boring tube rides. Whitewater is so intense, get ready to get dumped! Wear secure clothing. I want to go back, so fun.
  14. Wow, that's so Six Flags. Force people to sit where they might not want to. I mean what if someone who's afraid of coasters wants to ride in the middle, but gets stuck near the ends. Hopefully this is just temporary until the park can get everything ironed out. Reason why I asked is because I'm planning a trip for August, and I might have hit this, but I think that I'll wait till next year to see if things run more smoothly op-wise. It's not just Six Flags. It's becoming a popular trend at most parks during a new coasters' first few years. I visited Carowinds last month and the No Preferred Seating signs and announcements were quite prevalent on Fury325. Despite that, the day was dead and I simply timed my entrance into the que when the line disappeared into the station and got a front row ride! Popular coasters should all have extended front and sometimes back row lines. After say 10' cycles deep, then no more until the line dies down, but assign the other rows. So simple. I always wondered if you slipped the grouper $10, if they would let you pick a row, LOL. The best stragedy I have used before, is to talk to your grouper. This is more easily done with passes as you will likely be near the front of the line often and quickly. Simply state where your from, (small talk) and explain that you are going to try for a front row ride. You may not get it right away, but after your third consecutive time in line and jokingly reminding the grouper what your up to, you will probably get the row.
  15. My family of four are going that day too! As far as Flash Pass goes, always see how the park shapes up when you arrive. It's a Saturday, so it will be busy, be prepared. Always arrive BEFORE opening. A platinum pass, which is needed to go on Wicked Cyclone, is going to set our parties back $90 each, $360 total! The price is just too expensive for many, so even if it's packed, you will walk on almost everything. If money is no object, your going to have a fantastic day. If it's too much, only thing you can do is visit on another day, even Sunday is better. We are visiting from Canada, on a coaster trip. We have budgeted the FP if neccessary, because we may never return. If this was a park I frequent or my home park, I wouldn't splurge. We are visiting from Canada as well....NB to be exact. I really wish Saturday wasn't our only option but we have to be in NYC Sun afternoon. Our drive down to Mass is on Fri so that only leaves us one option day to head to the park. I guess we'll play it by ear once we arrive. I won't say that money is no object, but we could get the platinum passes if needed. It just seems like so much for one day. You say you can't ride WC without a pass? Is that only due to the line ups? Thanks for the info! It's Canada Day at Six Flags! Platinum is the only pass which lets you reserve WC. FP requirements can really be judged on what your goals, expectations and tolerances are. Are you arriving at opening? Are you staying all day? Must you ride every coaster? For example, if you hit WC on rope drop, (be there at 10am not 10:30am), then hit Bizzaro and Batman, you have just rode the best three coasters and it's probably not even noon yet. The rest of the park sans WC, can be done on a gold FP quite easily and fast. Heck, you could still line up for WC again, if you don't mind a 1h+ line. Since I've visited before, I am really only interested in multiple day and night rides on WC and Su,,, Bizzaro, while fitting in most of the other rides for other party members. The FP is likely my only way.
  16. I got to say, I had a great time at this park. The whole new entrance with the N/S Carolina border setup and Fury flybys is very neat and cool. Intimidator and Afterburn, make a solid trio. The pictures remind me of that fun weekend.

  18. When I went a couple weekends ago, the front row was the only row I rode in. When it comes to hyper-coasters, I only ever ride in the front row. So you've never done Nitro in the back row? It's like an entirely different ride imo. I find most B&M hypers, such as Behemoth and Intimidator, have better airtime in the front. Diamondback at Kings island has amazing, sustained, floater air in the back row, but very little in the front. Each coaster can be different, that's why it's important to ride on various rows, before you rate a ride.
  19. During that epic trip you will ride my favorite steel and wood coasters, SkyRush and El Toro, along with my second fav woodie, Phoenix. Have fun!
  20. And a broken WMG....and over a minute dispatches for Levi (crew doesn't even look motivated to try and beat the countdown clock). This is hard to believe. Wonderland's crew has become very efficient, especially with the added seat belts to the B&M's. Most time is wasted by the riders anyway and even if the crew is having a bad day, those coasters just fly through people, even when stacking,
  21. Nice list. I use coaster-count mostly, I just love grotto for the top twenty. Any other sites you use?
  22. Here is my top 20 and a cool site that shows logos for your favorite coasters. http://www.coastergrotto.com/top_20.jsp
  23. Wow, that's the complete opposite from what I experienced earlier this summer. They were going crazy on intimidator telling each and every train that they had like 20 seconds to get buckled in and checked before they sent the train out. There wasn't even a line at times because they were moving people through so quickly that it never had time to build up even with a reasonable crowd in the park that day. I guess there are some days where they are told to hurry, and some days where they aren't. Maybe the supervisor wasn't there that day. Same here. I went last Saturday and they were flying people through. I guess it depends on the crew. There was one particular op (stocky, curly haired, young fellow), who worked the ride all day that was very good at all operations. Kudos to him.
  24. We had a great time at the park the last two days. It's currently pouring down and I am at my hotel waiting to return for some night rides. Friday was awesome with walk on lines for Fury almost all day! I rode 5 times and finally got the front by manipulating my place in line, LOL. I understand assigned seating reasoning, but there should always be some room for front row riders to wait while assigning the other rows. Fury is smooth and fast. It's not as intense as I305, which is why it ranks lower on my scale, but still great nevertheless. Carowinds is very similar to my home park, Canada's Wonderland.
