I want to become a ride op.

Also, I'm not trying to be rude or insensitive whatsoever, but don't volunteer this information. Don't lie about it, but it's nothing you need to disclose unless you're asked about it. -

It's 2020. Everyone relies on emotion rather than logic. Try to keep that glimmer in check, even when the protests start... -
Both CCL and RCL stocks have been extremely low. RCL bottomed out just above $22/share today when it was valued in the $130's range in January. I'd honestly put any refunded money into shares. You'll be able to pay for several cruises in a year or two with the money dumped into the market. In theory, $1,000 in now, up to $5,000 out later.

These are the best words in this thread. You also may have to prove yourself for a season or so doing another job in the park before becoming a ride operator. -

The economy is too unstable for someone to consider making a purchase like this. -
But who's enforcing the order? No one. Even despite that, the majority of people are still staying in. My co-workers and I joked today that there might as well be a "please" at the end of Illinois' shelter in place order. You're always going to have your shitheads, but this isn't quite the mass hysteria that it could be. You have to give people more credit than that. Look at all of the companies that don't make medical supplies which are changing their product production to help with manufacturing essential supplies as quickly as possible. Has that even been done since WWII? Hell, Anheuser Busch is going to start producing hand sanitizer. People are volunteering to help hospitals sew makeshift masks. Even a selfish person like me offered to get groceries for my senior citizen neighbors. I can't remember a significant event like this since the World Trade Center attack. I'm about as cynical as they come and even I'm seeing the positive in people during this crisis.

Granted the source may be a little biased, but... https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-19/trump-touts-malaria-drug-as-potential-coronavirus-treatment It's not FDA approved, but US doctors are legally allowed to prescribe it for treatment of COVID-19. I'm not on the Trump hater bandwagon, but he really sucks at jumping the gun with his statements. Either way, it looks like the drug is mostly good to go for now, at least as an optimistic temporary treatment until a vaccine or better treatment option is discovered. IL is shutting down. I think an allout quarantine is in the works, which is the rumor. I had to squeeze in a haircut today, because my barber shop said they're waiting on word to temporarily close. Also, even our neighbors in MO are feeling the pressure. My orthopedic doctor across the river (STL) called me today and gave me great news that not only is my appointment for my rotator cuff tear on Monday cancelled, but they said to call them in ten weeks. Holy fffk terrible news for me! If surgery is necessary that will mean I'll probably be hampered by this for over year since my initial November injury. I stopped by Walmart and it was even more of a shitshow than I thought it would be. Almost all of the usual canned vegetables are gone, with I'd guess 75% of all canned good eats being gone. I grabbed one of three ramaining hamburger packages. I'd say 75% of other chicken, beef, and pork products were gone. The cheese was cleared TF out. No eggs were to be found. 90% of the frozen foods were gone. Diapers were almost gone. They miraculously had about 20 packs of toilet paper remaining that people were jumping on. There were zero disinfectant or sanitizer products available. Laundry detergent was almost bare. Not that I eat it, but it seems like Mac and Cheese is the new toilet paper, as it's almost impossible to buy now. People were noting it on my Snapchat and I had to see for myself! The good news is that all fresh produce is available, which leads me to believe that people are buying emergency items that they can freeze or easily store. I also bought several hundred shares of Cedar Fair (FUN) and Sea World (SEAS) on Wednesday when prices were damned good. It was a safe buy that will profit before too long, but I'll be damned if the prices didn't eat shit and fall of the charts later that day. I hope Chloroquine works out as a treatment and I hope even more that we can find a vaccine soon. I'm not hitting the panic button yet, but from a selfish economic standpoint this is very unsettling. Luckily, we're set up to make it through on one income if need be, but what a time to have a baby due in May! I usually don't cope with alcohol. But tonight, before I have to work all weekend, I'm having a few drinks.

We contacted customer service and got a voucher for one day at SF Great America when we weren't able to go to SF STL ahead of time for activation at our home park. Maybe they'll do that with memberships, too. I'd imagine at this point SF is going to do whatever it can to keep people coming to the park when they open. The veggie shop makes me laugh, because the only plentiful amount of food on our local grocery store shelves is healthy food, such as fruits and vegetables. It works out perfectly for Emily and I! Also, the no cars day seems fun and the geography of your home town looks beautiful!

It's coming. It's funny to think that our IL portion of the STL metro area is completely shut down, but you guys are still living somewhat normal social lives. Tonight and tomorrow are my days off this week. I'm tempted to go out to eat in STL now... Anymore, I don't like to bring up my career or talk about it. I feel annoying when I do so. But, if anyone is interested in how most of the local law enforcement community is responding, here are some of our changes and directives: *Proactive activity is completely discouraged, meaning no self-initiated traffic stops, warrant arrests, etc. *Reports in which would usually be taken in person and on the crime scene are being taken over the phone, unless necessary to respond for evidentiary purposes. *We make no non-violent/non-combative offender arrests. Court summons only, even on felony charges. Our department is one of the larger and probably busiest departments in the metro-east STL area. We house 40 or so Federal and County overflow inmates. Our main concern is them falling ill. (we care) *Encourage the public to come outside when having to work calls on scene for disturbances. The risks of contamination go both ways. I don't want to get sick and we especially don't want to make entire families sick by entering homes. (we care) *We're all discouraged from entering the station, unless necessary. *We will not enter businesses when conducting 'business checks.' Observations will be from outside of the businesses. *We will have to softly address any open bars/restaurants which are all supposed to be take-out and delivery only. *We are encouraged to wear gloves on every call. *We've been placed on telephone standby at all times, as per IL Law. If someone in a shift falls ill, it's likely that a lot of other people on the shift will also fall ill, since we work so closely together. Almost all departments function on short staffing, especially considering it takes about 7-8 months from your hire date to be sent to the next available academy class, complete the academy, and then complete field training. *We're encouraged to wash uniforms after every shift. They're normally good to be worn for several days in a row. Boots are encouraged to be left outside, which is a common practice anyway, but my wife still gets irritated that I wear them coming and going from work... *We don’t respond to nursing homes or senior care facilities unless there’s an active emergency. (we care) One thing that surprises me is the lack of directives or policy to disinfect cars. Most departments have shared patrol vehicles, meaning that at shift change cars are loaded/unloaded and operating 24 hours a day. Even when they’re maintained and as clean as you get make them, they're disgusting. Over the lifetime of a squad car for a busy department, they'll be contaminated regularly with sweat, urine, feces, vomit, blood, and anything else you can think of. The compartments from the back to the front are not airtight sealed. That, and every piece of evidence or physical contact gets spread throughout the cabin. You can smell it... There are a lot of people who are less clean than others and this translates into every profession. I'd think there would be mandated disinfecting cleaning protocol, confirmed via supervision, but there's not. I've always been crazy about cleanliness and sanitation, but not everyone takes several minutes at shift change wiping down their car and equipment. It's frequent that you don't have time if you have to jump right into things when you start work. I’m confident that our cars can pose the biggest risk to us. Things are honestly weird and eerily calm right now. I only responded to a few calls for service yesterday. During day shift, it’s normally non-stop. Weekend night shifts are non-stop with problems are bars, high crime clubs, fight calls, trouble calls, disturbances, and more. I’m really interested to see how that turns out with social venues being closed. I’m on day shift for another couple weeks, but that would be weird to experience that. Since media outlets constantly unfairly negatively portray us for attention, I’m sure some people have the idea that we're the apocalyptic Nazi's who are keeping everyone inside and locking down the city. But, this is a sharp contrast to reality. No one is patrolling the streets in SWAT gear waiting to punish those who violate social disruption policies. Right now it's all about calm public service response. We’re at an elevated risk along with healthcare professionals. We can’t shutdown our operations, unfortunately. (I can dream) It’s kind of a ‘not if-but when’ scenario of when this crap starts spreading among us. That’s great news with a pregnant wife! Worst timing ever. But I mean... I'm not saying that there's not a pool for which one of us is going to get sick first... As for the well wishes on the torn shoulder, I appreciate that. All I know is that I have a 50% tear, so who knows how bad it is and hopefully there will be no surgery, despite physical therapy not working. Crossing my fingers for my orthopedic appointment on Monday, but for now I’m still cautiously working full duty. I haven’t played hockey since November and my active lifestyle is in the crapper. Cardio is on-point, though… I’ve been wearing out the exercise bike we purchased since my injury and our treadmill is hurting! Lol One last thing. If you can: Buy market shares. Buy them now.

The layout looks a lot more interesting from this view. The sideways airtime hill looks really interesting. The turn into the helix from the airtime hill looks like it's going to pull a lot of positive G's. I know I'm not the only one who spotted that trim on the final large airtime hill, but we all expected that. I was really starting to have my doubts. Now I'm a lot more interested. A lot of people have compared this to Leviathan. I looked at a similar aerial view of Leviathan and Orion seems to have more exciting elements and less straight pieces of track, hills or not. -

There are other angles out there where you can see almost everything but the short speed/airtime hill. Even in the cold, Orion carries similar speed over the elements that Fury does. It's a short ride, but I think it will haul ass through the layout. -

I think it's too early to count out a wing coaster as the replacement, with a different layout and theme. I wish the Grave Digger coaster would have come to fruition, because of the cheesy hilarity of it. I wonder if that meant that they would have started to offer Nadi' light on tap. -

You have a good argument, but I'm still not on board for any government funding. I wonder if a temporary tax break for a few years might insentivise a new owner to step up to the plate and leave some room for further investments. It would be a compromise, but it might be a good long ball strategy. Then again, I don't know what kind of tax burden the park currently faces. It might be drops in the bucket compared to other expenses. -
New RMC coming to South Dakota proposed
prozach626 replied to jlp94's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I may be misunderstanding your post. Are you saying that RMC could get more positive publicity in the industry by putting a raptor in a smaller park instead of a larger park? I think if a smaller park can see the popularity a raptor will draw, even in a larger park with much larger attractions, this would be a lot more tempting. I'm sure RMC already advertises the lower cost. If you have a park with only one or two roller coasters and a raptor instantly becomes the top attraction, I don't think it will prove 'as' much as a raptor taking the spotlight away from big boy attractions. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding. -
