Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

If you don't split the cost of a hotel room for one night then Breakers is indeed pricey. Sure I can pack a few 'bros' into a hotel room and get discount tickets, but that's not how many of us on this site operate. I can assure you when Emily and I stayed for a couple nights in June three years ago our cost was comparable to some of the very nice beach front resorts and condos we've stayed at. I want to say that with our taxes and fees we paid around $400 per night. That doesn't factor in what we paid that season for Platinum passes or the FL+ passes we purchased for both days. All said and done, I know it was around $1,500 before we even addressed food and drink. With the total cost of everything from food, gas, drinks, and other amenities, I think we figured we paid pretty close to $2,000. Consider this: We stayed in a very nice two bedroom beach front condo on beautiful Santa Rosa Island in Pensacola, FL last August. It was right around $2,300 for the entire week after fees. We're talking a modern, updated, well furnished, beautiful condo in a nice complex, vs. a cramped hotel room with a window or two. (And in Bert's case a sh*tter that won't flush) Just for the hell of it, I just priced a room for this June at Cedar Point and it's $2,270 before taxes and fees. Add on what you would pay for tickets, any FL passes, etc., and you're not talking about chump change by any means. So when people like Bert and I say Breakers is pricey... it is. Granted, some of it depends on the type of experience you want to have, but Breakers and Cedar Point in general can be very pricey. -

I haven't purchased discount tickets for quite a while, but I always thought Schnucks Supermarkets were the best places to buy discounted tickets. Some personal tips: Make sure to ride Screamin' Eagle several times. Non wheel seats. Unfortunately, you'll be missing out on all of the leaves on the trees, but I love it. If you've never been on a Mr. Freeze model I think you'll enjoy it. JB's is a great place to grab a beer, sit on the patio, and hear Mr. Freeze's roar. There's absolutely no reason to ride the Antique Cars. Ninja = One and done Wear comfortable shoes for the hike it takes to get through Batman's queue. We have a decent train with two stations. It's worth a ride on both section. The Boss: Butt back, lean forward, grab the restraint bar, and don't sit on a wheel seal. We prefer the middle of the train. With that combination we love it. Otherwise, it's borderline torture. American Thunder is great. If I were going to subject myself to park food, I'd go to the Coney Dog place by the palace. I can't remember if that's the name or not, but you can get massive hot dog and covered in chili and cheese if you like. It's too bad you're visiting that early in the season. The park is a lot more green and charming during the summer, especially in the back half. Don't feel rushed, because you can get through the park quickly. -

I'm surprised that the park map didn't have an exaggerated emphasis on antique cars in their inaugural season. -

That's really cool. I loved the Bigfoot monster truck growing up. I worshiped it and remember eating lunch under the truck on Lindbergh pretty often. I remember my parents taking me to a monster truck rally at 'The Barn,' wearing ear plugs and having the time of my life. Ironically, I ended up being into small displacement foreign cars, with zero interest large motor American trucks. -

Make sure you get in touch with one of the higher-ups and let them know what they 'need' to do. You seem to have it figured out, with such an absolute word. -

Wait... A busy strip filled with graphic tee shirt shops, carnival rides, bungee jumping, tattoo shops, free moonshine tasting, cookie cutter tourist attractions, go karts, and a nearby hyper coaster make it one of the top areas in the country? Runner up: The Wisconsin Dells. It was a close call, since they both have a Ripley's Believe it or Not. -

We did Coaster Campout at Cedar Point last year. It was a blast and by far our favorite trip to the park. It's worth it for the experience. The only downside is that Carowinds isn't as large as Cedar Point, so spending two days there might get a little boring. -

There are several possibilities: 1) He's a troll. 2) He's a kid. 3) He's new to this subject. 4) He's read too many Facebook responses from the masses. 5) Ffck Firehawk. 6) He's just really dumb. My money is on #1. -

One of the reasons Cedar Point took down Disaster Transport is because it was a patched together piece of shtt. There were clearly also other plans for that area. The removal of Disaster Transport had nothing to do with any supposed lack of interest in dark rides. A really good coaster will be memorable to guests no matter what type it is or what records it may or may not break. Phoenix shouldn't be different enough for the average person to remember. Nor Mystic Timbers, for that matter. But, people seem to remember these ordinary wooden roller coasters. Wow. -

Props to CP making improvements to Steel Vengeance to increase rider satisfaction. I'm glad they installed handle bars on the trains. I think it will make it much more enjoyable for Emily and I. It was a bit too violent for us with nothing to hold onto. -
SV literally drew no one. Why can be speculated and argued at length, but them's be the facts. Mystic Timbers drew a lot of people. Well, Steel Vengeance drew me and friends, so I think that what you meant to say was "figuratively." We flew in and took a mid-west road trip mainly inspired by the draw of Steel Vengeance.

Yes, but even bigger and faster. It would be a side note to the new vintage tee shirts and banners. -

This is all irrelevant if the ballroom has been significantly altered. But, assuming it hasn't been molested too badly, I don't know if Cedar Point wants to completely wreck the ballroom by installing a dark ride and getting rid of a piece of park history. I also think it's a lot more complicated than just putting up some walls, laying some track, a little wiring, and a lot of high tech screens. Just because you have a large building that doesn't mean it's always suitable for a dark ride. For all we know, it may be cheaper to construct a brand new building specifically designed for a dark ride. Adding a wooden coaster isn't like putting up a few games and installing a new shitter. Just because it's at Cedar Point it doesn't make a GCI wooden roller coaster so insignificant that it won't bring crowds. I wouldn't compare installing a GCI to buying a base model Kia Forte. Regardless, ffck new coasters and dark rides. Bring on the log flume. -

It was great. I didn't want to get in the pool, but my wife really wanted to. We only swam for about a half hour or so. It was enough to cool us off. It ended up being really refreshing, since it was very hot outside. We didn't do any of the slides. -
