  1. ^ That is random, indeed, but when you can tell whether a passing commuter train is being pushed by its locomotive or pulled by it---without even looking at it---is a feat of randomnation that trumps them all. Eric
  2. So, after cruising all the main drags that Ventura has to offer, I made one final run down the closest one to the beach and settled on The Habit for lunch. And besides, they're tearing up the street right in front of my house, so I figured I'd better get out of there before my car got dirty. Eric
  3. This looks like a lot of fun. I noticed they had traffic lights along the course...interesting. My guess is that if they're yellow or red, then you'd better slow down or stop. Eric
  4. Yep. And the movie, too. Have you ever stapled your finger?
  5. It's a backup for any possible underwear failure. Why can't they recycle Styrofoam?
  6. Nope---my local Kmart, which actually happens to still be open. How do you write the number "eleventy five thousandy six?"
  7. "The weather guy at my work doesn't think that motorcycles should be allowed to park in parking spots." (spaceace12) In my opinion, motorcycles ought to double up in "regular" parking spaces or there should be smaller spaces for them (some lots have those). Taking up an entire space with a motorcyle is no different than taking up two spaces just because you drive a huge truck or don't want your car's doors dinged. The ideal thing, obviously, is for parking lot designers to design realistic parking spaces. "Compact" spaces? LOL! Get real. How many times have you seen a dually or a Suburban parked in one of those? Eric
  8. In defense of the mods, I'm one on another site, and when you see people doing the same thing over and over, and you warn them over and over, and they keep on doing it, getting frustrated becomes quite easy. My biggest peeve, as everyone knows, is the HORRIBLE spelling and grammar that you see. Makes you wonder how much texting in English class some of those people do/did instead of listening to the teacher and doing the work. The site I mod is fairly easy; here, there are so many more active posters, making the work that much harder. Eric
  9. ^ I really don't think they could. In my opinion, being able to design a safe, thrilling ride by the "seat of your pants" without relying on a compter takes a lot of talent. And many of today's rides, despite being designed by computers still produce rough, uneven rides. Of course there are other factors involved, but still... Eric
  10. Banana fanna wo-witch, me my mo-mitch...WI-ITCH!!! How is it that you can spill a glass of water, then when you mop it up and squeeze the mop, less water comes out of it than what you spilled?
  11. "I know that on Aircraft carriers, at least for the landing cable, they replace them every like 100 landings to prevent a cable snap" (atem122) The Navy has looked into replacing their cable launching systems with LSM technology (at this time, I don't think they're still pursuing it). So apparently the military is looking for better ways to launch aircraft off of carriers. I don't know why Intamin went back to cables to launch the trains on their rocket coasters. Saving energy, perhaps, as LSMs/LIMs take some power. However, I've heard that the hydraulic system isn't exactly an energy miser, either. Y'think coasters might go back to relying on a free, plentiful source of energy, like gravity? Eric
  12. That wouldn't be possible because in no time, there will be Starspeeder 3000 service to every point known to man. Why are there so many different prices to attend theme park Halloween events?
  13. Because I brought it back from the dead, I did, I did. Why do coupons always say that they have a value of 1/20 of a cent, even when they save you a buck or two on whatever you're buying?
  14. Using red and yellow encourages guests to buy more hamburgers and hot dogs by suggesting the typical condiments that people use with them. Where is the best place to sit on a train?
  15. Lunch at Del Taco, $3.99. Eric
  16. You must be taller than he is. Why did they choose blue and red flashing lights for police cars?
  17. Why does Hhappy's name turn red when the cursor is over it? Eric
  18. "Unless anyone's heard of an 80mph elevator..." (Me) "It's acceleration, not speed, that puts stress on cables." (Kennyweird) I figured, but an elevator would have to accelerate to 80mph. Eric
  19. Maybe the B&M is going for a ride to another Six Flags park. There've been several relocated, so why not one more? With some Six Flags parks "trading" coasters, it's made me wonder which ride at SFMM will be traded for another? Is it possible that Scream! was put in the parking lot with no theming to make it convenient for dismantling and relocating...? Eric
  20. ^ I honestly don't think SFMM would be too concerned with a bunch of rides all over each other. If done right, it wouldn't be a bad thing. Next year's coaster may not be a big one anyway---perhaps a wild mouse type or a spinner, and they don't take up much room. While I have not personally ridden a Tony Hawk or Dark Knight coaster, something like that fills the gap between "kiddie" and the "Xtreme" that SFMM is known for. Capacity on those isn't so great, but then neither is it on X2 and Deja Vu, as has been pointed out. Not everything that will appear at SFMM will be big and themed. And I don't think it needs to be. Eric
  21. ^^^^ Everything Evan1127 said times ten. Money talks. Money drives the world. "We want the world's tallest coaster in the entire world and we want it to go reeeeeally fast, but we only have $X.Y million to spend, so make the track 1200 feet long. 'K thxbye." All sad, but true. Eric
  22. "...but the drop towers are OTIS elevator cables." (Papas) Otis (to my knowledge) makes very reliable elevator systems, and they had a hand in the design of Disney's Tower of Terror rides, too. However, normally, elevator cables aren't run as fast as they are on these rides. Unless anyone's heard of an 80mph elevator... Eric
  23. First the drop tower at SFKK, now Xcelerator. Where does Intamin buy its cables? Eric
  24. "But the weight of the B&M trains probably had as much to do with the ride's demise..." (SirClinksalot) Actually, Tim Burkhart has said that the trains' weight wasn't as much a factor in Psyclone's ultimate fate as the poorly built structure was. Eric
  25. ^^ In all of my 15 years as a SFMM season passholder, I've never received a renewal notice/new ride info till after Fright Fest, so my guess is that all of that should go out sometime in November. ^ As far as I know, no one has confirmed where the 2010 attraction is supposed to go. Also, we don't know what the area where Flashback once stood will be used for. A Hurricane Harbor expansion makes sense, but who knows? Remember that Freefall's demise cleared up some space, and I've heard some rumblings about Tidal Wave being removed. But again, those are just rumors. And Wiggles World is supposed to come to the Mountain sometime in the next couple of years. Eric
