  1. It is a good week to visit Knott's for the Boysenberry festival. I visited the park on April 9, Tue for a few hours and got to try some of the Boysenberry items. The food was good and there were no lines except for Ghostrider, Log Ride, and the front row of Xcelerator, and I would place each of those at approx 30 minutes. The food stands and other rides might have a 5-minute wait. I checked the park cams today and the park also appears dead compared to the last couple of weeks.
  2. I am a little confused. If you live or stay there, are you just allowed to use the water park whenever you want and is it covered in the HOA or hotel fees? It would be cool if you could just float around in the lazy river every afternoon with a margarita.
  3. I visited Knott's and nothing is new on the rapids construction and it looks like the railroad tracks washed out again in the recent heavy rains. Knott's has replaced the taco restaurant near the hat dance in Fiesta Village with a new hot dog place. The location is on the dining plan. "Whether you are in the mood for a good ole classic hot dog or looking to spice it up a bit, you’ve come to the right place! Fiesta Dogs has a delicious selection of all beef hot dogs, dressed up baked potatoes, as well as beer and wine including craft beers, import cans, and Michelada. Feeling adventurous? Try the Spicy Sausage with jalapenos or the Mexican Dog with bacon and peppers, just to name a few. Like your baked potato plain? No problem. Like your baked potato dressed with bacon, chili, peppers, onions, and cheese? We’ve got that too. Kids’ dog, chips, and a Vegan dog area also available. With seating in the nearby plaza, Fiesta Dogs is the perfect place to grab a meal and enjoy the festive environment of Fiesta Village. Gluten-free bun is also available upon request. Fiesta Dogs is a quick service location in Fiesta Village between the rides La Revolucion and Hat Dance. Dining Plan Options Plain All Beef Hot Dog Chili Cheese Dog Mexican Dog with bacon and peppers Bratwurst with sauerkraut Spicy Sausage with jalapenos Foot Long All Beef Dog with peppers and onions Vegan Dog on a bed of peppers and onions All hot dogs served with choice of chips or baked potato." 4. I have the feeling that Scandia knew about this for a couple of months. The rides were originally listed up for sale on Nov. 2, 2018, and doesn't appear that anything has sold yet. Since the drop tower, Tilt-a-whirl, and carousel have not been offered for sale, I am guessing that is all that they were planning to keep those few attractions. 5. Go less than a mile down La Palma to Portillos. They have a Combo sandwich that is like a French Dip with a giant link of spicy Italian sausage on it. Then they dip it for you in the beef gravy. That with a frosty schooner of beer. Yum! Good price and one of the tastiest things I have eaten.
  6. It looks like there is an "Under Review" Developmental Plan with the City of Ontario to turn Scandia into a 178,462 SF industrial building.
  7. I visited last Friday, Feb 1st, to get some photos of the park in case it closed. These could be the last ones. Exterior Arcade Several games have been removed. 8. I don't think Colorado people are the biggest amusement park fans. Every time I visit Denver, they just want to get in the Subaru and see what's at the top of that mountain over there. Some friends and family state they went to Elitch in high school and Lakeside is too close to the corner of Crack and Pipe for them to want to visit.
  9. Thanks for all the info. I think I like the original "Confederate Critter Show" name better. How very PC... "The origins of The Rock-afire Explosion can be traced to Tennessee. In 1977, Fechter sold his first animatronic bear to Magic World in Pigeon Forge. He subsequently created the Confederate Critter Show, a pre-Rock-afire animatronic band, for the East Tennessee theme park. (Fechter has said that part of Billy Bob's "backstory" is that he's a country bear from Tennessee.)"
  10. Does anyone remember The Rock-afire Explosion at Showbiz Pizza? I remember these as a child and sorry they are gone now. They had the best pizza restaurant animatronics ever.
  11. Is it generally a good idea to own stocks for companies whose products/services are based solely in the elastic area of the demand curve at 10+ years into an economic expansion? Most experts state that we are overdue for some type of recession or depression and these stocks always have their best percent-off sales at that time. Does anyone have an argument otherwise?
  12. If Elitch closes, they need to send the Arrow shuttle to Frontier City in Oklahoma City and reassemble Lightnin' Loops. https://rcdb.com/151.htm#p=22413
  13. I want to say I am upset at this but I have visited Denver several times and Elitch doesn't appeal to me. It is a bad ride catalog in prime real estate with a good view of downtown Denver and the Platte River. Casa Bonita and Elitch will end up as the only attractions that I will probably never visit in the area, yet I have made it to both Lakeside and Water World multiple times. I am not saying Lakeside is much better than Elitch but it has some flat rides I can't find in bigger parks.
  14. I can think of a couple reasons water rides might have lost popularity besides maintenance costs and water scarcity: Most amusement parks have their own waterparks now, so if they are going to invest in a water ride; they might as well put it in the waterpark. Amusement parks are trying to stay open more year-round and water rides have limited appeal outside hot summer days. Trackless water rides are limited in height and speed and since we have hit those limits; it is hard to break any water slide or flume records without it getting too dangerous. A new 50' or 60' tall slide sounds more impressive for a waterpark than an amusement park, as amusement parks are already full of bigger drops.
  15. Did you mean Timber Falls in Wisconsin Dells is demolishing Avalanche and the log Flume? https://www.timberfallspark.com/
  16. A few photos from Friday, Nov. 16th. The rapids ride has a new sign but not much other work showing. Hollywood Hits pizza is now Beachy Keen's Pizza and serves Dole Whips. There is quite a bit of Christmas decoration up now. New rapids sign Bend where dynamite water effects should be added Hollywood Hits is gone New place has Dole Whips Christmas on the boardwalk Christmas burgers Christmas ghost town
  17. My plan of attack would be to visit on a Friday and go on the coasters during the day before the park gets busy at night.
  18. Elon Musk will be boring an underground tunnel network from SFMM to Universal to Knott's and then to Disneyland/DCA. It will be nicknamed the Underground River with Knott's being the Calico River Territory stop on the line. The other stops along the line will be condos and apartments designed to take theme park enthusiasts for every penny that they make. Either that or I have been taking Ambien and reading the internet again.
  19. What cost savings? Does CA force them to pay for health insurance on those 6 week positions or something? I doubt there are any cost savings. Typically employers will go to a temp agency when they were not able to find enough employees on their own or their HR department couldn't handle the volume of work. I am guessing with low unemployment and competition with retail and delivery industries for seasonal workers that the talent pool is slim and temp agencies have a greater volume of people that jump job to job and might be available. I am positive there is a cost savings. I would assume they are paying ESP a flat rate for the maze hosts instead of their own variable costs for training, wages, workers comp insurance, wardrobe, administrative costs, etc. The temp agency takes those costs from the employer but they add it on to the hourly rate. Then they add on another 30% or so for profit that the employer wouldn't have to pay if they direct hired themselves. Every time we have had to order temps for our insurance claims offices; management complains about the obscene rates they pay per hour for the temps. Then you ask the temp and they are getting like a third of what the agency charges per hour.
  20. The tower does have safety features including water tanks in the tower and evac areas under the observation floors that are bare concrete and steel construction with low chances of burning or producing smoke. The problem becomes that the elevators may not open immediately after the fire and you may need to run downstairs to pee and refill your alcohol and beers
  21. now if anyone is bored, you can time the dispatch intervals on ghostrider. No joke, but I am now going to look at that video in the morning to determine if they are running one or two trains before I visit. Typically Haunt weekdays have two train operations and lesser waits to weekdays with no Haunt operations.

  24. I am sure the stairs are there for people to escape the tower in the event of an emergency that knocks out the elevators. The fire dept may have to climb them but most people would be running down them if they were ever put to use.
