California amusement park guidelines are out. The document is easier to read and more detailed than my summary: https://files.covid19.ca.gov/pdf/guidance-amusement-theme-parks--en.pdf Widespread (purple): Closed Substantial (red): Closed Moderate (orange): Smaller parks can open with modifications Capacity must be limited to 25% or 500 people, whichever is less Outdoor attractions only can open Reservations required Local attendees only (from the same county as the park’s location) Minimal (yellow): Larger parks can open with modifications Park capacity must be limited to 25% Reservations required

It doesn't state they are closed for good, but it sort of looks that way. Pharaoh's Lost Kingdom / Splash Kingdom in Redlands, California has had a sad 20-year decline with two new fires this year. https://ktla.com/news/local-news/2nd-fire-to-erupt-at-vacant-splash-kingdom-water-park-in-redlands-this-year-investigated-as-suspicious/

The water park slides expansion and new ride were probably planned and purchased back when Phil Ruffin purchased Circus Circus before COVID struck, so they likely couldn't back out. Phil is Trump's good friend anyway, so he can't let a fake virus keep him from his improvement plans The place kind of needed something new, and they could always use the new additions to steal market share so it is not a complete loss in a bad year. -
I am showing the theme parks are closed even in counties in the "Minimal" lowest group. It looks like amusement parks are still a separate discussion. https://covid19.ca.gov/safer-economy/ https://spectrumnews1.com/ca/orange-county/business/2020/08/28/governor-s-new-reopening-plan-does-not-include-disneyland--knott-s-or-other-theme-parks CA’s New Reopening Plan Does Not Include Disneyland, Knott’s, or Other Theme Parks By Joseph Pimentel Orange County PUBLISHED 7:14 PM ET Aug. 28, 2020 ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. — Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Universal Studios Hollywood, and other theme parks across the state will have to continue to wait for the governor’s guidance on when they can reopen. Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday announced a new process for reopening businesses across the state amid the coronavirus pandemic called Blueprint for a Safer Economy, but it did not include guidelines for theme park operators. What You Need To Know Disneyland and other theme park operators still have not received guidelines from the state as to when they can reopen Gov. Gaving Newsom unveiled a new process for businesses to reopen The closures of Disneyland and other theme parks have hurt Southern California's economy Newsom said he is working with theme park operators on how to safely reopen theme parks When asked by a reporter on when Disneyland and other theme parks can safely reopen, Newsom said amusement parks are a separate business category and that he’s working with theme park leaders on guidance. “We are working with them,” Newsom said during a press conference. “We set our discussions aside on that. It is a very dynamic conversation, and so we didn't include it in the update today. That is a separate conversation.” Even the minimal counties have amusement parks closed. Activity selection

Just wondering. We agree that the virus started in China and a mask may slow it down. How did South Korea, Japan, and the other Asian countries avoid getting their countries infected resulting in a bunch of deaths? They didn't shut more stuff down, they just wore masks and didn't complain about it. Brazil, India, Russia, and good chunks of the USA said screw masks and the virus is going everywhere. Japan and South Korea are closer to China and are doing a lot better than Arizona or Florida right now. -
Correct, the aforementioned lawsuit is one of the situations which led to today's version of the Disability Access Service Card. The new policies were put in place specifically to curb abuse. I agree with the child swap and current disability access card, but the last time the Disney parks allowed disabled people immediate skip the line privileges at either coast, the policy was horribly abused by non-disabled people. Either the rich or the dishonest people lied for cards or paid others for their access. I was glad we were not repeating past mistakes. It was well known from online posts that Disneyland couldn't ask you to prove your disability, so the disabled lines grew as long as the regular lines. So, I guess my problem is more with the mass of dishonest people compared with the few actual disabled people.

A smart judge in Florida ruled with Disneyworld that being autistic doesn't entitle someone to an unlimited front of the line pass under the ADA. He correctly ruled that it would cause other guests unreasonable delays. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/judge-sides-disney-case-autistic-221058000.html Part of the text ... "Lorman, president of the Autism Society of Greater Orlando, said the extra waiting was hard for her son who didn’t understand the concept of time. At Disney, he needed to visit the rides in a particular order or he would have a meltdown, she said. She had asked 10 passes to the Magic Kingdom so her son could ride his favorite attractions by going directly into the FastPass line. If Lorman’s son got special access, others would see it on social media and demand it, too, the judge said. “Requiring the modification, based on the history of the former system, would lead to fraud and overuse, lengthen the wait times significantly for non-disabled guests, and fundamentally alter Disney’s business model,” Conway wrote."

I stopped by the park on Tuesday to pick up some Boysenberry BBQ Sauce and asked when they might re-open. The employee said they were hoping for sometime in July. I just checked their website and it looks like Knott's is hiring for both the amusement and water park, so hopefully, that is a good sign. Newsom was supposed to come out with the requirements for stage 3 re-opening this week, but I guess he got busy with the riots.
