What's wrong with the Boomerangs!
SoCalJasonland replied to FireRat's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Another point is If you pay a lot of money to travel around the country, the last thing you want to do it ride several Boomerangs, many B&M Batman clones, the same Vekoma suspended coaster, etc... Locals that don't travel tend to not notice all of the repeats and don't care. This board is filled with more of the people that travel and don't want to ride the same coaster at different parks. -
Now I remember the Carnival Eats episode. Chicky's took a giant dill pickle, cored it with an apple corer, stuck a hotdog in it, battered it, and deep-fried it. It must have been the Big Pickle Dog. I wonder what will sell first? The Corkscrew from PNE or the old Scandia Screamer from Ontario California. The Corkscrew has loops and is half the price, so who knows. www.rides4u.com/view/3234 Corkscrew www.rides4u.com/view/3277 Scandia Screamer

This is the old folk song we used to sing while we were building' the log ride: I got my first real construction job Got it at the Knotts Berry Farm Worked it 'til my fingers bled Was the summer of sixty-nine Me and some guys from school Worked together and we tried real hard Jimmy quit, Jody got married I should've known we'd never get far Oh, when I look back now That summer seemed to last forever And if I had the choice Yeah, I'd always wanna be there Those were the best days of my life Oh, yeah Back in the summer of sixty-nine, oh We were building that log ride

Trying to plan trip to Cedar Point
SoCalJasonland replied to klsmith's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Two days with Fastlane should be good enough to ride everything. All of July is very busy and attendance will not drop off until mid-August. As you can see from the current wait times that some of the better coasters can be one to two hours without Fastlane on a Monday morning. If you stay on property you also get into the park a little early but I have no idea how much that is worth it to you. -
Lake Compounce Discussion Thread
SoCalJasonland replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow, I missed this thread but Parque Reunidos is also responsible for running our local park, Castle Park in Riverside California, into the ground. Our log ride broke a couple of weeks ago when a log flipped and ejected people and I think there is a rule that at least three of Castle Park's major attractions must be broken at any one time. Our Screamin Demon coaster, fireball, spider and log ride are all broken/closed. -
Your second paragraph centers around Ohio. That area of the country is still losing factory jobs to automation and foreign countries, so the economy isn't as strong as other areas of the country. As far as CGA, I live in So Cal and planned to visit one day on my CF Platinum Pass. Unfortunately, that one good ride hasn't convinced me to spend the money on travel if the rest of the part is substandard to Knott's or SFMM in So Cal. That park was neglected far too long when they were considering closing it.

Elitch Gardens Discussion Thread
SoCalJasonland replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If you want to hit both parks in one day, I would recommend: 1. Fly into DIA and arrive about 8 - 9 am. 2. Take the "A" train to Union Station, about 40 min / $10.50 3. Walk approx. 1 mile to Elitch Gardens and stay until bored 4. Uber to Lakeside (approx. 5 miles each way from downtown) 5. Uber to Union Station when finished with Lakeside 6. Take "A" train back to the airport from Union Station The light rail train is nice, clean, picks up at the airport, and runs past midnight. You can get discount tickets online for Elitch at their website. Groupon has discounts for Lakeside but -
Elitch Gardens Discussion Thread
SoCalJasonland replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I haven't noticed gang problems or violence at Lakeside. It is just a little run down and spooky in a Silent Hill or Final Destination kind of way. I would definitely not plan on eating or drinking anything at Lakeside though. Elitch is actually a nice walk from the light rail station that runs from the airport to downtown. It is worth taking for one of the legs. -
Assistance with schematic Japan trip
SoCalJasonland replied to Kstr737's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You will need an international drivers permit before driving in Japan and obtain it before you visit. Per the US Embassy: https://jp.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/local-resources-of-u-s-citizens/driving-in-japan/ -
I had an afternoon appt in Rancho Cucamonga on Friday, so I stopped by Scandia for some photos and see the demolition process. The demolition permits have been issued but I don't see a demolition date yet on the city website. All rides appear to have been removed except for the pirate galleon. I got these photos from the fence around the property. Empty bumper boats Golf course No water in the golf course fountains No water in the golf course fountains Front entrance area Big coaster station Old ride buildings Scandia sign and missing drop tower Last ride

Since I had to work in Orange Couty twice this week, I went back to the park on Friday. It was drizzling with a lot of school kids for some festival of music, so I didn't last long. First off, I got to commend a disabled person for having the guts to tie up a beagle and take him through Snoopy's home park. Then, for once, a disabled person thought I was crazy and didn't know what I was talking about. Perhaps it was the beagle's choice and led him here. I don't know. Many of you have seen the fake rooster in front of Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner. The real rooster is smart and hangs

Wednesday's visit to Knott's was nice. Despite having quite a few busses in the east lot and north dirt lot, the park was relatively dead. Ghostrider and Xcelerator got up to a two train wait at times and log ride had a 10 min wait, but no waits for anything else. There are some cats living in the Ghostrider line on the opposite side of the line from the Pan for Gold attraction. I finally asked why the pan for gold smells good sometimes as they have something heating on a little stove. He said that was chlorine from the water baking off when they dried the sand on the stove. I feel s

Yeah, why not Buffet-related names like "Parrothead Plunge" or "Wastin' Away Again Lazy River"? The names might be brilliant. They spend millions building this place but nobody hears about it unless you spend millions more on national marketing. So then you name your water slides after Twitter Hashtags and people feel the need to tell everyone else how stupid your names are on Twitter. The true Parrotheads are offended, see how awesome the complex looks on the website, and decide to support their persecuted leader with a visit. The park would rather encourage people to post/advertise

Yes... they have ponds/fountains, dropped food, greenery, and for the most part, they are not harassed or force evicted. Geese and ducks normally nest in shrubbery near bodies of water, so a shrub next to a fountain or water ride containment pool looks like a natural home to them. Six Flad is unwilling to let Yosemite Sam or Elmer Fudd fix the problem, so the geese and ducks never leave

New lighted coaster wheels.
SoCalJasonland replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If the lighted wheel concept fails because the wheels wear out too soon, you could just put LEDs on the sides of the coaster trains and use induction chargers above or underneath the trains in the station to recharge them. The wheel covers or anything else on the trains could be lit and not need to modify the wheels. LEDs can follow a chase pattern if you want them to appear to rotate or move, so the wheel rotation is unnecessary for movement.
