Which park is the biggest pain to visit?
megametal replied to Jackdude101's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree with that! Mine was... interesting. I live in Franklin and made that trip a few weeks ago. 58 to I-77 to I-81 to Pigeon Forge. Once we got to the mountainous part of 58 it got fun, but before and after that was quite annoying. -
Carowinds Discussion Thread

Have you ever been to Carowinds and ridden their God-awful offerings? A 50 million investment could have given the park several excellent offerings to improve the park. You need a huge rollercoaster or else you wont get business? Maybe Disney needs to reconsider their model I hope the retrack on hurler makes a big difference, I've ridden it without trims and it becomes a much better ride... it could see a good improvement from fresh topper. The retrack on thunder road was night and day, glad they're going to finish it. The new color scheme on afterburn sounds unnecessary and frankly, unappealing... whatever. The article on the 300ft "wing coaster" sounds like BS. If it is some sort of wing deign, I can't imagine it being b&m. Um, I wasn't talking about the theme park when I said business. I was speaking of businesses outside the park (specifically hotels), as they were discussing in the meeting. If Carowinds doesn't build new rides, especially noticeable ones, no new hotels will be built like they want. (And yes, I go to Carowinds at least twice a year.) My comment had little to do with the ride and more the reaction of two of the board members at the meeting, who seemed unconvinced that a big coaster would bring money to the state at all. I will admit that there's more development around the park on the South Carolina side, which seems to be a sore spot with the board, but refusing to help fund anything on the NC side isn't going to help with that. At least it was voted up, anyway. -

Wow. It was interesting to read the full write-up. Thought it was funny that some of the members were like "Screw this! This'll help South Carolina instead of us. No thanks!" And not building a marquee attraction in the next 3 years will bring businesses in? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense... Not. -

Looks like Cedar Fair is going all in on beefing up the former Paramount parks. Be interesting to see if redoing that first curve on Hurler does anything to help it. It wasn't painful to me until about 2004. -

I'm sort of hoping they rename the main restaurant in Safari Village back to The Hungry Hippo. Still, unless there's a retheme of FOF, I-305, and BLSC, the themeing still won't be right. -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

I had tears of joy in my eyes when I read the announcement earlier today. I've been going to KD since I was born and love the fact that the owners seemed to know that it had lost something in the past 15-20 years. This is way better than any new coaster in my opinion. They basically sold the public on general park improvements, which is usually pretty hard to do. Ingenious! Um, anyone else ready to start a Matt Ouimet religion? -

I wonder what enhancements Anaconda could be getting? In my opinion, it's removal would be an enhancement, but I guess this announcement means they don't want to get rid of it. Hmmm. New shoulder harnesses like some of the new boomerangs have? -

Even Kings Dominion hasn't announced anything for next year yet. -

I'm not a fan of Knoebels food. However, I'm not too adventurous with park food and stick to bbq sandwiches and burgers mostly. I hear their pizza is good, but amusement park pizza has never been good at any other park, so I didn't try it at Knoebels either. -

So are they still planning to redo the entrance-way to the park and redo the parking lot/driveway traffic? -

Why is Batman: Dark Knight considered so sub-par? I plan to head up to SFNE next year. Sure it's small, but is it forceless? -

American Thunder was my favorite coaster at the park last year. The only wooden coaster there that had any airtime and it was definitely the smoothest too. -
Hypersonic XLC at Kings Dominion. They bought a prototype that had a launch, a hill, and a turn... but unlike TTD or Kingda Ka, it was not very tall, was down a lot, and had one of the slowest moving lines I'd ever seen. KD is my homepark, but in the 7 years the coaster was there I rode it maybe 3 times as the line tended to be so long and the ride was literally about 15 seconds from blast to brake run. Glad they got rid of it.

So now that Canada's Wonderland has announced their interactive dark ride in their mountain, I wonder if we could see something similar in ours in the next few years. There's plenty of open space in there, as Volcano actually doesn't use much of the mountain's interior. -

Better if they just demolish Hurler and put a completely new RMC coaster in its place. The thing is trash. -

Yeah, if a rumor is confirmed, it's no longer a rumor. It's a fact... Unless you're confirming there IS a rumor. -

What year did they get rid of the old queue line and start the long meandering queue for the Rebel Yell? Was it the same year they switched the sides you enter the train on? I'm guessing so, as that'd make sense. It's been in its current configuration since I first started riding the ride in 1994, so it must have been before that. -
The Most Shocking Ride Removals
megametal replied to Kingsislandfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Probably Haunted River and Time Shaft at Kings Dominion. They closed at the end of 1995, and the mountain was left vacant until the end of the summer in 1998. (They had to hollow out the mountain, and they had cut the top off, but the GP didn't know what the heck was going on at the time.) The rides were pretty darn popular still; Haunted River more-so than Time Shaft. Haunted River always had a pretty long line, and it was the park's best themed attraction.
