Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
megametal replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Kind of wish KD had done to Rebel Yell what Carowinds did to Thunder Road, as it's changed Thunder Road from one of the worst coasters at Carowinds to one of the best. (Rebuilding each year another section of track until it's basically all new with the same exact design.) It even gave me some great airtime last year. -

I'm really torn because I've always wanted to ride a B&M dive coaster but I really want to ride I305 as well. Does Griffon live up to the hype? Not in my opinion. It's probably the least best adult-sized coaster at Busch Gardens. -

I remember the train was still in the station for many years after the ride closed. Back around 2003, I believe, it was finally removed. I would ride Avalanche just to see it. -

According to a poster over at Carowinds Connection, Intimidator still had no seat belts still, as of April 5. -
Most of the roughest ones I've ridden (been to 27 parks) have been demolished. (Hurricane at Myrtle Beach Pavilion, GASM at SFGAdv, Son of Beast at KI, Rolling Thunder at SFGAdv, Viper at SFGAdv, Two-Face at SFA on which I majorly chipped a tooth. So I'll leave those out.) Great American Scream Machine (SFOG) MInd Eraser (SFA) Timber Wolf (Worlds of Fun) Shockwave (KD) Hurler (KD) Ninja (SFOG) Mean Streak (Cedar Point) Anaconda (KD) Hurler (Carowinds) - This was always in worse shape than KD's but I hear it's much better this year

Sea World just put out a line by line list of all the inaccuracies, outright lies, and deceptions used in Blackfish. And already you have people on there talking about how it's Sea World spin. Like Flat Earth Society people, there are some people that take pride in being stupid. Warning, it's a PDF file. 69 Lies in Blackfish

Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread
megametal replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Have you been to SFGAm? I believe it's better. You should try it! And I meant in terms of rides and preparedness of the park. Yeah, I've been there too. Spent two days there. It was a great park too, but doesn't have the same feel. Also, guest relations there was horrible. They backtalked a lot of people while I was in line there to tell them my friend's car would have to be left in their lot overnight. (He lost his keys on Superman, because he forgot to put them in the zippered pocket he had.) Someone was trying to find their lost child and were told to wait their turn behind people wanting to know about lost phones or security would be called. Very pushy staff, impatient staff there. They were fine to me, but I lost respect for them after the security woman wouldn't let the guy with the lost child have priority. As for rides, I think St. Louis has a great selection. 3 great wooden coasters there. Great America has only 1 great one. (Those trims on American Eagle ruined the ride for me. No airtime either. Felt sluggish after the helix.) The only disappointing coaster St. Louis has is Viper, and it's not too bad. And the park has shade, which Great America doesn't really have except around Demon. I reiterate that both parks are great, though. St. Louis also isn't as crowded. Ride operators were great at both parks. St. Louis should be open after dark, though like GAm is during weekdays. Both have stellar waterparks as well. -
Why Does Everybody Hate on Six Flags?
megametal replied to eltororider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^ SFA rarely has the crowds to justify two train operation, even on opening day. As for Batwing, if they ran two trains, it wouldn't help. It takes them so long to load the trains and unload them that the other train would just be out there with the sun beating down in their eyes for 10 minutes. Better to just remove the coaster. Carowinds takes just as long and frequently only runs one train as well. Kings Island is a little better with theirs, but it's still a hassle. As for Ragin' Cajun, the park had already said "Ragin Cajun is under way and will be ready to ride mid-May!" It wasn't expected to be open and they had said this days before. Still, having Roar closed and rides opening and closing all day as I heard about on their Facebook page is sad. Someone said they had to wait 30 minutes for food too. Honestly, I guess Washington area teens just don't want to work there. I don't blame them with the lack of trees, the type of guests the park gets, and the low pay. All I know is that I have had a fun time every time I've gone despite everything. The workers there are actually a bit better than the ones at Kennywood last time I went there. (They were grumpy, too busy talking to coworkers to open lap bars or let people on the coasters, dispatching, pretty much everything.) -
Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread

Actually, from my experience, it is one of the better parks in the chain. Out of the Six Flags parks I've been to, it was the nicest one with the best staff. -
Pedro's World at South of the Border in South Carolina. Park was there for years (I think Pedro's World is gone now, even though South of the Border is still there) and I don't think I ever saw the rides run more than twice. I didn't even try the ferris wheel it looked show sketch, and I believe the observation tower (which is still there), they don't allow people to go up anymore.

I do wonder how much longer DaVinci's Cradle can last... The last 3 years I went to the park, it's been down every single time I went. I've been told it's been neutered as well, and they have a rule that they stop the ride if anyone puts their hands up on it. Sad state for what used to be the best flat they had.

Busch Gardens was cold (about 42 degrees most of the time I was there), windy, and rainy today. However, they had all the coasters up and running, so kudos to them for that. Park was pretty dead, crowdwise. They had us all park in the first lot, and even that wasn't filled. Most of the flats were not running. (I think only the two in Fiesta Italia, The Flying Machine and Le Catapult were.) Still, was a great time for the 4 hours me and my sister were there. Ate at the Festhaus and saw the weird little fairy tale show they had going on in there, which I honestly didn't think was that good. (But the food was, which is what's important.) Also saw the Irish dancing show for the first time, which is usually considered the best the park has. And I regret never seeing it until now. Europe In The Air is still as horrible as ever. (I don't care if they just bring back King Arthur's Challenge, but please do something to get rid of it. Compete with KD's nostalgia trip and bring back Questor if you can, even.) Looks like something's going on with DaVinci's Cradle, as the bottom part of the ride had caution tape around it and the ride is sitting idle at the top area. Le Scoot looks like it's having some refurbishment done or something. (I wouldn't want to ride it in freezing weather anyway, though.) I think I saw cfc as me and my sister were on our way to Apollo's Chariot, but we were in a hurry to get that ride in before Celtic Fire or whatever it's called, so I didn't stop and say hi.

I was actually pleasantly surprised when I rode Dare Devil Dive two years ago. Great hangtime in the last inversion. I can agree with you on Ninja, though. Horrible coaster. -

I wonder if we'll experience the forces that Alpengeist gives... It kind of reminds me of a sprawled out Alpengeist with the bigness of it. A bit more spread out and different elements, though. -

Carowinds Discussion Thread

Wild Bull was a Schwarzkopf Bayern Kurve. Very few of those left, and the company doesn't exist anymore. Really no way they can bring that back without sending California's Great America's one to Carowinds. Whirling Dervish was sent to Great America about a decade ago and Carowinds got a Yo-Yo (one that doesn't actually yo-yo like it's supposed to) in it's place. Doubt that's gonna change either. Flying Dutchman... those are still made, but why would you want it? The Balloon Race ride in the kids area runs on the same idea. And the ride is boring as hell. How about a Vekoma Mad House to remind people of Blackbeard's Revenge? Oh, and Oaken Bucket, Surfer, etc aren't coming back either. They don't make those anymore. Haven't in decades. Only like 3 parks in America have Rotors now and I believe Surfer was one of a kind in America. Insurance would never allow that ride nowdays. -

Me too! Previously I'd only eat at Wings or Country Kitchen, as those were the only places that had indoor seating really. (Besides the one place in the kids area.) This is a great addition in my POV. -

Carowinds just announced waht's going in that big lot in front of Intimidator. "Food news Friday! There's a big project underway in front of The Intimidator, we're excited to announce Harmony Hall Marketplace, a new dining and entertainment destination with an open food court design, tons of delicious dining options, and live shows daily!" People commenting on the news on Facebook are of course, stupidly annoyed as usual. And people are pissed that GR8 SK8 may be gone. Kings Dominion people don't whine this much. Must be something in the Charlotte water... -
Think I'm going to have to get a Busch Gardens 2 park pass next weekend, as it's the same price as just Busch Gardens pass until the end of the month. I go to Busch Gardens every year lately, but I haven't been to Water Country in over 10 years! I haven't been impressed with their additions since Meltdown... This year's addition looks good though. Say, did Festhaus open with the rest of the park, or does that open later in the season? I'm gonna need my big lunch of 3 different german sausages, sourkraut and potatoes that I always get when I go to the park. (Always surprised at how much they give you for the price on that one!)

Yeah, what a bunch of whiners. Hmm. New coaster or closer parking... Seems like an easy choice to me.
