  1. Now, this might not be the case, but from my experiences working in attractions, it sounds like they sent a good amount of staff home early due to the closure of many rides. By the time they had re-opened the rides, they did not have enough staffing to operate multiple trains and it would be difficult to call employees back into work. Plus, as you said above, the employees were told to tell guests that they anticipate a full-day closure, which is a really bad sign, so be happy that you even rode Goliath and Poltergeist. I don't see why you would call out the park for having bad management as they cannot control the weather and would not keep a large attractions staff when few attractions are open for the majority of the day, due to high winds. As I said before, this might not be the case, but this it sounds like this is the likely situation.
  2. As a San Diego local, I'm really intrigued about this thread. I can't wait to see more information about this.
  3. Well, one side is abandoned, so wouldn't there only be one side running backwards and one side closed, like how Colossus operated in Fright Fest 2013?
  4. To be, or not to be, that is the question— Whether 'tis ‘Cuda Falls in the mind to suffer The Slings and Arrows of outrageous enthusiasts, Or to take Arms against a Sea of confusion, And by opposing end them? To cringe, to sleep— No more; and by a word, to say we end The Heart-ache, and the thousands of shocks That property is heir to Darien Lake? 'Tis a consummation Devoutly to be wished. To cringe, to sleep, To speak, holding to Dream; Aye, there's the problem, For in that sleep of day, what dreams may come, When we have shuffled off this supposed tragedy, Must give us pause. There's the respect to the slide That makes Calamity of enthusiasts: For who would bear the words and suggestions of time, The enthusiast's wrong, the proud man's Contumely, The pangs of despised Love of the ride, the news delay, The insolence responses, and the words That impatient merit of the unworthy news that is released, When Darien Lake themselves might be the quiet make With an announcement to come? Who would hype it up, To grunt and cringe under a weary life, But that the dread of some ride after supposed rehab, The undiscovered news, from whom want so desperately No News returns, Puzzles spread, And makes us rather bear those ills we have here, Than state speculation of things that we know not of. Thus Conscience does make Enthusiasts of us all, And thus the Hopeful hue of Resolution Is impatient o'er, with the pale cast of Thought, And enterprises of great hope and moment, With this regard ‘Cuda Falls turn awry, And lose the name of Action. Pray you now, The fair ‘Cuda Falls? Thy water slide, in thy circumstances Be all my words remembered.
  5. That stinks. I really liked the Citigraph map and thought they were going to keep it since they added Gold Striker on it.
  6. Those new effects on the third lift look amazing.
  7. How about this? I think two of them are enough already. Hope that Premier will come up with something even better. I find this to be ironic since this is a suggestion to a replace a Vekoma boomerang.
  8. Some changes to my list: Already visited this year: -LEGOLAND California -SeaWorld San Diego Definitely: -Knott's Berry Farm (going tomorrow) Very Likely: -Adventuredome -Buffalo Bill's Likely: -Hersheypark -Knoebels -DelGrosso's -Lakemont -Kennywood -Waldameer -Cedar Point Possibly: -Castle Park -Pacific Park -Scandia Ontario
  9. Except that Flight Deck isn't getting renamed...
  10. Xcelerator's launch. 'Nuff said.
  11. ...I don't even know what to say? I guess they re-built it when Six Flags dropped the rights to Terminator.
  12. I originally intended the idea for California's Great America to rename Flight Deck as "Stealth Hawk" to be kind of a joke, but now I think that CGA should rename Flight Deck to one of the names that I listed and yes some of the suggested names will contain the words "hawk" or "stealth"! ."Stealth Phoenix" ."Redhawk" ."Stealth Bat" ."Stealth Beast" ."Storm Hawk" ."Stealth Flight" ."Stealth Dragon" Um. OK...
  13. Wow, Cedar Fair actually made an improvement to a park map! This map looks a lot nicer and I like how it is easier to see what rides that younger guests can go on. I hope that other Cedar Fair parks use this park map style. Just look at how much cleaner the new map looks next to the old map: New map: Old map:
  14. Examples? Looking at the anniversary list above, anniversaries seem to have no effect on the parks choosing what rides will come. Renames and repaint are nice and all, but nothing to the extent of a B&M coaster that people are discussing here.
  15. Cedar Fair typically doesn't do gimmicks like this.
  16. I think you're probably right. Makes sense, anyway. Cedar Fair loves giving parks big attractions for their anniversaries, so no use in giving them a coaster the year before it, and then slides for their 40th! Since when did Cedar Fair focus on bringing big attractions on anniversaries? Canada's Wonderland 30th anniversary (2011) - WindSeeker (with Leviathan built the year after) Carowinds 40th anniversary (2013) - Dinosaurs Alive! Cedar Point 140th anniversary (2010) - Shoot the Rapids Dorney Park 130th anniversary (2014) - New water slide Kings Island 40th anniversary (2012) - Soak City (Boomerang Bay renovation) Knott's Berry Farm 70th anniversary (2010) - Snoopy's Starlight Spectacular Worlds of Fun 40th anniversary (2013) - New water slides In case you don't understand this list for whatever reason, this is a list of the recent "decade anniversaries" of Cedar Fair parks. I see no coasters in this list.

  18. Since I live in Southern California, I'll put my opinion on the parks: Disneyland Resort: Two amazing parks that really blow away every park in the West Coast with spectacular theming. Not much more to say as this is the expected. SeaWorld San Diego: I'm always relaxed in this park and feel like it is very well taken care of. The staff is great and very friendly and the park features some really good theming, especially Wild Arctic and Shipwreck Rapids. The operations on Manta are great, allowing me to easily go on it over ten times in the row during offseason mornings. It's only been a short amount of time since I've been going to SeaWorld frequently, but I'm really enjoying what I'm seeing. LEGOLAND California: This is the park that I loved as a child and still love it to this day. It has great atmosphere and, honestly, you don't need to be a child to enjoy this park. The staff is great and friendly and the park, like SeaWorld, feels well taken care of. I've been going to this park religiously in the last few years, so they are certainly doing something very well. Knott's Berry Farm: Knott's had some rough times recently, though I applaud them on their efforts in improving the park, and they're doing a great job at improving! The operations are nothing amazing, though they are rather good. The park has a very balanced collection ranging from Disney-level rides (Log Ride) to, in my opinion, the best coaster in California: Xcelerator. This park has a ton of things to do, heck you can easily spend hours looking through Ghost Town. Who knew that there is dinosaur poop, shark eyes, and a toothpick Eiffel Tower all in different locations in Ghost Town. (For those who are going to Knott's soon for the first time, spend time in Ghost Town. Once, you look closely through it, you can see the greatness of this area of the park.) Honestly, I don't understand why many people say this park has nothing to offer after half a day as I can easily spend ten hours in the park and still have more to do. (I went to Knott's for over ten hours many times.) Six Flags Magic Mountain: The park features a decent collection of coasters, though they do suffer in mediocre operations. The park does have a good amount of shade and does provide a ton of exercise. The park has lately been not focusing on some of its older attractions, making many of them seem like they are in disrepair. While it does not serve quality well at all, if you prefer quantity for whatever reason, than this park has all the quantity to offer! (Though, there is so few things to do other than wait in line for coasters.) Hooray for posting about the San Diego County parks. They are in Southern California too!

  20. You do realize that MiA is the smallest Cedar Fair park, so they aren't going to make as much money as the larger parks...
  21. According to CF's Fun Forward, MiA is making some decent money for the size of the park: http://newsplusnotes.blogspot.com/2012/01/cedar-fair-is-looking-fun-forward.html
  22. Waldablog posted two interesting posts about Ravine Flyer II: http://waldameer.blogspot.com/
