It has been a while since I've last put in a post, but like it or not I'M BACK!!! Methinks this was the type of attraction that was to take over after the demise of Twisted Twins. After my last trip and surveying this area while I was riding Mile High Falls, I did notice an empty circular area in which the Zeppelin ride use to be and a couple of small buildings. I thought to myself Methinks that whatever new attraction they bring to that closed area, they should also open those buildings so they can be serve once more, and maybe put in a flat ride to fit that circular area. In other words, I think they would do more to that closed off area than just redo Twisted Twins and put in Storm Chaser. THE STORM CHASER - ARE YOU CHASING IT OR IS IT CHASING YOU?

Your guilty pleasure ride
palmerleeberry replied to DanTheBooker's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
All right, folks, are you ready for a confession? Okay, there are certain parks that have these low altitude spinning boat rides that I love to ride so much. I'm talking about the Flying Pirate Ships at Six Flags America, The Santa Maria at Six Flags over Georgia, and The Flying Dutchman at Kentucky Kingdom. Do you want another guilty pleasure ride I like to do? I will also try to ride the Carousel, but sit on the bench seats. Hey, sometimes we riders and amusement park flyers like to ride low impact rides in between those thrill rides to help us cool down and recover for the next thrill ride. -
"Yessiree Bob, I betcha this should get them kiddies and their parents out to their park!" So I went online to check out this park ( which I find is located in the UK) and it seems that they do have plenty of rides for the family, and a few thrill rides for those kiddie who are soon-to-born riders. According to their website, they listed three coasters, only two that would be classified as thrilling. Adding two more thrilling coasters will be ideal for that park and great for the UK. The only downsize to this will be us riders in the USA wondering why can't we get a coaster like that for any of our park here? Oh well, I'm sure there will be a park out there that will consider getting their own Custom Junior Boomerang.

Worst Ride Replacements/Downgrades
palmerleeberry replied to Pyrozooka0's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow, am I the first one to reply to this thread? Okay, here it goes . . . From Kings Dominion, I would have to say the old Galaxy coaster ( plus the two flat rides to the left and right of that coaster) being replaced with the Shockwave. It's been nearly thirty years and I still cannot let it go. -
What's Your Coaster Philosophy?
palmerleeberry replied to Coaster Cow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Okay, I have some philosophies on roller coasters, but not on the structures themselves, but with the riders. 1) If you are single rider and another single rider wants to ride with you, then let him/her. With a partner to ride with, you won't get frown upon nor booed from the others waiting for a long time in a line, plus it's more fun to ride with two. 2) Sometimes it is okay to change partners to ride with, so that person can ride without breaking any of the park rules. This has happened to me several times. One in particular was a wooden coaster in which you had two sisters that wanted to get on. One was tall enough to ride, but the other needed an adult to ride with. So I asked them if they would like to ride with me, since I was an adult and a single rider, and they accepted with glee. 3) If someone doesn't want to go on a roller coaster, then don't force them too. That is why many amusement parks have carousels and other low-impact rides. That philosophy goes the same to any ride, regardless of how thrilling it is. 4) If you need to scream, please do it when the train is going down the first hill, not when the train is leaving the station. However, cheers and whoops and clapping of hands is not just permissible, but highly encourage ( especially on the Rebel Yell coaster at Kings Dominion). 5) Last, but not least, HAVE FUN!!! Ancient Chinese saying - He who breaks park's rules will soon break bones. -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
palmerleeberry replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oh yes, the long-gone and forever lamented Hypersonic XLC, a coaster I thought would stay for a long time. I'll tell you about airtime - one year, I put a booklet of Kings Dominion's coupons in my back pocket and rode in one of the middle seats. After I got off the ride, I reached to my back pocket to grab my booklet and it was gone. The airtime over that hill was so great it managed to pull that booklet out of my back pocket. I never did locate that booklet, but no big deal; I wasn't going to use any of those coupons anyway. Oh well, that was a trip down memory lane. I know what's going into the park for 2015, but who knows what will be going into the park for 2016. Will it be another roller coaster that will forever alter the skyline ( Like Fury is doing to Carowinds's entrance) or something else that no other park has seen before? Call me when we get to that announcement. kINGS DOMINION - THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!!! -
I have to say that you lucked out to attend Silver Dollar City for their Christmas Season on a day with summer like weather ( I wish I could say the same when I went to Kings Island on Halloween weekend and the temps were near freezing with 25 mph winds. I decided to go bowling and catch a movie instead ). I'm sure with the warmer weather they even had their water rides running ( or not if they were already closed for rehab, but the Flooded Mine would be the exception unless the water froze over). I don't think I ever visited a park during their Holiday Lights Event, but I bet with all those pretty, bright lights around it'll make you feel like you are in a wonderland.

What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
palmerleeberry replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My last coaster I rode during the 2014 season was the REBEL YELL COASTER during the weekend of King's Dominion's HALLO-WEEKEND. I decided to wait until nightfall before riding this coaster. The experience turned out to be H, E, double hockey sticks! First, they were only running one side of the coaster. Second, the longest line I've ever seen were waiting to get on, but I didn't mind because I was planning to ride up in the front. Third, as a single rider, I ended getting bumped up to ride with another single rider, which I didn't mind. Finally, this other rider ( who was a female and even fatter than I was ) became my definition of "The rider from H, E, double hockey sticks!" The coaster car was finally dispatched ( it took a while because Miss Fatty had a hard time with her seat belt) and we were on our way. We get to the lift hill and we suddenly STOPPED!!! Miss Fatty starts to panic and was screaming and I was telling her to calm down. Ten long minutes later, they finally get the lift hill moving and it's a long time until we reached the top. As the coaster car begins to go down the first hill, Miss Fatty starts to panic and screaming again and she grabs my arm. Most men don't mind, but I DON'T LIKE TO BE TOUCHED BY ANYONE, so I slapped her hands away and told her to use the handrails, but she doesn't listen and grabs my arms real tightly and won't let go. Folks, when that train arrived back at the station, I was happier than a snake around a belly dancer's torso when I got off. I rode the Rebel Yell many times for many years, but that had to be the worst ride I ever had. As 2015 season approaches, here's to having many wonderful rollercoaster rides and none of them with Miss Fatty. -
^I couldn't tell you about Sunday, but going to Kentucky Kingdom late in the season is a good idea because you don't want to do what I did and go too early when all the ride attendants are still in school and not being able to go on certain rides until later that day. Plus, when the new rides are operating in this season, they tend to have fewer break downs later in the season than compared to the beginning of the season. And you would want extra time to lose enough weight so you can ride Lighting Run ( unless you're already a skinny-wink, then that won't be a problem ). T3 - IT'S BACK, IT'S RED, AND IT'S AT KENTUCKY KINGDOM!!!

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
palmerleeberry replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've said this before in an earlier post that they should do a show on what happens inside the park during the off season. I can see a series like this run on Discovery or the Travel Channel. -
Well, a seven-story fireball ride would be a nice fit into the park and bring more stuff to their Mardi Gras section, but I can see other areas that they could put in some more rides. One - The empty area next to Roar and across from Shipwreck Fall - they can put in a Rocking Tub ride. Two - The area next to the body slides where the old Ferris Wheel attraction used to be until it got moved to Whistle Stop - I can see them put in a ride like Holiday World's Liberty Launch ( they got the line, so why not put in a ride). Three - In that wooded area behind Coyote Creek and Mind Eraser - I can see either a log flume or a mine train ride. "What I want to see is you coming back to bed. I miss you.

Unusual flat ride
palmerleeberry replied to tanthonyam's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Holy Moley! That looks like one wicked flat ride. Methinks that is one ride I wouldn't mind trying out. -
I might be possibly the only rider who actually liked riding Apocalypse, in fact, during my last visit during FrightFest I rode it twice: once early in the day and the second time at night. I also rode Superman during the day. When I was standing in line to enter one of the haunted mazes I was telling a crowd that I planned on visiting all the haunts, plus ride two coasters at night. One of them replied, "I bet one of them will be Superman!" "Nope," I replied. "It's going to be Apocalypse and the Wild One." "Oh come on, Superman's more fun at night!" the man retorted. "I have no qualms against Superman," I answered. "But the restraints were hurting me and I couldn't enjoy that ride. Apocalypse may be rougher, but I can handle their restraints. Superman's restraints were cutting into my ankles and I recently injured them, making them sore. All the other coasters don't have restraints that binds the ankles like Superman does." I'm sure that next season, my ankles should be at 100% and I'll be able to ride and enjoy Superman once more.

Bad coasters that have a glimmer of hope
palmerleeberry replied to fraroc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Take all Arrow steel-looping coasters, remove the head-banging horse collars, and put in the over-the-shoulder restraints that are used in rides such as Hersheypark's Sidewinder and Carowinds Carolina Cobra and you'll see and feel how much better those Arrow steel-looping coasters will become. "I wish they'll change these restraints; I'm getting killed out there!" -
Methinks the solid color scheme of red on T3 could be their tribute to their local college - The Louisville Cardinals. We may be only seeing one part of the picture; we know the color of the layout, but what about the color of the trains? And will the trains be the same color or will one train's color be different from the other? Wait and see, we'll just wait and see. T3 - IT CAME BACK!

I might as well add flat rides into the mix because a flat ride in one park can actually run differently compared to another same flat ride in a different park. During my 2009 amusement park tour in which I visited plenty of parks, some of them I've never been to before, I made the commitment to ride all the scrambler rides and see how they compared to King Dominion's Scrambler. Let me tell you, although a scrambler ride is the same, the rides they projected were all different. Some ran faster than others, some were a bit noisier and rougher, and the one at Cedar Point had this ride cycle in which you reached top speed in a few seconds, but after a minute you began to slow down until you came to complete stop within forty seconds. So whenever I visit a park that is way beyond my home park range, I would try to ride their flats and see how it compares to the ones back home.

When I first rode Maelstrom in 1990, I thought it was a good ride, but I didn't feel any thrills when going down the two ramps they had. But the fact that the boats went backwards in the middle of the ride was a complete surprise to me ( C'mon, I mean, how many boat rides in 1990 went backwards in some point to the ride?). The last time I rode it was in 2006 and that would be the last time I would get to ride it. Whatever changes they make to it, I hope the new "Frozen" attraction would provide a much worthy replacement to the Maelstrom. As for the closure of Maelstrom, I guess I have to "Let It Go"!

It has been a long while since I've visited Six Flags Fiesta Texas, but with Iron Rattler and the brand new Batman- the Ride coming next season, I know I must get to Texas before it's too late ( don't ask me what I mean by "before it's too late"; I'm just making this up as I go along). Let's just say that if you haven't been at the park recently, then next season would be the perfect time to make up for lost time. By the way, nice TR report.
