  1. Why couldn't people be smart? Is that too much to ask? Does it really take a good thinking through to figure out that a double amputee with no legs fell off of a ride that wasn't designed to restrain him in that condition? Or does everybody listen to stupid little girls who like to be drama queens? These aren't related to the theme park industry specifically....a physics course in high school and a moment of thought is all anybody would ever possibly need to figure it out (this is if they have no common sense)....and there's no excuse for listening to little girls rant and rave.
  2. Nobody gets special treatment if it's for their own safety in a situation like this. A guest is a guest, and they should all be aware of what they can and more importantly what they cannot do. It doesn't matter if he's an Iraqi War vet, the only place where that makes a difference is the image of the park in court and on the newspaper.
  3. Was it possible that the Ops just didn't care/think anything of it? Sounds ridiculously stupid, but aren't there times when we all make really bad choices when we don't necessarily care? Granted-this was a big eff up on their part. He's an amputee, an otherwise normal guest, even if he did lose his legs in the Iraqi War, he still can be told no to protect his safety and well being due to his condition. If a lawsuit was claimed because he was not allowed to ride (probably not by the veteran, because he of all people should realize that there are certain limitations) Darien Lake would win on grounds of safety. Nobody would have been physically hurt that way. EDIT: ^Yes, it's not the job of a guest to know the rules, but it is the responsibility of an amputee to know what the limits of safety are. Roller coasters are insanely safe if you follow all the rules and regulations, but they can and will cause problems when they are ignored. Very tragic.
  4. ^Well...that's better than what the person mentioned in the post above yours said. The track is like 90% percent identical on the whole, and there's little to no difference visually. Still pretty bad though. I saw a family go up to a game at a park and ask how much the teddy bear was. When the carny said no, they got all heated up and started yelling at the poor sap for refusing to sell the damn thing. I didn't hear what was being said, but the carny was standing there like he was about to say,"I don't give a shit if you want it or not! I've dealt with you idiots before." And the little 12 year old girl with them started crying like a spoiled brat.
  5. ^^^^I hate you. Now I'm really REALLY hungry for chocolate cake.
  6. ^Those and all the pics are great! Thank you very much for being either the first (or one of the first) TPR members to document this neat little park! P.s. It's now July/Juli/juillet/luglio (for the Italians ).
  7. La mer, trois esquisses symphoniques pour orchestre-Debussy (does it make me a nerd that I know the whole French name?) Right now I'm in the first movement. New recording I just bought and this is the best version that I have yet (I have 5 versions )!
  8. Enter the keys...or just read some of the answers on nolimits-exchange's forum.
  9. Where was the ride stopped? On the lift? One of the people interviewed said that once it stopped he though it'd be restarted within minutes...and that'd be the only place 60 feet in the air where you could stop and start the ride.
  10. Resurrection (non-intended reference)! I recently taken a great liking to composers that, in the past, I had little care for-Namely, Bartok and Shostakovitch. There's always the old favorites from them (e.g. Concerto for Orchestra & Novorossysk Chimes) but I've really started looking past those to hear more and more of their music. I've also started delving into Dvorak's extensive pile of chamber music which I had previously only heard a very few works (American Quartet included). Gustav Mahler remains my favorite composer of large-scale symphonies. The 2nd, 5th, 7th (whoever said the outer movements is alright in my book), and the ever popular but seldom performed 8th. I don't really listen to his work that often, due to the duration mostly, but they still hold a special place in me. Am I the only one who thinks Ralph Vaughan William's A Sea Symphony is one of his better works? Right up there among his 'top hits'? I especially like the opening statement, regardless of it's simplicity-just a B-flat minor fanfare with a response by the choir (and orchestra) that starts in B-flat minor and switches up to D major (if I remember correctly) with a huge sound and out of that chaotic mess comes the next theme played by the strings. Who here likes hemiolas in a climatic moment? Such as in the 4th movement of Dvorak's 9th toward the beginning. I do. I think they're one of the most powerful rhythms you can use. And here's some of my favorite works, so let's compare! (I'm still editing them to get more of them in that I my have missed) An incomplete list of some of my favorite symphonies include (in no particular order): Beethoven: 3rd, 6th, 9th Brahms: 3rd Debussy: La Mer (I know the subtitle says 3 symphonic sketches! But it's closer to a symphony than anything else) Dvorak: 9th in particular, among others Mahler: 2nd, 5th, 7th, 8th Schubert: Unfinished is my favorite of his, but the others are very enjoyable. Shostakovitch: 10th is very powerful, among others of course Tchaikovsky: 4th, 5th, 6th Vaughan Williams: A Sea Symphony, Sinfonia antartica, & the usual complement Incomplete list of favorite symphonic poems: Borodin: In the Steppes of Central Asia Debussy: Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune Dukas: The Sorcerer's Apprentice Liszt: Les Preludes (and most of the other 12) Moussorgsky: Night of Bald Mountain Saint-Saens: Danse Macabre Scriabin: Prometheus: The Poem of Fire Rachmaninoff: The Rock Incomplete list of favorite concertos (loosely used): Bach: Double Concerto for Violin Beethoven: Emperor (piano), Violin Concerto in D, Violin Romance No.2 Chopin: Piano Concertos No. 1&2 Dvorak: Cello Concerto Elgar: Cello Concerto, Violin Concerto Haydn: Trumpet Concerto Lalo: Symphonie espagnole (almost a concerto...) Liszt: Piano Concertos No. 1&2 Paganini: 1st & 2nd Violin Concertos.. Rachmaninoff: Piano Concertos No. 2&3 Saint-Saens: Havanaise (violin), Cello Concerto No. 1 Sarasate: Carmen Fantasy (violin) Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. 1, Violin Concerto in D, Variations on a Rococo Theme (cello) Incomplete list of favorite works for solo instruments: Beethoven: Pathetique, Moonlight, Appassionata, & Les Adieux (piano sonatas) Chopin: the etudes, grande valse brilliante (the E-flat), Valse du petit chien, Fantasie-Impromptu, Nocturnes Liszt: the opera-fantasies (Don Juan in particular), Hungarian Rhapsodies, Grande Galop Chromatique, Actually...there's far too many in this category to even think about naming a third of them. Incomplete list of favorite operas (all types): Berlioz: Carmen Mozart: Magic Flute, Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro Puccini: La Boheme, Tosca, Madame Butterfly Rossini: Barber of Seville, William Tell Saint-Saens: Samson et Delilah R. Struass: Salome, Elektra Strauss II: Die Fledermaus Sullivan: Pirates, Pinafore, Mikado, Yeomen Tchaikovsky: Eugene Onegin, Iolanta, Queen of Spades Wagner: The Ring Cycle, Flying Dutchman, Parsifal, Tristan und Isolde, others... Incomplete list of favorite suites: Debussy: Suite Bergamesque, Children's Corner, Images pour orchestre Borodin: Polovtsian Dances Grieg: Peer Gynt Grofe-Grand Canyon Suite Holst: The Planets Moussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition (Ravel Orch.) Rachmaninoff: Symphonic Dances Rimsky-Korsakov-Scheherazade Sibelius-The Tempest (under construction still)
  11. Because an American would threaten to sue if they saw a slightly rusty bolt or a dirty tie. Or they would claim that it would make the ride unsafe. Smart people reside in Japan.
  12. ^^Is that the whole 1.8 update? The one style? Are there some other things? The site has yet to be updated... EDIT: Nevermind. Saw on NLE.
  13. ^But their current actions involving the park looks like they're leaning toward option the second... Seriously, get your crap cleaned up and get the hell outta there, Danny Rogers! It's not worth saving! If it had, the quick-smart Six Flags people would've shown some initiative 5 or 6 years ago. However, by leaving it in it's current state of neglect and abandonment, Six Flags has inadvertently gotten groups of people interested in turning into a park again. ^^I like your thinking. I'll bring chocolate. Whether it all makes it though the odyssey to N'awrlins is not my responsibility.
  14. Yeomen of the Guard (just listening to the score)-Arthur Seymour Sullivan, 1950 D'Oyly Carte recording.
  15. Steel Eel appears to be the most rounded of the Morgan hypers. From Wild Thing on, it appears that each consecutive hyper is slightly more rounded than the last. Steel Force more than Wild Thing, Mamba more than Steel Force, Steel Eel more than Mamba, Superman more than Steel Eel. It's only a slight change from one to the next, but Wild Thing has way more straight track than Superman, even though Superman is 12' taller.
  16. Tonight we prepared the modern equivalent of Aristophanes' much-famed dish: Lopadotemachoselachogaleokranioleipsaneilsmellsnodrimhypotrimmatosilphioparaomelitoyphophattoperisteralektryonoptekephalliokigklopeleiolagoiosiraiobaphetraganopterygon No, not really. I had hamburgers.
  17. Glorious Title Fairy, creator of all things humiliating, inducer of embarrassment, instigator of fights between fire and ice, may I have a custom title as you see fit? Nothing too awful please.
  18. ^You have a huge signature... Just wanna point that out. Also, are you saying my pic was valid, or yours was? I'm trying to get good pics... As for that park, I have no idea. I'd guess La Qua.
  19. ^They've already made it. Loop-de-Loop a la Coney Island with a 13' loop.
  20. ^^That'd be Grizzly. I think the new rule makes it way too easy... This doesn't follow the new rule, but it's REALLY REALLY easy-it also helps that there are only like 10 of this type operating.
