The power of the Force and the magic of Disney have combined to create “Star Tours – The Adventures Continue,” a new 3-D attraction set to open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park on May 20, 2011. The attraction also will open at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif., on June 3, 2011. Based on the Star Wars films, Star Tours will take Walt Disney World Resort guests to multiple Star Wars destinations where they will interact with characters from throughout the Saga. And it will all be in 3-D. With eye-popping 3-D digital filming, a dramatic musical score and motion simulator-based technology, guests will be immersed in the Star Wars galaxy like never before on a theme park attraction. Walt Disney Imagineering worked with Lucasfilm, Ltd. and Industrial Light & Magic – the groundbreaking visual effects division of Lucasfilm – to bring the out-of-this-world attraction to life. Star Tours, which had thrilled Disney Parks guests since the 1980s, was “powered down” at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2010 so Imagineers could begin work on the new attraction. And in a new twist, guests may be able to enjoy the attraction multiple times without ever experiencing the same adventure. More than 50 story combinations are possible for guests to experience aboard Star Tours. Just as the Star Wars films immerse movie-goers in storylines that keep them on the edge of their seats, Star Tours will feature multiple stories and scenarios that will hurtle park guests throughout the Star Wars galaxy. And all of the storyline’s twists and turns will be random, affording guests the chance to ride the attraction multiple times. Whether it’s a battle with Darth Vader and his legion of stormtroopers or a plea from Princess Leia to help her save the Rebellion, guests will find themselves in the middle of the action – literally – in the 3-D, multi-sensory attraction. Entering the attraction queue area, Star Tours guests walk into a bustling spaceport. The famed Star Wars droid duo, C-3PO and R2-D2, greet them as the Starspeeder 1000 is prepped for service. Anthony Daniels, the voice of C-3PO and the only actor to appear in every theatrical chapter of the Star Wars Saga, reprises his role as the golden protocol droid. Daniels worked with Walt Disney Imagineering to record new dialogue for the attraction. Guests also are introduced to AC-38, a hotshot droid pilot known simply as “Ace,” and Aly San San (voiced by actress Allison Janney), the “spokesbot” for the spaceport. After winding through the spaceport, guests board the Starspeeder 1000 spacecraft and prepare for Star Tours Flight #1401. Through a series of mishaps, however, C-3PO finds himself in the pilot’s seat instead of Ace, and it’s up to him and R2-D2 to navigate their passengers through the galaxy. However, the tyrannical Empire is out to stop the Starspeeder at all costs. C-3PO and R2-D2 take the controls and try to outwit and outrun the Imperial forces and a galactic bounty hunter hired to pursue the spaceship and its passengers. Utilizing the 50+ random story combinations, the Starspeeder then embarks on a wild trip through the galaxy, visiting several planets made famous in the Star Wars films. Among the locations that might provide haven from the Empire’s pursuit are the icy planet of Hoth, the lush jungles of Kashyyyk and the underwater Gungan world of Naboo. And along the way guests may encounter Star Wars characters that offer to help (or hinder) their journey, including Yoda, Admiral Ackbar, Darth Vader and Boba Fett. “Skytroopers,” a legion of stormtroopers created just for the Star Tours attraction story, might even join in the chase. In fact, with multiple ways to experience each flight, guests will never know where the Force will take them. At Walt Disney World Resort, Star Tours opens May 20, 2011, the same day the annual Star Wars Weekends event begins at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park. Star Tours and Star Wars Weekends event activities are included in regular admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park. Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, has big hopes for Marvel now that they're part of the Walt Disney family, including having Marvel's stable of iconic characters become fixtures at Disney theme parks around the world. We've got an exclusive advance look at a new interview Feige did for the upcoming summer issue of Disney twenty-three magazine, the quarterly publication of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club. "It's the biggest dream of all. We get to tap into this spectacular team that is better than anyone else on the planet at bringing fantasy to life, not only on the big screen but in the real world," said Feige. He continued, "The notion of walking into a theme park and going into Asgard or the X-Mansion—Disney does this better than anyone. That is why I've gone to Disney parks multiple times every year for my whole life. It's that next step in fully immersive storytelling, whether it's a dark ride, a stunt show, or a thrill ride. The options are endless when it comes to how Imagineers can turn our characters, our adventures, and our films into amazing experiences." The next issue of Disney twenty-three magazine hits stands May 3. Source MOD EDIT: Added the source of the article.

Shanghai Disney Resort Discussion Thread

The blurry, fuzzy concept art of a Shanghai Disneyland, filled with fireworks, spotlights and a great big castle, paints a picture short on details and vague on specifics about the planned project in China. So why all the secrecy on Disney's part? Three reasons: * To prevent knockoff rides by rival Asian theme parks, which happened before Hong Kong Disneyland's 2005 opening. * To preserve creative flexibility for Disney's Imagineers during the ongoing "Blue Sky" development phase, when rides, shows and even entire lands appear or disappear. * To tread lightly with the Chinese government during the upcoming five-year engagement, which follows a delicate two-decade courtship. Photos: Concept art of Shanghai Disneyland theme park The basics are clear enough: The $4.4 billion Shanghai Disney resort is expected to open in late 2015 or early 2016 with a $3.7 billion Magic Kingdom-style theme park, two hotels and a Downtown Disney shopping center. Beyond that, the particulars quickly become hazy. So let's go over what we know, review what we've seen and ponder the many unknowns: The Known The Chinese government wants Shanghai Disneyland to be sharply different from the other five Magic Kingdom theme parks around the globe, with several all-new attractions related to Chinese culture and myth woven into and around classic Disney attractions. The park's Storybook Castle, the largest and tallest of all Disney's turreted icons, will offer interactive elements, along with spaces for entertainment, dining and performances. The newest Magic Kingdom will do away with the traditional Main Street USA entrance in favor of an 11-acre park suitable for parades, cultural celebrations and character meet-and-greets. The theme park will be approached by boats navigating a 100-acre lake that plays up the importance of water to the Chinese and emphasizes the themes of sustainability and nature. The first phase of the project, which the Chinese government estimates will eventually cost $15 billion upon completion, will occupy just over half of the 1,730-acre property. Shanghai officials say the new resort will one day contain three theme parks. (View photos of the undeveloped Shanghai Disney property.) Shanghai Disney would be smaller than its Florida counterpart, bigger than Disney's properties in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Anaheim and on par size-wise with the Paris resort. Upon opening, government officials expect Shanghai Disneyland to attract 7.3 million visitors annually. Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger says the new park may offer half-day and evening-only tickets. The Seen Over the last two decades, Disney has released several visual representations of the proposed park. As with any evolving project, plans change over time and will no doubt continue to do so during the upcoming development phase. The newest concept art shows an extra-large castle with a domed cupola, several steeply pitched roofs with widow walks and about a dozen spires, including a bulbous one that recalls Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl television tower. At night, the illuminated castle takes on an ominous look and feel that recalls the Haunted Mansion. The pagoda-dotted entry park features a cherry-blossom-lined parade route with a Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride on one side and a Fantasyland carousel on the other. A wider view of the park shows a smudgy, blurry mountain that may remind some of Expedition Everest, Matterhorn Bobsleds or a re-envisioned Pirates of the Caribbean ride dubbed "Splash Pirates." Concept art, released at a Disney investors' conference in February, shows Mickey Mouse's face in the middle of a hub-like entrance plaza with a skyrocketing fountain nearby. A walkway lined with giant mushrooms or flowers glows along the waterfront. A Shanghai Disneyland map that emerged in March shows a 200-foot-wide moat surrounding the perimeter of the park, recalling the layout of the Forbidden City. The map also indicates locations for four hotels, including one with a view of the park, although Disney has announced plans for two hotels – one deluxe and one "value." In July 2010, the Walt Disney Family Museum posted concept art on Twitter showing Shanghai Disneyland with a more traditional Magic Kingdom-style layout: Adventureland and Frontierland on the left, Tomorrowland on the right, Fantasyland behind the castle and a train track surrounding the perimeter of the park. A version of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, sitting on an island in the middle of a lake, stands out as a key departure from the typical park design. Back in 2006, Disney's annual report included an illustration for a "concept for a new Disney theme park" that many interpreted as a representation of Shanghai Disneyland. The image showed a central lake surrounded by a mermaid lagoon, an "Indiana Jones"-style temple, a roller coaster and a European village beneath a fairytale castle on a hill, according to Progress City. The Unknown For the last several years, insiders with insight into Disney's creative plans have reported on elements reportedly included in the Shanghai park: * Versions of Disney's well-known Space Mountain and It's a Small World rides, as well as a Tomorrowland-themed land, would be included in the Shanghai park, according to the New York Times. * The extravagantly designed Adventureland and Frontierland areas of the park will have a lush Tokyo DisneySea look while the rest of the Shanghai park will have an international EPCOT-style feel, according to Blue Sky Disney. * Characters from newer Disney and Pixar films will populate the park, according to Jim Hill Media: "Woody, Jessie and Bullseye will ride herd on Frontierland while Shanghai Disneyland's Autopia will serve as the centerpiece of a brand-new 'Cars'-themed part of this park. I'm told that Captain Jack Sparrow will stagger around a Pirates-centric version of Adventureland while Rapunzel & her tower will ... well, tower over Fantasyland." But as anybody who has followed Disney knows, the "Blue Sky" creative phase is an ever changing process filled with varied and vested interests. As a result, curious bystanders are often left asking the same questions as the knowledgeable decision-makers: * Will Shanghai Disneyland include classic attractions such as the Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise and Splash Mountain? * Will any long-rumored but perpetually-shelved E-Ticket attractions surface in Shanghai? * Will Marvel characters finally make their Disney theme park debut in Shanghai? * Will Disney introduce any Chinese mythological stories besides its roster of European fairy tales? * Will princesses, pixies, pirates and Pixar properties push older Disney characters to the sidelines? So I've lived in California for some 20 years and have been to every park/zoo in the state with the exception of the SD Zoo & Safari Park and Legoland (Doing that in a couple weeks). Didn't feel like taking my DSLR and all of the lenses that go with it so you'll have to deal with the average quality of my Canon SD630 "point and shoot." Sorry in advance as this report is image heavy. This park is well worth the $40 admission in my opinion. Beautifully landscaped! Safari Carousel This thing is odd looking..... So many choices........ This clearly must be the entrance.... Time for the safari!! Safari lasts about 25-30 minutes. I would highly advise taking the tour once in the morning and again in late afternoon as the animals are A LOT more active in the late afternoon. Each safari guide puts their own spin on the tour so that's another reason to do it more than once. The guides are VERY informative and add jokes in here and there to keep the passengers from getting bored. Only waited about 20 minutes for the Safari Tram. While in line I talked to a family that visited the park last summer and said they waited over an hour for the tram so with that being said, I considered myself lucky. Riding in style! Reminds me of a Palm Springs Golf Resort I LOVE Cheetahs Digital zooms always look so lovely....... For $90/person you can take the Caravan Safari which gets you up close and personal with some of the animals and you can even feed a Giraffe. Definitely worth the $$ in my opinion if you have little ones. Didn't do this but a lot of people saw the value in it as it had a line to experience it. $70/person The animal keepers were having a tough time trying to get this little guy to eat... Gorillas Monitor Baby Cheetah that was born in Nov. [/img] African Serval. Yes, it's in the cat family. Golden Eagle named Tanka Gorgeous Bird. Golden eagles have been clocked at 200mph in a hunting dive! Solar oven that's capable of reaching temperatures of 400 degrees F Thanks for enduring this report.

HaHa I'd never give up coasters and yea I believe it's a club in the UK.

You're correct G-Scale is very impressive when done with a unique layout other than an oval. I feel your pain though.......I have 8 locomotives at about $200 each just sitting around in boxes That not even mentioning the 22+ freight cars I have sitting around as well. Oh well when I buy a house I hope to have a garden railway similar to the one in the video below.
-
That's my problem as well. I have A LOT of HO scale track in my garage (I'm talking boxes upon boxes) along with 30+ cars and locomotives. I just don't have the room to set it up in a layout cause I live in a condominium.

This is the exact reason I'm cringing thinking about how long the line for GL will be this summer...... Scream I always found odd because they'll have 1 train on a busy spring break weekend and have 3 trains running on a Sunday in February..... The Goliath crew is the only crew in the park the consistently is pumping out trains like crazy. Goliath is also the only ride that runs 3 trains most consistently all summer.
