Another great rain experience was at Hersheypark in 2004. On our way to the park, we caught a radio broadcast about Hurricane Bonnie hitting the shores. Surely, it couldn't come up to PA that day, right? Well, we were in line for Storm Runner and it had broken down for like the hundredth time (That ride was a lemon back in the day). About 20 minutes later, the rain came. It was so heavy, you couldn't see a foot in front of you. We ran to the nearby Subway and tried to wait it out. After an hour and a slightly flooded park later, we got the hell out of there. It poured tremendously the entire drive home.

Too much force or Not Enough?

I'd prefer a lack of forces over something extremely intense. I really enjoy some of the rides that are criticized for not having enough forces. -

This reminds me of the Power Plant complex in Baltimore. This could be really amazing if they do it right. -

Weird Coaster Facts
GwaziBSRider1 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
When Kennywood commissioned Racer from John Miller, the surveying was done incorrectly. It was originally supposed to follow the terrain in a similar way as the Jack Rabbit. The incorrect surveying caused it to be almost twice as expensive as originally planned. -

I think it looks better with its real paint scheme. That pink in the renderings was absolutely HIDEOUS. -
I don't 'get' TTD or Kingda Ka
GwaziBSRider1 replied to etr102's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I like both of them, but I'm certainly not going to put either anywhere near the top of my list. I didn't use to like TTD at all, but it eventually grew on me. -

Weird Coaster Facts
GwaziBSRider1 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've heard that the old Steel Phantom at Kennywood had two inspirations: Shockwave at SFGAm and a dream. Henry Henninger (then park President) always loved the menacing look of Shockwave's first drop and wanted to recreate it on a new steel coaster at Kennywood. He was also said to have a dream of a large steel coaster diving through the Thunderbolt. He and Ron Toomer put the design on paper and the rest is history. Another interesting fact regarding this ride is about the Phantom's Revenge. When the remodel was announced, they originally designed a "double dip" going up the second hill as a nod to the Jack Rabbit. They changed the design (can't remember why) and moved it to its current location. -

I would love to see a new dark ride at CP. Something better than Boo Blasters though. -
MontaƱa Rusa at La Feria Chapultepec, but only during the first few rides of the day. Watching the maintenance workers having to push the train to the lift hill can be pretty funny.

Weird Coaster Facts
GwaziBSRider1 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thunderbolt at Kennywood was originally built with a "speed bump" on the inside turn next to the queue entrance. It was considered too intense for riders at the time and was removed the next year (1969). The ride also killed a high school student on its debut season and the reasoning was because he was a single rider. You need a partner to ride to this very day.
