Kolmården Discussion Thread

Hmmm... Travel time to airport - 15 minutes Flight time to Stockholm - 1 hour 20 minutes Travel time from Stockholm - 2 hours (either by car or train) Add some transit time in airports and such and it's probably about a 5-6 hour travel to get to Kolmården. I consider that highly acceptable to be able to ride what looks to be an amazing RMC creation! -
Whats The Weather Like Where You Live?
viking86 replied to RtherBOnACoaster's topic in Random, Random, Random
Just came home from a quick business trip to the Netherlands. I left clear, blue skies and was welcomed home with a rather rough landing in windy conditions and pouring rain at a 45 degree angle. Edit: Just read that we might beat the 1967 record for amount of rain in our city this year. Oh joy.... -

^^Don't think I've seen that video before. It was really awesome, really manages to capture the amount of FUN you can have at an amusement park. -

Phantasialand is not the only one who can do rock theming... Looking forward to see the ride coming along. -

I never noticed the fake wood on the footer before now, that looks incredible! I keep being amazed by the level of detail put into this project. I will definitely have to try to get my ass down to Germany next year. -
What Social Media do you use the most?
viking86 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1) Facebook. Use it on a daily basis, mainly for connecting with friends. I occasionally like/share TPR content if it's about a ride I've been/park I've been to or going to in near future. 2) Youtube. Use it on a daily basis. Mainly just watching, rarely use likes. Occasionally post own content. 3) Twitter. Don't use it, but I watch what TPR posts. -

Love these short videos! Structure is starting to look good now. It will be very exciting once track starts being placed. REALLY excited to go there next year! Though I do wonder what wooden rollercoaster they have built in Norway during the last five years. I know Thundercoaster was built by people from the British Islands, but that was in 2001... -
Evacuating a flying coaster.
viking86 replied to Physical's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've always wondered how an evac would go on Tatsu, seems like it'd be extremely cumbersome All flying coasters have an evac platform running on rails on the lift, it doesn't matter what the terrain under the ride looks like. You can see it on Tatsu in this picture. http://rcdb.com/3305.htm#p=16178 -
El Toro - reprofile the stretch between the turnaround and the turn before the RT hill, to provide more ejector airtime. Storm Runner - after the flying-horse-snake-laser-dive thing, make the ride go into a sustained ejector air hill followed by a left-hand helix and another pop of air as it rises into the brakerun. And find a way to still keep some of the awesome twists. Kumba - make it a listed building to ensure it cannot be touched other than for regular maintenance.

That whole area looks great in the concept art. I like that they're also adding theming to the existing wild mouse coaster. -
Another great report! I agree Animal Kingdom is a stunningly beautiful park, and once Avatarland opens it will also have a decent selection of rides. At the moment that department is lacking a little. I also enjoyed Festival of the Lion King during my trip last year. It's not a show you go to see multiple times, but watching it once is definitely a lot of fun.

The Airplane Model project

That train adds so much life to the model. Looks great, even though it's still work in progress. -

This picture really shows what an awesome job theme parks do to make you feel seperated from the outside world. You feel like you're in a different world, with no thought to the fact that the "real world" is just behind a wall. -
Great pictures, thanks for sharing! SeaWorld looks fantastic with all the lights and decorations. I'm a bit curious about the Polar Express layover for Wild Arctic. I like simulator rides (for example I LOVE Star Tours), but I absolutely hated Wild Arctic, and couldn't wait for the ride to be over. It just made me more dizzy than I've ever been on one of these rides. How does the Polar Express layover compare to the original ride experience?

^It's a standard phrase to end a fairy tale. The second line basically translates to "now the fairy tale is over". -
