Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
Midgetman82 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
EDIT: lol no thanks, Cedar Fair can keep it. I had already settled and convinced myself it's going to be Firehawk, and had those thoughts reaffirmed with so many plausible reasons by others on why it would be the best contender for leaving the park. But as mikeykaise pointed out the hashtag #ItsBigItsGone, I started realizing that Firehark isn't that big... Vortex, on the other hand... -
Ed Hart has said before that he doesn't like launched coasters because they're expensive to run and have reliability issues. Firehawk is apparently both of those things. Hard to see him making this move. I don't think you're thinking of the right roller coaster, and that the coaster you're thinking of is not going anywhere anyways since it'll be open for Winterfest this year. In terms of reliability and expense, you're probably right though. That ride's horribly inefficient (and loud)

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
Midgetman82 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can't quite remember it being cold enough up at Holiday World in October for it to warrant not opening certain rides. Closest thing to it was having been to an early morning ERT session where it was cold enough for Thunderbird to have a rollback, but then they just reset it and launched it again and it ran fine for the rest of the day. Personally, I don't think you should worry. -

I eventually ruled out the "backwards Racer" idea since at this year's Coasterstock event during Q&A, they said Racer was never really designed to be running backwards in the first place. Between 19:50 - 20:40 mark in this video: -

What? Are they replacing the mechanism with something different, or just fixing them up? Scroll to the bottom, hit the button marked "Unsubscribe topic." If you pop back in, it might re-subscribe you, and you'll have to do this process again. -

3 mile antique cars ride sounds sooo much more interesting, though! I'm cool with this, though I wish it was ready in time for this year's WinterFest. Would make for an especially nice "ride through the lights" attraction then. I am kind of surprised there's a company that's still making these attractions. -
The crowds in KK usually don't change during fair times. Just keep in mind you'll be paying for fair admission on top of park admission since they're basically connected, but KK usually lowers its entry price during these times to make up for that. Fair admission/parking is discounted for now ($12) if you go through the website now until Wednesday, after which it'll be $18: https://kystatefair.org/tickets This also includes discounted unlimited ride wristbands for the fair rides if you decide to stick around in the fair as well.

I'd see hot and/or muggy days pull pretty hefty or near-full lines on it. It's been open pretty consistently this summer (or at least on days I've gone), though I noticed the entire back area of the park is now seeing purposefully delayed opening due to crowds not reaching those areas early enough in the day. I do agree that the back corner area could use more spice to liven it up and entice people to go back there and stay back there longer. Storm Chaser has a really good draw, but not the biggest of all the roller coasters since it's in its own area kind-of alone.

Coming back to the issue with getting people to ride rides, I've found a way to get a small boost of ridership (or visitation to any attraction/shop) is to set signs out and select what they're advertising. It might not be a significant boost, but it's helped with some rides I've had that had virtually no ridership. Edit: Setting out multiple seems to boost its popularity. The more signs set to advertise the thing, the better.

Woodstock Express (kiddie wooden coaster) is fair game to anyone, and is actually a fairly nice little wooden coaster. Flying Ace Aerial Chase (family invert) is alright. Might be a little jerky, but not on the same roughness level as a coaster like Vortex. For flats, I can second Drop Tower and maybe Windseeker if you like those, but also Delirium if the line isn't too lengthy. -

The air conditioning inside is a great plus, as well. -

Both with 100% queue scenery rating and 500-530 Prestige rating... I certainly wish I could properly help, but it boggles my mind just as much as you. I think Planet Coaster has a complex algorithm that awards players with suuuper intricate theming not only above and around the queue line, but around the entire ride. If people get dumped out to an area with lots of seating, some shops and bathrooms, and decent theming, I think more guests will be more prone to hanging out around that ride more and thus wait longer to ride... but that's just light unconfirmed observations on my end. I'm not an expert, I'm trying to figure this stuff out too. Minimal theming work, picks up and dumps guests off main pathway that lead to other key rides. Ride sits in its own dead-end area with shops and bathroom and seating. Covered queue with some minor intricate details.

Daytona Beach roller coaster derails
Midgetman82 replied to B&MIntaminGCI's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^That is some people's literal nightmare involving roller coasters right there... This won't help the industry very much. ^^The incident could open up a new can of worms involving the actual condition of the coaster leading up to this derailment. So sad and frightening to hear of this, and hope everyone involved recovers well. -
Steel Vengeance - It was really fun... that's about all I can make of this coaster so far. Millennium Force - There's still something to appreciate about a 300ft coaster that does 90+ mph, and doesn't have to throw you around in every single direction to still be awesome. Top Thrill Dragster - Speeeeeeeeeeed Maverick - First time trying it with the new vest restraints, and it sure did improve it! GateKeeper - I don't care what anybody else says about this coaster, I think it's very fun! Magnum XL 200 - It's so unsuspecting from the station how intense it actually is. Silly fun airtime on those bunny hills! Valravn - I didn't expect the slight airtime it had. Not my favorite dive coaster, but pretty cool layout. Wicked Twister - got them butterflies in my tummy on those spikes. Raptor - Sad how this coaster is overshadowed by so many other larger rides. Still nice, though. Blue Streak - What a pleasant little wooden coaster! Gemini - Smoother than a lot of other more modern steelies. Rougarou - Better than Mantis, but the head banging in the second-half was a surprise. Corkscrew - It didn't kill us, so that's good.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
Midgetman82 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Case in point: This past Monday Valravn was a 75 minute wait. FL+ got me TWO literal walk-on's. I'm not here to push for folks to get it for both days (that can be a tough $196 choice to make), but I had originally went in thinking I'd only need it Monday but got it for Sunday too after arriving and assessing what I wanted and could afford. It's made doing as many rides as I wanted in the park sooooo manageable. SV waits were 2 hours on a Monday as well?? I'm going this Sunday and Monday and got only FL+ for Sunday, was hoping Monday would be manageable. It was more like 1 1/2 hour for most of the day, and dropped to 1 hour by the evening. Do it first thing right at rope-drop for Early Access and you might manage a 30-ish minute wait (potentially less if you power-walk). -

2 hour waits on Sunday and Monday gave for 25-ish minute waits for SV in FL+. Despite the unfavorable dent it put in my wallet, I will say it was absolutely worth the money for the short time we were there. -

Very close to making the trek and seeing lots of rain in the forecast during our visit. That won't stop me from riding, tho I've been weary about any sudden storms wanting to approach. regardless, I'm stoked! -
I've heard from one of the previous streams that they said they had always wanted variable height drop towers, but with how everything was designed it would have been impossible to pull off seamlessly. As far as I've seen, there hasn't been much since the Studios Pack. They have been focusing a lot on the Jurassic World game lately.

^ A few new ones from this year, with the help of the free FunPix from this year's Coasterstock at Kings Island. TFW the previous time you rode this was when it was called Beastie (2002 maybe). I'm an adult, I swear... A photo representation on my feelings on Kentucky Kingdom's un-cropped higher clarity onride photos. Trying to be slick, but that airtime always get's ya.
