According to Long Island.com, that's what's going to happen... http://www.longisland.com/news/06-25-14/adventureland-new-spinning-coaster.html Adventureland, one of Long Island’s most popular amusement parks, announced today that it will be taking down its popular Hurricane Coaster at the end of the 2014 season. Standing at 50 feet tall and reaching speeds of 35 mph, the Hurricane has been a favorite attraction at the park since it was first built in 1991. Two separate trains—one red, one yellow—can travel the 1430-foot steel track in about 50 seconds. After the Hurricane makes its last run later this fall, the park will take approximately one month to dismantle the roller coaster before beginning construction on its successor. According to Adventureland, the new ride will be the tallest and fastest it has ever built. The new coaster will retain the Hurricane’s two-train setup, and will also add a new dimension to the ride as the yellow and green cars will be able to rotate, making it Long Island’s only spinning roller coaster. Adventureland’s new coaster will take about two months to construct, but will be built in time to make its debut during the spring season. Children as small as 42” will be allowed to ride when the roller coaster opens. A name has not yet been chosen for the new ride, however, Long Islanders can enter their suggestions through the Adventureland Coaster Naming Contest by clicking here. The winner of the contest will be given a 3-year season pass. [source: Adventureland] Pictured Above: Rendering of the New Coaster via Adventureland on Facebook. Pictured Below: Images of the Hurricane Coaster. It's a shame....I really liked the Hurricane. It was a very short ride, but God was it intense.....I've said this many times before, Hurricane may have been an SDC, but it had the heart of a Schwarzkopf. This new spinning coaster might be fun though, I've never been on a spinning coaster that wasn't a wild mouse before, so if I go. It'll be a first for me.

From their Facebook..... Hello Everyone! Things are progressing well with phase 3. In addition to the existing controls and functionality seen in the videos, we are adding an additional quick start interface for casual designers. Now Theme Park Studio will have the best of both worlds, custom track curvature for the advanced users, and a simple point and click panel for the casual coaster builder. This is in addition to the custom train designer already built for phase 3. As mentioned in the last newsletter, a new feature has been added to Theme Park Studio. As requested from the community, we are excited to announce Steam Workshop has now been integrated. You can now browse through libraries of Parks, Rides, Custom Scenery, and Environments built by the community, without ever leaving the program. There is also a new 'Publish' feature, for uploading your creations directly from Theme Park Studio. We also enabled the 'Enter Park' button. Even though walkthroughs are still a work in progress, it adds a new dimension taking virtual tours of community built parks. With Steam Workshop, casual players can now simply browse through libraries of parks and custom content, and with a couple clicks, become immersed in a virtual theme park world! Finally, our Oculus Rift Dev Kit 2 will be arriving in the near future, and that will take the virtual park experience to a whole new level. Very exciting updates lie ahead, and we look forward to continuing in the Early Access program with all our backers. Thank you for your continued support! Theme Park Studio Team This is the news that I have been dying to hear from Theme Park Studio. Easy coaster building for those who have great ideas for theme parks yet aren't as technically apt to do any major CGI work.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
fraroc replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't really remember if there were that many GPisms used on my first trip to Busch Gardens WIlliamsburg. I think maybe there was one "Apollo's Chariot is the tallest roller coaster in the world!" and a "Someone fell out of Alpengeist and died" However, I was shocked to find a 10 year old kid that knew A LOT about coasters. He actually went up to me near Griffon and said to me "Excuse me, but did you know that this is a B&M roller coaster? So is Apollo's Chariot and Alpengeist! Loch Ness Monster is an Arrow, though." I was impressed, this little kid did his research! The ONLY thing he got wrong was that he thought that Verbolten was an Intamin coaster. I, of course said it was a Zierier. The kid goes "ZIERIER!? I thought they only made lame kiddie coasters!" -

I have to say, I really dig the lay out of Flug der Damonen. The somewhat slow pace would make for some killer hang-time, especially on the inclined Norwegian loop. -
It looks like Flashback and Texas Tornado had a baby.

Mean Streak. What to do with it?
fraroc replied to CPSFMMCW's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I really hope RMC does something with it. I don't care if they give it Topper Track or make it a steel coaster, just make the backseat not as freakin' TORTUROUS. -
In that case, Astro World was Six Flags' "Dorney Park" when it comes to being a dump place for old rides. Sadly, that's exactly what Dorney has become. The last three major rides to open were from other Cedar Fair parks. Possessed was from Geauga Lake, Demon Drop was from Cedar Point, and Stinger was from California's Great America. It would really break my heart if Dorney is the next AstroWorld, it's my home park and I have so many memories attached to that place

Busch definitely could have transformed it into a more family-friendly park. I went to BGW for the first time last week, and I couldn't believe to stark difference in the clientele of both BGW and KD. Busch was mostly families and kids and KD was predominately teens and young adults. While Cedar Fair parks are family-friendly, they don't really pander 100% to them like Busch or Hershey does.

B&M vs Intamin
fraroc replied to alpengeistdude321's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If roller coasters were horses, then B&Ms would be like a reliable old workhorse, like a Clydesdale or a Shire Horse. Physically imposing and intimidating, but easy-going and gentle. Intamins on the other hand are like wild, untamed Arabian horses. Spirited, energetic, graceful, and seemingly dangerous. God that was schmaltzy, but it's accurate. -

I love rough coasters too, but not excessively rough and poorly built. Arrows and Vekoma mega loopers at least were well-built rides. -
Technically AstroWorld died first, so Geauga got AstroWorlded.... But the more I look at this, both scenarios are pretty different. Six Flags AstroWorld's demise was so sudden, it was like one day BAM! "Six Flags Confirms Closure of Six Flags Astro World" With Geauga Lake, the park was dying a slow death. I really knew it was coming, right when Geauga started selling off their major steel roller coasters to other parks. Parks, especially Cedar Fair parks normally don't do that if they're financially sound, so I knew something was up.

The park in of itself looks really good, but two things are bothering me sorta. A. Shouldn't it be just plain Town Lake by now? Paramount Parks was bought out by Cedar Fair. B. There isn't anything wrong with your coasters and they look great, but...I kind of wish that you had a better computer so you could put the graphics up all the way. -
It's an undeniable tragedy what happened to the park, but this is a question I want to ask TPR. Do you believe that Cedar Fair, Busch, or any other amusement park corporation could have saved Astro World? Part of me says "Yes, Cedar Fair could have saved SFAW" and another part of me says "No" because of what happened two years later with Geauga Lake.

New Triple Corkscrew Coaster.

Judging from Anaconda at KD, the corkscrews are actually the most fun and comfortable part of the ride. In fact, everything except for that extremely painful weird helix is okay. -

I sort of wonder what would happen if Cedar Fair were to take over Rye Playland and operate it like Gilroy Gardens? -

The Arrow sort of reminds me of Loch Ness Monster in a way more than Dragon Mountain. -

Your roller coasters are and have always been, designed very, very well. However, I feel that parks like these need some custom supports on the coasters and some buildings.
