Photo TR: City of Fun. Amsterdam Fair
vuurvogel replied to vuurvogel's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Time for another update. On the one free day I got this week my brother and I decided to go to Amsterdam. It was rainy in the morning but got better in the afternoon. Reason to go to Amsterdam was City of Fun. This is an experimental fair where you pay one admission price and the rides are free to go on. The organizers got some large rides out of Germany. My reason to visit was Hollenblitz and Wildwasser 3. And for only 15 euro admission it was a bargain. Not much of a growth that day though, a walk on on every ride and most of the time we were the only ones in a ride. Besides these two large rides there was Deamonium, one of the largest traveling ghost trains. It looked great on the outside, but was really lame inside. The event tower was also there, a nine stories tall traveling tower with lots of unrelated stuff inside. Not really worth it. There where some typical fair rides which we did, but only once and a fun house we did multiple times because it was a nice experience. An empty fun house just for you. A totally great experience was Tal der Koningen, this walk through haunt was really good and made me jump sometimes. Even without live actors, brilliant. Wildwasser 3 was fun. Never would have imagined a water ride that big to be traveling. and hollenblitz... Just in awe for that ride. It is fast, it is long it had great special effects, lasers, lights, christmas trees and fire. And the power the coaster gets from the lift hills...wow. On to the pictures calm day at the fair Not a really big Fair here you can see almost everything pictures where taken from atop this ride This one looks great but is realy lame I got me and my brother into the topscan. The operater thought it to be funny to run it for over 7 minutes. I do not think I can convince my brother to ride this machines again. One of the reasons of visiting this insanly big traveling log flume wet beaver! brilliant-non-live-actor-walk-through-haunt the other reason of visiting. Great, a must do traveling coaster look at the size of it. It is not Olympia, but I don't think you can compare them -
I had to work today, my boss thought the rapture was no excuse not to come to work. We did count down to the moment it should happen, we even had snacks to watch the show. But well, it is tomorrow now and I did miss the whole event.

Great Report on the Lego's, I especially liked the covering of the aquarium. You never get to see to many pics of that. And no worries on the star wars fans (me included), it is like TPR, you need to have a sense of humor. Are you sure they are droids, and not Alice trying to find the Wizard. -

A real dilemma you got there. Searching for the unknown can only end in getting the unknown lost. -

This spring Hans (hansrubens) and I went to the Efteling for some really early fun. It was a beautiful day which created a lot of visitors. I have never seen the park this busy. Even rides like carnival festival, which usually are a walk on, had lines up to an hour. On to the pictures. The park is in a building frenzy... Here comes the new restaurant as part of the realm of fantasy... and this is the entrance to the new theatre SPRINGTIME! This park is CC aproved The Efteling is still one of the most beautifull parks in the world in my opinion Being artsy The light was magnificent to take pictures this day To bad, no train, the ride was down for maintainance today Joris, did run and well.. This is becoming my favorite part of the park, look at that view I'm gonna eat you little ..... train At this point I was really confused, somebody was in the wrong park -

Wow, the forces of nature are amazingly strong. Incredible footage, to keep your nerves and hold your cam steady while all things around you (and probably what he owns) is destroyed. -

Now up Burgers Zoo. This is not a classic zoo. Most of the main attractions are eco-displays. They have a mangrove, a large aquarium, but their main displays are a 2 acre desert. Made after the Sonora an Mojave desert. And a 3.5 acre jungle. And that in the middle of the Netherlands. The main buildings are all conected so you can spend the whole day indoors if you got bad weather. edit: I always mix up desert and dessert. That leads to awkward situations This is an overview of the desert. And even now you can not see the whole thing. These plants are the real thing The rocks are not though Coke anyone? I cannot give you an overview of the jungle, it is to big, with way to many trees. there even is a 40 feet waterfall inside. You can not only walk below it, but also hike up to the top. a size indication, my brother who usally accompanies me if visiting a zoo The wildlife runs loose, so you have to search. Especially for little ones like this This is an African 'kopje' to be found in the outdoor walking safari and now for cute little animals. Just because they are cute I want one, I want one, squee (sorry, other website) -

Thanks for posting this. I made them this week and they were great. Got my mom to put cookies in her cakes too. -
This cake is eaten, so it would be gross to bring a piece. I will think about something else, maybe also chocolaty to bring next week.

Coming from an area in the world where earthquakes don't do much damage it is weird to see the damage it can do in other parts of the world. The Netherlands is hit several times a year but the quakes are small and get softened by the loose soil. The biggest quake we had was in 1992. A 5.8 quake hit, epicenter about 100 miles from where I live. We felt nothing. Only the direct area of the quake reported damage. Shifted landscape, cracks in walls, falling rooftiles, but nothing major. Just because the soil here works as a natural safeguard against. So it really depends where you live and how you will deal with it. We are not being prepared for quakes but when it happens people who are affected shout against politici (but we just like that anyway) and against insurance companies for not paying, and life continues. We much more prepare for great floods and industrial accidents. My point is you never know what nature will throw at you and countries can prepare for what they think will be worst for them. (the dutch like to battle water) Just be prepared, don't panic, clean and go on. You will be amazed what people can live through. Personel losses are sad and it looks like a lot of people lost their lives but Japan as a country and a society will pick up the pieces and go on. Probably sooner then most people in the rest of the world. -

The current specifics A major earthquake has hit Northern Japan. The quake was offshore from Sendai and measured 8.9 on the Richter scale. After the quake which lasted several minutes Japan was hit by tsunami waves. Also in Tokyo the the quake was felt. What kind of damage there is will unfold in the next hours to days and there still is a change to aftershocks. Tsunami waves up to 30 feet reported. -

Well it is more then just a chocolate cake. I made it for my grandparents who are married for 55 years this weekend. On to the pics. You need to find these fruits (or use dead chickins if you can bear to kill 'm) It should look like this if your done with them Shake 'm and bake 'm and give them a tan It is chocolate butter if you want to know Just use lots of it Now your cake is ready for the next phase (It looks like a giant piece of .... now) Adding a layer of dark chocolate. Just to make it really chocolaty To finish, decorate, I used real eatable gold paint

Nice report, I live so close and never went to paris. Need to go there some day. The sign with the kid means no walkway or area not for walking only, so watch out other traffic can cross your path. It makes no sense but you find the same picture all over western europe so you get used to them. We have round once and the kid has no gender but furthermore it is the same. -

This is something you have to know in my home park. The wall of the old 50's elephant exhibit still exists as part of a playground near the new exhibit. This new elephant exhibit opened last year replacing the exhibit that replaced the one on the photo. the wall it is the wall to keep the visitors falling in the moat -
