How did you end up here???
vuurvogel replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I always satisfied my need to know more about coasters and themeparks by reading the dutch sites rides.nl and themepark.nl. and however their information is most of the time accurate, the discussions are pointless. so i never signed on, only read them. About two years ago I found themparkreview by clicking via the mentioned sites. Probably in a Robb post, because he sometimes posts on themepark (to sell his own site?). I found out themeparkreview was a site with not only rides and parks, but also with humor. So I hang around once in a while. The reason for signing up is because I will finish my education and wanted to go traveling and visit more parks. and what better then to go with a TPR-trip. And I find my staying on-site very enjoyable and can be found daily reading topics. -
Elissa's Random Thought of the Day!
vuurvogel replied to SharkTums's topic in Random, Random, Random
I get slower when it is cold. I have no problem with getting to work in spring, summer or fall. Actually I will be there half an hour early most of the time. But in the winter I always have problems getting there on time. Strangely enough it looks like I have more things to do in a shorter amount of time. Could be because the days have less daylight. But it is the same kind of thing that it looks like there are more people in cars when it rains then you see on bicycles or on foot in dry weather -
I Have been to Rammstein yesterday. 5 years after the last concert I could visit. And they are still AWESOME. Starting with new tricks. Lighting literally the whole stage on fire from side to side. Fireworks on and above the stage, flamethrowers lots of lighting effects. I have never seen a better show. with only 3 'calmer' songs Rammstein rocketed through their new and a few older songs. We we're quite early and stood way up front, 6th row or about cause we were thrown around a lot. Somebody already took the effort of putting some of the highlights in a row. so you can get an impression.

What Roller Coaster do you wish was in your backyard?

I would go for Black Mamba. Great coaster and lots of green and space to hold a decent barbeque. -

This looks much, much better than the EAS. Maybe I should convince my company to send me to Las Vegas next year. -
A normal size baby elephant will be around 100kg This one is very small, around 70kg. So you are right, normally baby elephants are a bit bigger.

Knowing this is a coaster forum I still had to share this with you. This morning (10 november 2009) at 4.30 GMT (5.30 local time) we welcomed a new member of our zoo. DierenPark Amersfoort, in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. She is adorable. The baby is very small (for an elephant) and has to step on her toes to get a drink. But pictures say more then words. UPDATE: HER NAME IS KINA

Nerdiest Coaster/Theme Park thing you've done.
vuurvogel replied to Jds03's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have a folder with all my coaster credits in alphabetical order. Every coaster gets a new page with a picture, stats and funny things to know. Strangely enough I keep them only for counting my credits. I never read them back or memorize any of the stats. but its pretty nerdy. -
a recipe for everywhere it becomes winter the next months. It does not look and sound very tasty but it really is. Green pea-soup. (My mothers) Green Pea-soup Ingredients 500gr split peas 1 pork steak a 200gr 2 large potato’s, cleaned, skinned and diced ¼ turnip-rooted celery, cleaned, skin carved off and diced 300 to 500gr. Assorted vegetables, carrot, leek, celery, cauliflower in the amount you like. All dissected into small pieces. (or use a bag of pre-cut soup vegetables from your local supermarket) Bouillon or broth for about 2 liters of soup (we use bouillon dices, but you can use what you want) Salt Pepper 1 large sausage (traditionally you will need a smoked sausage) (for vegetarians, get rid off the meat and use some more potato) Wash the split peas and bring to boil in 3 liters of water. Add the whole pork steak, potato dices, vegetables, turnip-rooted celery dices and the bouillon or broth. Add some salt and pepper. Boil for an hour. Then take out the pork steak, chop it up in small pieces and add to the soup again. Boil for another hour. !While boiling, keep stirring once in a while to prevent burning! Add the end add some salt and pepper to your liking. While boiling the soup let the sausage well in hot, but not boiling, water for half an hour. Cut up into small pieces and serve in the soup. You can serve bread with the soup or as we like, rye bread and bacon. You can even deep-freeze this soup and it will not affect the taste I know, it looks like puke. But the taste is great smoked sausage

I regret I could not make it to listen in. It was 3 o'clock in the morning here and I have to work today. So the first thing I did when waking up was to turn on my computer and started listening to the recorded chat. Great way to start my day. I had to laugh in about 2 minutes so you made my day. P.S. I love the tpr cookbook idea -
Photo TR: A trip to Germany und Amsterdam!
vuurvogel replied to Philrad71's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Great report on Amsterdam. I always like to see what foreigners think of our country. If you live to long in one plays you get a certain blindness, only an outsider can show you the nice touches of your surroundings. you should take fries very seriously. I am supervisor of a 'snackbar' and it takes practice and learning to make it really taste great. We use dutch fries. Made from dutch potato's and we call them fries. The flanders thing you will mostly found in tourist area's. We mostly use the word patat if we are talking about fries. Its from the belgian word for potato wich we call 'aardappel'. Always funny when language is so related but have slightly different meaning wich can really screw up communication. The popularity of a topping is changing with the seasons. In the summer you sell a lot of classic 'mayonnaise' (we use frites- or frietensaus with less fat in it and is a bit more sour than mayonnaise) at the moment with the weather becoming colder, we sell more specials. mayonnaise with curry (ketchup with sharp spices) and onions or mayonnaise with warm 'satesaus'(sauce made from peanuts) and onions. Maybe ideas to try out with your home made fries. -

It was great to walk around on the EAS. Lots of information and inspiring ideas. I was there only for one day to get some new Ideas for the zoo I work for. Found a great company that builds wooden playgrounds. But really good ones. Nice report to read. Looks you done a lot of partying. -

Best And Worst Things Ever
vuurvogel replied to Manny In England's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
worst: 12 minutes of topspin intense programm, due to castmembers riding while I was and ride ops thinking it would be funny. (never liked topspins since) best: Efteling with all rides open, sunny weather and no waiting!! -
Just want to say hello, My REAL name is Eelke-Bart, but since everyone calls me E-B I will respond to that as well. Or with my screen name. My home park is DierenPark Amersfoort, the netherlands. It is not a themepark with rollercoasters but a zoo. But since you can find me there for 4 to 5 days a week, I call it my home away from home. I am not interested in coasters alone but it is one of those things that make life from good to great.

Extreme Coaster Weather
vuurvogel replied to bhslhs's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have been to parks in dreadful weather, but my strangest and most painful experience was last year in europapark. Blue skies the whole day but when we decided to ride Silver Star it began to rain. The queuing line is inside a building in wich you can't see outside. When the coaster rolled out of the station we could feel the rain. We were already drenched when we got to the top off the lifthill. For some reason there was a lot of water coming down and that was the beginning of the most painful ride on a steel roller coaster. (wood would be Bandit, Movie Park Germany, its very painful in any weather) Rain hurts when your going 125 km/h (78 mph), when we got out the rain was almost over and the rest of the day the skies where blue again. -
